He is not just about the Blues Brothers. Lou Marini is, or was, one of the top arrangers in New York. He's a very versatile musician and arranger. LM's session resume and general CV is really quite a mixed bag. Great harmonising (plus some tight unison playing), terrific arranging, a decent bunch of players and some nice soloing. In the opinion of my ears, of course.

This popped up on YouTube a few days ago (free). Although it doesn't go back and cover the pioneers and greats from the early days, it's still a good documentary about film composers and the work they do.

Talking of Ray Pohlman, these two cues from the original 'Hawaii Five-O' sessions appeared on YouTube. (The main theme only a couple of weeks back). One of my boys stumbled on them while researching for a project he is working on about TV/Film composer/arranger/conductor, 'Morton Stevens'. There are a couple of photos of Ray Pohlman on it. Also, a photo of Carole Kaye, playing Guitar.

Have you looked into Arturia KeyStep Pro 37-key Controller & Sequencer ? It's in between full size and mini keys, it has Slim Keys with a Synth Action...Also it has both DIN and USB connections. It might be over-kill for your needs with all the functions available, and of course, I've no idea if it will work with you Mac. Arturia KeyStep Pro 37-key Controller & Sequencer I get the feeling you might have to look at a 25 note controller...far more options available.

Yes, the NI controllers are great. They work well with the Komplete Kontrol software.

I have an A25, but I just use it mainly for Mono lines and controlling the Komplete Kontrol software, along with recording CC#'s (the A25 doesn't have 5 pin din, by the way). Also, I use it for Drum and Percussion programming/parts - I just use the transpose buttons if I need more notes. My main controller is a Studiologic 88 (one of the older models - about 16 years old and I love it for Piano playing. It feels nice to play). That is a 5 pin din. I don't know why, but I feel more comfortable with 5 pin...maybe I'm just too old school still in my midi thinking. Yes, you are right, for some reason, three octave controllers are few and far between these days.

The NI S25 has been discontinued for quite a while.

Probably... There are various quotes knocking around about that session, so maybe there is a modicum of truth in there somewhere. Here is another one: "If I can remember this right, the story behind this one (from Carol Kaye) is that the drummer on the session was playing too far behind and kind of dopey. The producer asked her to play something really forward and 'up' to pep up the drummer, and that's what she did. She didn't think they'd keep the take on the track, let alone that it would become a minor hit, as she thought the line was too busy..."
