  1. Yes, very sad, he will be missed. He was a terrific musician with a great feel. R.I.P This was posted on Facebook. John during his stint with the Morrissey Mullen Band.
  2. A 'Bird' tune that doesn't seem to be in the Charlie Parker Omnibook...
  3. This is very odd. I have just been watching something on YouTube with my oldest boy. I then come here, only to find Dad's opening 90 seconds, would fit that 'something' very nicely as an underscore (especially the Contra-bassoon). That something is called, "The Saga of Noggin the Nog - King of the Nogs".
  4. A great Freebie. Spitfire Audio Labs. It's a Sample playback VST. Download the Labs player and any of the free libraries that you fancy. https://www.spitfireaudio.com/labs/
  5. It's usually about this time, in a thread about British session Bassists of the past, who sometimes played with a pick, that Russ Stableford pops up, Chris.
  6. Yes, you are right. Those TV Orchestra gigs were steady earners back then. Actually, that particular Orchestra had a few of the regular musicians from the busy TV and Film session scene at the time. Agree about The Two Ronnies theme. Here is the full length version.
  7. ^^^ The tune started out life on Waterman's solo album before it was used on 'Minder'. Mo Foster played Bass on the Minder session. He has documented this many times, including talking about the Bass he used. A Kramer, I think. EDIT: Here is the Basschat interview 'Rich' did with Mo Foster back in 2012.
  8. Indeed, he was a great player. Dave played on lots of library/production stuff as well TV sessions back in the days of regular Light Entertainment Music. He comes into shot from around 01:25. Here he is with his Burns Bison...
  9. One of my sons also grabbed the other free stuff from NI. A good idea to grab that bundle (all with good upgrade paths). During the summer NI usually have 50% sales, often throwing in a £22 voucher to spend in the NI software store. Worth keeping your eyes for that as well. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-start/ Another company, 'Spitfire Audio', also have a great set of free libraries for their own free sample player. https://www.spitfireaudio.com/labs/
  10. No light stroking of the strings with WF, he really attacked the notes with confidence. Always sounded like fingers to me. I thought someone on Talkbass contacted him and he replied that he only played finger style? Or maybe, it was another player I'm thinking of...? Certainly a solid, fluid performance, from a player on top of his game at the time
  11. This.... Below is an example of set up. Although he is using Studio One, it applies to any DAW using Asio.
  12. Nice little Podcast/interview with Bassist Mike Watson. During the interview he talks about his ABBA sessions. The Podcast is about halfway down the page. https://thestrangebrew.co.uk/abba-mike-watson/

  13. I quite often follow Lee Sklar on Facebook. He is very funny at times and his Trump rants are legendary. Always loved that tune. I think it was Nathan East on the original recording.
  14. Works great. I'm using VST connect pro with another composer/arranger. We have a lot of midi info going back and forth as well (we both use Nuendo). But like you said, it can be used with just one person using the DAW and the musicians at the other end using VST connect performer. (Link below, it's free). https://www.steinberg.net/en/products/vst/vst_connect/vst_connect_performer.html It's defiantly worth checking this out with 'Erax Sound'. 👍
  15. Not a Kontakt Instrument, but a terrific, free VST Synth (Mac & Windows). A lot of great sounds!! https://surge-synthesizer.github.io
  16. Renaud Garcia Fons and Dorantes in concert (the San Javier Jazz Festival 2016).
  17. Another good, free DAW. Sonar by Cakewalk. Comes with plenty of Instruments and FX as well. http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR
  18. Lee Sklar posted a link of Victor doing a visual over one of his Coltrane transcriptions. It goes without saying that Victor was a groove monster, but good lord, he had some serious chops!! "Here I'm playing Coltrane's solo from Countdown. This is what I'm trying to teach at Berklee. Not the chops, but knowledge of music and how ALL music works on the instrument".
  19. ??? Where did you download it from... IKEA?
  20. Yeah, great stuff from Victor. I like this YouTube post... "best bit is when someone decides to become the human trumpet at 5:25". And Of course, it's Victor singing along.
  21. Swap all the notepaper for Ukuleles... And it could also be a George Formby appreciation conference, in 1960's Blackpool.
  22. We just watched Beverly Hills Cop. During one scene, my wife (being an ex pro dancer) jumped up and started dancing to the below track (without breaking her leg or any furniture). My two boys just sat there with their mouths open, then burst out laughing, in unison, loudly. It did make me laugh out loud as well....Happy times. 👍
