1. People have mentioned the DIY ethos, but the Pistols always signed to a major label and wore expensive clothes from Westwood and McLaren's shop. What was unprecedented (and still is) is that an un-signed band did a tour, created a 'scene' and and at each gig influenced people to go out and start their own bands, many of which had their own success.
2.
Like I said, it's probably completely trashed and unplayable!
if it's not good enough for Lemmy, it's not good enough for me.
3.
This is a muddle... none of the stuff seems to do what you want it to do... so you are fixing a fix. Sell it all and start again. Ampeg Portaflex.. PR amp and Portaflex cab..!!
+1 for the porta flex. Lightwight but still with that Ampeg tone.
4. ... you had never been in a band with them?
5. Take a chord sequence, the one supplied earlier by Wayne will do. Then take some time to: Play it in a country and western syle. Play it funky. Play it late 80's shoe gazer indie... etc. Doesn't matter too much what you come up with, but being creative with other styles can help unblock your own creative juices as it were.
6. it's a funny one this. The initial answer is no, but there are plenty of people on Basschat - some I haven't actually met in person - who I would be happy to lend gear to.
7.
and mentioned me as the current bass player
Bass player gets mentioned - that's the headline! MacWifey was asking when we're gonna see the band 'with your mate with the silver hair' again. Get thee south of the river soon!
8. Hanwell tonight
9. http://www.snap-drag...-range-19-w.asp Scroll down in the link for the bass. Ok, so it doesn't look all that, but if you believe the blurb a quality giggable bass you can put in your hand luggage? Has anyone heard of these or tried them?
10. An old mate of mine's clain to fame, was that Alf punched him. This was back in the day when she had a bit of weight to put behind a punch. She's still got a cracking voice.
11. Chiswick tomorrow: Fri 10th 9.00pm FREE George IV, 185 Chiswick High Road, Chiswick, London 020 8994 4624 . It's always a pleasure to return to the George IV, having played many terrific gigs there over the years. The Junkyard Dogs have recorded two live videos at this pub, confident of a great atmosphere. Come along and join in. then on Saturday: Sat 11th 9.00pm FREE Royal Victoria, 66 Boston Road, Hanwell, London 020 8567 4815 http://www.lemonrock.com/royalvictoria This is the Junkyard Dogs' first gig at the Royal Victoria. Come along and help make it a night to remember.
12. lack of bumpage may indicate I'm not desperate to sell. If they don't sell I'll probably put them in storage, which would be a shame as they deserve to be gigged.
13. mine.
14. if you can't commit then one is too many.
15. included with my MU membership along with free insurance
16. For the glasses wearers among us, do you wear them when gigging? I remember reading how John Lennon only had the confidence to wear his after seeing Buddy Holly. Has it ever been an issue?
17. Only this week read the April issue of BGM, and saw the obit. Over the years I've had 2 Ex-Factors - a regular Kubicki and one from the Fender custom shop.Incredible basses and an amazing neck. Phil personally got back to me when I had a Kubicki query. RIP Phil.
18. free insurance plus public liability included with MU membership.
19. Sunscreen. Corduroy. IIRC started around the same time and were quite popular within the Acid Jazz scene. They played at my uni during the 90's.
20.
I think he meant this... & not this...
well I know which I'd rather wear
21.
Is there an equivalent list for guitarists?
Trying to impress your mates in the audience by playing Metallica riffs during soundcheck = ejection from premises with guitar inserted in rear orifice.
22. i rest my Flying V against the amp, but I always stand it on something padded/soft and not directly on the floor. Edited, to add I lean it so the contact is with the strings and not the neck.
23. Playing above first octave = dismissal depressingly accurate
