  1. The one I leave in my front room (WeTune) works fine with my EHB, not tried the D'addario.
  2. I hate novelty gifts, they get put to one side for an appropriate length of time so I don't look ungrateful then go straight to the charity shops. I'd much rather have things I can use or have been casually looking at. Consumables are a good gift idea as they'll always get used. Here's my list anyway: - If they llke doing their own setups then the fret sanding/polishing pads are a good idea, best to ask what they don't have or what they need first really. -Find what brand, model, length and gauge of strings they use (search for the packet when they restring!) and buy some of those. - Decent gigbags are always handy even if they're just for storage, you can count the amount of instruments and cases to see if they're needed. TGI Extreme are hard to beat and unless they exclusively use mini basses or weird/oversized shapes there's no danger of them not fitting. - In terms of general accessories clip on tuners are always handy and you can always do with one more to leave on an instrument or in a certain room, D'Addario ones are cheap (about £12) and good. - Those Joyo/Harley Benton mini battery powered amps might actually make a nice gift, the sort of thing most bassists wouldn't rush out and buy for themselves but would use regularly if one magically appeared on Christmas day.
  3. The D'addario XTPBB190GS strings (for the Taylor GS Mini) are what comes on the Ibanez parlour basses as stock.
  4. On the original designs you can take the latching assembly apart and realign the arms, did that to mine years ago when it went wonky and it's fine now. Tried to do the same to a mate's but it was riveted together instead of using screws.
  5. Another vote for the Hercules, got mine over 15 yrs ago IIRC and it's still my main stand. One of those bits of kit you'd just replace like for like if it got stolen/lost/damaged.
  6. It's always the ones you most expect.
  7. Spotted on FB https://www.facebook.com/groups/BassPlayersMarketUK/posts/a-lovely-precision-style-bass-replica-of-a-famous-guitar-brand-but-in-no-way-the/9110129235665290/
  8. Just spotted this in PMT's sale, a used MiJ '62 reissue with hard case for £799: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/pre-owned-fender-precision-bass-mij-62-reissue-with-hard-case-055246
  9. I don't think they can be bothered with UK customers any more, returns must be much more difficult/costly for them to process. Couple that with them being a box shifting volume seller means it might be less lucrative when inadequately packaged cheaper items end up damaged. When I returned a bass to them two years ago it was all wrapped up much faster than this. Would have been a better idea all round to ask you to make a video of the damage making sure the serial number was visible then just offer a decent chunk of money off.
  10. I like the way he's filled the slots with pocket fluff though, very resourceful.
  11. Might be an idea to put the bass inside one of those hanging dress covers in the wardrobe: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clothes-Lightweight-Friendly-Waterproof-Breathable/dp/B0CKXTJQYF/ref=asc_df_B0CKXTJQYF Most gigbags have a metal loop on the top so you can thread a coathanger (may need to take your own as hotel ones aren't always detachable) or an S hook through that.
  12. Belting deal that, just spotted the Eich in the classifieds a moment ago and though it was too cheap so came here to tell the OP!
  13. My first thought would be to try a preamp where the bass is boosting a little higher (40hz is still a terrible choice IMO) although the Markbass should be getting there already, assuming the licensed stuff is the same spec as the MB built preamps. What do the Aguilars sound like wired passive?
  14. I bloody hope not
  15. They quote that sort of weight for every bass, Ibanez SR, Cort Actions and Hofner violin basses are all around the 5kg mark apparently!
  16. A lot of the cheaper CAR basses seem to be a darker shade than his original veering towards burgundy red, even in early photos it looks a shade lighter. I guess you'd have to see how the bass looks in real life as CAR has that metallic sheen which changes with lighting. The Fender Player looks pretty close in some photos.
  17. One here: https://www.billybowmanmusic.co.uk/sx-p-bass-candy-apple-red-3572-p.asp Cheaper here: https://www.apollomusiconline.co.uk/sx-p-bass---candy-apple-red-2344-p.asp
  18. Looks like an updated Joyo MA10B but with bluetooth which is handy. Been after downsizing my front room rehearsal amp (a 250w head and 1x10 EA cab is overkill right?) for a while and did look at these but reports on the Joyo were a bit underwhelming, then again if it's usable and £33 then it's hard to complain.
  19. SX do one, about £200 notes.
  20. Fabric and epoxy might be an option, quite a few people getting good results That's an ace channel btw, you should all subscribe!
  21. A cheap "fix" for a dying Micro USB port is to get one of the magnetic cables with the corresponding adapter which permanently lives in there. I have a couple of old devices I use these with to keep them alive and save wear and tear on the port. Some are charge only and some have the data lines present.
  22. Tried the MW-1 again straight from my Fishman Platinum Stage DI set to pre eq, was much better but the P2 (or rather the AE knockoff which was within easy reach) was at its limit. Tried it again through my Soundcraft Notepad 5 and could get ok results, however directly comparing the wireless sound to wired it seems to compress a bit and lose some low end. The distortion is weird, doesn't sound like clipping but just an intermittent bit of background inteference fuzz on louder notes. Much more prominent right after changing channels and then settles down a bit, will try on the XR18 as I suspect the power supply on my Soundcraft may be on its way out as if I leave it plugged in (there's no power switch) when not in use it produces an annoying whine. Failing cap or something?
  23. It does "work" but there were issues with the signal when I tried it at home, like little dips in volume and momentary distortion which I attributed to the signal incompatibility. Had a similar experience when trying to use a wireless guitar dongle that didn't like active or high output basses. I've had worse monitoring at gigs tbh but it wasn't ideal! It works fine with a mic.
  24. That's what I found when I looked, the cheapest I found was £80. Might as well just get that Alto and let our singer carry on using the Lekato wireless for her mic.
  25. This one as well but its 2.4ghz: https://www.thomann.co.uk/the_t.bone_free2b.htm
