  1. We could make it about Guinness from a can, Guinness from a bottle, Guinness on draft and Guinness from a can and then 'excited' on that thing to make it froth a bit. The best Guinness is the one from the old pipes where the iron leached in and you got your nutrients. It was freshly made, but run through old pipes, does that make it roadworn....?!
  2. Don't forget to look on TB at basses for sale across the water. I got 1 of my G&Ls from there and including shipping and taxes it was still cheaper than if it was over here
  3. Precision type say G&L LB100 for a more vintage vibe, more modern go to SB-1, PJ go for an SB-2. If you like a tele body get a G&L ASAT, you get close to a P sound with the neck pick up. I have a solid and a semi hollow one, they are fantastic
  4. I think we get the picture on relic'd finishes now from the masses, but some manufacturers 'artificially' age the wood. Obviously this happens also in furniture etc. If the wood for the bass is 'aged' but the finish is not relic'd does this count as a relic'd bass and is this acceptable knowing that of course the tone of wood changes with time and you can achieve an 'older' tone earlier in a bass guitars journey
  5. Robot Lords of Tokyo Just a great name and the band is not half bad either
  6. Was a big fan of The Beyond https://youtu.be/ASBltGF1Yf4
  7. Kings X JJ Grey Joanne Shaw Taylor Cactus Alice in Chains
  8. I think he did that when I saw him.... Too good
  9. S'ok Lewis, I forgive you! This boredom thing can extend to lots of things, pickguards, tortie pickguards, tobacco sunburst etc. I saw Glenn Hughes the other day with his relic'd Nash bass, and it looked supreme on him. He has that because as well as liking them it will be close in appearance to what his original bass would look like which is too valuable to take on the road. Tom Hamilton and his metallic flake, suits him, on me I would look a tool. Some people can rock stickers on a bass. A poor job whether normal or relic finish is a poor job and no one will like, a good finish either way a lot of people will like. An old bass in pristine condition is a wonder to behold, by a worn old bass with stories to tell is also cool
  10. @LewisK1975 OI! I thought we said no negativity! Don't spoil my new present
  11. @kodiakblair - I hope it is no slouch, and agree it will look fresh as a daisy in a couple of decades and better than me! @Grangur - yep are completely correct! if is a good bi of wood it will have its mojo already, I think they givehe slab a bit of a vibration treatment to accelerate the settlling in process but point well made
  12. Hmmm, just about to receive a Sandberg MarloweDK. I think Sandberg does probably the best and most natural relic, and they age the wood a little, who knows how much difference it makes, but i tell you what from what i have heard and read its not an excuse for a crap bass, its a quality bass that happens to look like its done the business
  13. I love a beatbox Saw Rahzel live back in the day and it blew my mind, but theses kids are taking to another level
  14. +1 for Simon Bamber. I am using him at the moment to do a couple of my basses, always been a top notch guy to deal with. I can't report on the work yet, but his pedigree with working alongside Steve Treble and treblerock and Waghorn is pretty good
  15. FYI #12 neck would be a modern P #8 neck a slim jazz profile #7 fat old school P bass I have one of each of those.....
  16. Yep the G&L quality is obscene, I do have 3 of them, not the models I mentioned, but lovely basses.
  17. Take a look at Sandberg's lovely basses, and you don't need a relic, but they do it very well. Also G&L LB100 for a traditional P bass sound or an SB-1 for a more aggressive, both still passive and great value for money
  18. @bearfist - does the job really well thanks and i like it especially for the slightly mellower stuff, it definitely 'warms' things a little which i kinda like. Defo doing the job, cheers
  19. From what you have just said the Le Bass will do the job for you. If you wanted a Toe in to the water, get a regular b3k or VMT, second hand £150-200 and would be fairly easy to move on without much loss. I got mine second in that price bracket and my Le Bass just a shade under. If you want a cheap pre-amp with heft which can distort a bit check out the Hartke VXL, I got mine for about £30 and it can shift some sound
  20. It's a big investment but our drummer got an electric kit. I use a 25w combo amp on about vol 2/3 same with the guitarist and a 15w amp. We talk at just above normal vol. Rehearsal is in a single garage joined to a house and is good fun. We have a powered mixer to run the drums, but if you have a PA in this place that's easy. Best thing is the modules meaning you can select loads of drum sounds from tight snares to stadium rock
  21. @Bearfist glad you are liking the amp. I need to spend a heap more time with mine to get it right, and as someone who has helped you make your pedal board smaller by buying your gear, I say blow the roof off the O2!
  22. For my 2 pence worth I have a DG VMT, B7K and M900 amp, and I also have a Two Notes Le Bass. You cannot go wrong with any of them and they can all stack together. You will get a warmer fuller sound with the Two Notes, and a bit more clear fizz with DG as a vast generalisation, but they are all great bits of kit. Think you have to mix with what animals your guitars are playing as well as how your bass pick ups like the pedals. For these quality items there is no wrong answer, but varying degrees of right
  23. Just saw the man in Bristol. Amazing, great show especially considering what he has just gone through. Glen's voice was out this world Stone Broken, great show also, seem really cool guys, best of to them
  24. I wore some gloves for a while, they were fingerless, but I was getting cramps in my hands. Did they help, maybe they did with a little compression, could have been in the early days when I started, but hands are more used to it now so I don't really wear them
