  1. I can mostly play a few dozen Rush tunes on bass, but i can’t sing for toffee, play keys or anything else while playing bass. That’s some top playing.
  2. There are some contemporary prog examples of multiple time signatures in a song; listening to the feel really helps, e.g. 6 o’clock by Dream Theater where the drums change time but the guitars don’t, or Carve Away The Stone by Rush which has 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7/4 in. or 80s era King Crimson: especially the Discipline album.
  3. It’s the right face for metal!!
  4. It's probably cheaper to buy one out there and then donate it to the school for future use!! Less stressful too.
  5. OOh TRB in action. What sort of Jazz is it? *wonders if they're on Spotify*
  6. Ouch indeed. Get well soon. *waits impatiently for healing*
  7. Oh yes, and the rather lovely MB Combo. Welcome!
  8. No - it's not up to the reader/viewer to research whether they are right to be offended. if they find it offensive, it's offensive. anti-sexism cause? You mean common sense. How do you know how they came by the story? It's judging their intent - they could have been specifically asked the question by a journalist who knows they're liberal and wanted to see their reaction.
  9. I suspect you will prove Male privilege beyond doubt. So it's probably worth doing as an exercise in the complete obvious thing that we pretend doesn't exist.
  10. They insulted our collective intelligence with tired troll tactics.
  11. Total whataboutism. It’s perfectly possible to have concerns about more than one thing, although perhaps that’s too many for you...
  12. Well; you try getting the strings taut without one, it’s a right pain!
  13. Well don’t ask @dood; he’ll tell you to get a flip refinish!!
  14. Now that’s a challenge to the profanity filter!!!!
  15. Looks nice! How much was it btw?
  16. Crikey - mojo! Nice work there.
  17. Mastodon seem to have one sound now: loud with too many drum fills. Even the vocals are relentless.
  18. Gosh. Tasty praline!
  19. Bassics have a thread and a banner ad here; how hard can it be to get hold of one?
  20. Gene - absolutely. Their live album Rising for Sunset was fairly perfect: their studio albums lame by comparison. They peaked once and that's it. Anything by the shredders: Vai, Satch etc. although I do think they are brilliant musicians. Most U2 stuff - same as above. The Blaze albums from Iron Maiden. totally over-produced and anaemic-sounding.
  21. I like Muse - brilliant drumming, bass work and guitars - but I think Matt gets lost in the 'I am a polymath, I must add more keys and noise to this' - and it gets a bit like the last days of Queen - pompous for the sake of it. They do have some killer tracks though - you can't deny their technical craft, they just get a bit OTT with it. I suppose it's the split between making what they want and what the fans want - a similar problem Dream Theater have had.
  22. Hmm - the Astonishing was a bit meh. Like they were trying to be Yes or Rush of the 70s. I loved some parts of eponymous and Dramatic Turn of Events, but the last excellent release was Black Clouds (I got the 3 disc version with the covers and the instrumental versions). One consistency throughout DT is that any track written mostly by or featuring a lot of Portnoy's 'I'm a Metalhead' growl gets skipped most of the time.
  23. My first new DT album when I first came to know of them. A few annoy me now but most of that album is cracking.
  24. First Aid Kit - Stay Gold.
