1. I will have to agree but also disagree with Kev for what my ears heard. I have used MXR M87, DG SS, Cali76-G and Cali76 TX. MXR is good and does the job, there is never any question about it, and is more price friendly. I would stack it just below a premium brand one. DG I think does colour your tone very slightly, it does roll off the highs as Kev says but there is a slight shimmery warmth it adds to the signal, which is not a bad thing and is utterly pleasant if that is what you want. In its roll as a compressor, great job and looks v sexy. Onto Cali......... Yes it does something to your tone, but the magic voodoo hoodoo it does under the lid of the box I do not know, but what I know is it makes everything infinitely better. No doubt whatever bass you have will sound better and it adds a spice which increases presence in the mix. I used my mates TX and it's the absolute mutts, similarly if you get the TX-L and the Lundahl transformer it's another level. I opted for the Germanium transformer, partly because only 100 were made as it makes me feel special, but also I dial in a little bit of grit from it, and love the fact that the Germanium transformer does not sound the same every time, dependent on conditions, heat, how it's feeling, and it never sounds bad! Since getting it my rig has simplified, all dirt combinations etc. went. It's now a Two Notes LeBass, Cali76-G, MXR Bass chorus deluxe and a DG M900 amp (and I love effects!) I cannot comment on the compact pedals, but I am sure they won't have completely messed up what they do. I would say if you can afford it, go Cali, if you are patient you may get a second hand one, I did. Cheers
2. Good man, glad you are happy. Look out for a power supply second hand, depending on what pedals you have and the current draw, voltage etc. Having fully isolated units works better for them and your sound as there will be less noise Cheers
3. Cheers May have to empty and re stash my trolley dolly bag
4. @DiMarco that's not a half bad solution! Can I ask what size pedalboard you have to squeeze in there, as I think I have one lurking around at home somewhere. For the moment I have a Fusion DJ mixbag which stores the amp, and all cables et pretty easily, but is too snug for a pedalboard
5.
I'm 58 next month, so if you're setting me an objective, Do you mind if we make it a 3-legged race?
Without getting too personal, are we both racing on our own for this one, I heard on the sly your nickname is tripod...
6.
So your Scottish, Mixed Race and look like Pamela Anderson. Man, that's either terrific or very weird.......
Ha! I'd like to say more like The Rock in the new film but........... more a rotund stumpy Viv Anderson than Pamela Anderson with a hint of Rusty Lee thrown in there
7.
But I bet you looked cooler than him sprinting in a kilt!
It was like a slow motion MacBayWatch...
8.
But if the true origin of the genre, which I don't doubt, the BBC would be making a very shallow, program if they omitted that from the programme. That said, I've not seen this program but many things like this make me feel guilt for being white.
Don't feel guilty about this for being white, instead concentrate on awful dancing and being slow sprinters. I am mixed race (Scots and Caribbean) as I used to love the guaranteed sports day win, until someone who was fully black joined my school. Only time I ever cursed one half of my heritage when I stopped winning.....
9. Depends how loud you need to go and what kind of dispersion etc you need, but I play rock and the supertwin rules, my friend who is not a rock bassist but has a DG amp and a supertwin also raves about it for all the stimulant he does. Best thing to do is to chat to the guys at BArefaced, they'll ask you lots of stuff about your set up, goals, sound, venues etc. Then give you an answer
10. I had a long look at it, and also at whatever videos are out there. Very close to pulling the trigger, by when I combine my Two Notes LeBass, Cali 76G and the engine in the M900 I am pretty close to a brutal sound of needs be. I know it's a lot of hardware compared to one pedal, but the afore mentioned are not leaving the board (Cali practically needs a board of its own!)
11. I had a feeling Bearfist would be straight in there!
12. Sandberg California VS4 Thumping good bass, aged or Notmal finish depending on your flavour. They do pop up second hand from time to time, more often seems to be the VM4 which is a p pick up with a M humbucker at the bridge.
13. Agree with the points above. I had a TC Electronic 250-115, nice and powerful at home, shook walls etc. Took it to a gig where there were drums and 2 guitars and it struggled. Admittedly it was louder than it should have been, but even so you have to get above the drums. If you are being Mic'd up or a DI I taken you'll be fine, if not go separates. Having lugged it about to be fair it's prob more hassle than a lightweight class D amp and cab. Cheers
14. Agreed with Karl, it's a fine specimen and a great price to boot
15. Mate Get in touch with this guy https://www.facebook.com/groups/689090051102626/permalink/1495108990500724/?sale_post_id=1495108990500724
16. It's a cracking bass guys I just got one myself Look forward to the pics and GLWTS Ash
17. Oh and sprocket, it was in Sidmouth folk week that I saw them!!
18. I totally agree with you about the covering up not to be recognised and knew that was what you were hinting at, yes there are African references to the dancing style, immigrants at the time etc. But I like you did not want to get into that as well. What I will get into with however is enjoying ale, that is a good pastime
19. As we have established, I am black and have looked into the whole contentious thing, and as far as I am concerned, it's probably a bit of both, live and let live, I don't mind keeping up traditions as it connects us to the past and helps us remember history. So long as the traditions are not actually harmful, and any particularly horrific historical times are respectfully remembered then it's OK by me. So far as Morris dancing goes, they'll be nob 'eds, they'll be good people. Let's all have an ale, mead or cider and enjoy it for what it is which is a crazy, camp, pagan quirky past time
20. You have not seen my bad dad dance moves, made Ainsley Harriet on Strictly look like Bruno
21. @Cato you will like this then. I am black and was in a small town folk festival milling around, when I came across a group of fully blacked up Morris Dancers. Their abject shock at seeing a 'real' black face was priceless, they did a double take, crossed the road and scuttled away quite sheepishly. I was upset as in that area of little Britain I thought I would be the only 'coloured' in the village...... ;-) Still makes me laugh now
22. @Wolverinebass I don't think you are having a go at a great product, just expressing what would work for you and that's cool. I have the M900, would love to have the dUg amp (cost prohibitive at the moment) but I would disagree with what you said about the clean tone on both, I think the clean tone is really good and with the dUg amp there are very few situations where you would use the grit channel alone as it really rasps. Surprisingly to my ears with the M900 I only like one of the drive channels having owned both the VMT and b7k pedals, sonic could not see myself switching the type of dirt mid song. What I will say though (and I know you don't necessarily want more pedals!) is that in the next year Tech21 will release a dUg pre-amp pedal to satisfy those needs. So if you had the M900, intelli foot switch whichever version, and the dug pre amp it's almost the same number of switches as a midi and quite a few useable tones there, imagine pairing the dirty dUg circuit with the EQ section of the clean DG amp, as well as the other possibilities could be a winner.
23. Yes and no, my Levy strap is thick and i had to go without the washer. I just check it before i use it and tighten with my leather man
