  1. Sounds like time for some fine grade paper on the neck and you’ll be away.
  2. +1 for a shim. Cheaper than new bridge pieces, a piece of cardboard will do it.
  3. High action on a fretless? Maybe because it’s a defretted . Every fretless I’ve ever had has been really low on action, as it should be as there’s no frets to get in the way.
  4. There’s no umlaut over the “o”. If the Ignition is made for Hofner (sorry my iPad doesn’t have one either) even in China I think they’d spell their name correctly.
  5. Keep the old one as back up or fit different strings, flats maybe?
  6. Another great choice, but then Jack never played a bad bass line. And he sang at the same time.
  7. All Jazz has flats, it’s what makes it a Jazz. Something to do with the odd tuning of brass instruments. 🎷
  8. So do I. It’s a bad way to damage the delicate bones in your hand. Do you want early onset arthritis? 🖐
  9. Oh yes, I’d forgotten that one, good choice.
  10. Listening to the radio the other day, they played a track in connection with the forthcoming bio-pic about Elton John. It was of course “Rocket Man” which I haven’t listened to in decades. I was knocked out by the excellent bass line which is a real feature of the song and it started me thinking ( always dangerous) about other songs that have long since passed from memory which have really good bass lines. Any suggestions?
  11. I started with a Fenton Weill. I don't have a picture of the original but this is a similar one from the net. I modded mine by removing the hideous red pickguard and putting a metal bridge on it. My first amp was some weird thing where one speaker faced forward and the other back. This was soon replaced by a Selmer Treble and Bass 50 and a Marshall 2 x 12 cabinet.
  12. On my Fishman piezo bridge the instruction was to make sure there is no silk winding around the string touching the bridge. I use La Bella flats which have no silk windings so I’m pretty sure the core wire would be fine. Whether or not it’s better may be for you to test.
  13. For £22k I’d like some pickups, hardware and a 5th string! Or maybe I’m just greedy.
  14. A few hours with some fine wet and dry and you could ha we a decent finish on that bass, unless the diy paint all peels off 😂💥
  15. Just noticed your posting and yes I have owned a vintage Gibson bass. A 1966 EB2D and frankly it was a dog. The pickups were totally unbalanced, the mud bucker practically blew the speaker so you had to play it with the boost button pushed in, it actually worked the opposite way round and cut the output. It didn’t sit well on a strap , had had a neck repair like many 335/EB2s, the heads seemed very pone to snapping, but it did look totally cool - I still love that semi style. By comparison my current Gibson is super light, despite being 5 string, sits well, has balanced pus with pull pots to instantly change the tone, a great bridge, and seems really well finished. Having thought I’d never buy another Gibson, I now really rate them.
  16. Well done @Dosi Y'Anarchy it takes a bit of guts to put yourself out there and that was informative. Does the bass not have a slice off the edge to stop it cutting into your arm? Surprisingly it does sound a lot different from my 2013 Gibson EB which has thumping great humbuckers on it. Your Tapped tone is similar to the the bridge pu.
  17. Or the Gold tone mini bass
  18. I can’t believe you found one of these that only weighe 81/2lb. When I had one with the 5 in line, it weighed nearer 11lb.
  19. You are absolutely right sir. I remember seeing one (Grabber I think) with an unlined fretless neck and a gorgeous green and black burst finish. It was way out of my price league back then, but wold have been a worthwhile investment now!
  20. I think it looks an improvement on the original, better shape pickguard and the pu placement has to be better.
  21. Don’t panic guys, they’re both in someone’s shopping cart so you don’t have to buy them.
  22. That’s been for sale on Used forever! I wonder if anyone ever takes anything off that site as some guitars appear to have been advertised there for literally years! I tried to contact another seller through the site but never got a response. Has anyone actually asked S71 for a price?
  23. As I live in a flat and have no where to do much work I think some of this is beyond my capabilities. I was thinking as an alternative how about spray painting the one i’ve got, maybe gold to look like an anodised guard. Very Duck Dunn?
