1. These are the only RI's that got the tuner posts and the body curves dead right ..they are the most correct RI's ever made....lovely, glwts.
2.
Sorry are his talking about your bass that you just sold ? I didn't understand what exactly you meant, please explain. I bought mine from an online shop collector . By the way , mine also has the original hard case .
Yes Iam talking about my bass which I sold recently
3. Just sold my old one....thunderous sounding bass, very strong mid range. 9.5 lbs Bridge in wrong place (factory correct due to worn out jigs) Wonky router edge on lower neck pocket (factory correct due to worn out machinery) Fine grained Alder body. Never seen one like yours with that strong grain pattern..looks rather unusual.
4.
Yes. Even the time signature changes in that tune seem natural. Barry didn't want the beautiful young ladies on the Disco dance floor tripping over their hand bags.
Its a funny one all right. You've got a two note country bass line underneath flowing strings then that two note guitar trill on the third beat, brilliant!....its musical skill plus those little embellishments that make some music so great.
5.
It's really hard to find original Barry White tunes on 'Da Tube', that are not some Rapper and his 'beats' destroying the vibe. I didn't realise how much stuff he had written. He also produced, arranged and conducted on a lot of the MFSB material with his 'Love Unlimited' Orchestra. Some talented character, that's for sure.
Its all in the writing...just love the way the arrangement flows in the second tune. Rare to hear P soup on the hi hat so loud against flowing strings..fantastic arrangement, guy was very talented indeed.
6.
Had a quick search and am surprised this hasn't been posted already - bass intro, cowbell, horns, cracking arrangement, OK, slightly dubious quality vocals, but this was HUGE! (oops, sorry, forgot handclaps in my disco essentials listing)
Silly vocals..BUT... fantastic tune. Would love to hear it re-recorded with a sax or piano lead part...and to any young engineers reading this..THAT is how you record an ensemble...crisp and clear..brilliant!
7. Agree with the above post re current song writing. and to add. 0 or little understanding of key changes to add movement and dynamcis to a tune. Same old sounding chord progressions Melody lines that eerm arent at all melodic but which just seem to wander around the stave without any sense of originality or musical interest. Probably need a tin helmet now..but Ill argue those three points till the cows come home and cite in my defence any number of tunes from the 60's through to the early 90's which when listened to now seem unbeleivably interesting and listenable.

10. Slightly off topic but the red mist has descended. Parked up next to a town pub last week...nice sounding band playing so I thought...nice drummer so I thought etc...go inside....guys singing and playing tiered keyboards with a backing track, his mate is strumming a squire strat...I couldn't beleive it...drums sounded live as hell...BUT the punters were loving it....
11. Done only two live gigs in the past 10 yrs but here's a couple of observations. A local originals band would always struggle to pull in the punters until established, goes with the territory...bin there done that,. I honestly don't think I could stomach playing to a modern audience with them all either looking at there phones or holding them up videoing the band. Weird. And thirdly. I think we live in a new era.. where live entertainment is going to die and be non existent in 10-20 yrs time. I thank my lucky stars that my best gigging days were in the late 70's early 80's where I was out five nights a week doing originals, covers, holiday camps etc....feeling rather sad about it all really.
12. Love drummer tales. An old guy joined a mixed covers band I was in..played every tune four on the floor disco style...reggae, funk, rock, ballads...lol..it was bloomin hilarious!.....one day I kinda looked at him with one of those looks bass players dish out now and again...end of the song he turns around and says ..."I guess you guys dont like my style much"...well mate its like this, never saw him again.
13.
what's the age of your band? I'm afraid with very few exceptions bands tend to attract the same age group as themselves and older folk, generally, aren't interested in new music, I've said it before, but as rule of thumb, if you've not 'made it' by the time you're 30 it's very unlikely that you will. That's not to say you shouldn't make new music, but it'll be only for yourself and a few followers, my band are working on our next CD but I don't really expect to sell more than a few hundred.
This.
14. Drive everyone mad...alternatively tap ur two fingers everywhere, at the table, in the lounge, car..shower, heck even in bed if the other half hasnt already threatened you with a slow death already..it'll come.
15. Great if you want to deafen everyone within a 100 mile radius of the place!
16. Just had another read of this thread and its really got me thinking. I'm a pro-photographer trying desperately to retire ha..but the thing is I've never really considered myself a "photographer"..why? cause it was never my first love even though I earn my living from it. Music is where my head is but I could never make any money from it, yet it dominates every moment I'm not taking pictures etc.... I could pack the photography in tmrw easily.. but playing music.....Never!

18. At 16 I went from Philly soul direct to J Rotten and Co...it was a great and slightly peculiar yr!
19. And not forgetting the family.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukVhTzcW3Uc Now that I like very much indeed, but his solo stuff..not so sure. I've often wondered what a Jamerson solo would be like...is there any (record) of him doing one....would make a nice comparison to VW. Both exceptional musicians.
20. As above, make sure you play a few tunes before hand..it sounds great.
21. That's practicaly the Jamerson studio tone....live, incredible on all counts.
22. I've often pondered this too. But here's my take. I'm a mediocre amateur bass player who doesn't read very well plus I never got an educational 'degree'. But I can figure out how to play most things by ear quickly. Other half is a highly qualified bod with a PhD etc etc....but she cant even tap her fingers in time to a tune, let alone play an instrument..beleive me we've tried, which I think kinda bugs her a bit. So I suppose that makes me a musician...or does it...Ive no idea.
23. Ha, on 'Stuff Like That' even the string section were groovin....very cool. I thought the whole thing was brill..though Im not sure Richard Bonas voice was really up to it.
24.
Yep, I realised it wasn't the UK Proms. Just been watching some of the other shows. That Orchestra is great. So organic with the Disco tunes. Donna Summer
Superb stuff!
