  1. We hear this phrase a lot, but I don't think there was any hiding. People knew what was going on, maybe not the general public, but certainly within the industry, and as long as the perpetrators were bringing in the money the behaviour was tolerated.
  2. Second rehearsal with the full line up: vocalist; guitarist; drums; bass; and 3 backing vocalists. I was using my Boss ME-50B to experiment with dirt on the bass, I'd programmed a couple of patches that seemed to work, but I'd completely forgotten to do a 'clean' patch 😖 So some deft volume matching with the amp was called for. Guitarist who is the BL reckons we'll be gig ready in 3 more rehearsals.
  3. 😲 Would not have expected that! What cab were you using?
  4. Saw this and thought of you... 😉
  5. Buying means receiving an item, but paying doesn't necessarily mean receiving anything, or at least not immediately. So if I pay a deposit for a custom build, I might not receive it until next year, so would that mean I was still in?
  6. Old, decrepit, damp, and possibly haunted?
  7. The population of the USA is around 340 million, and the UK around 68 million, so why is there is not a difference of 392% (approx) in certification for album sales? Gold certification: USA 500,000 UK 400,000 Platinum certification: USA 1 million UK 600,000
  8. To be perfectly honest I am not impressed 😉
  9. Hair today gone tomorrow... Look after your backs folks, you only get one!
  10. A quick look at Sam Fox's discography on Wikipedia, shows she had 3 Gold albums in the USA, and featured in the Top 10 of their Hit Parade 3 times.
  11. There was a time that Jaco couldn't play harmonics. There was a time that Victor Wooten couldn't double thumb. There was a time Billy Sheehan couldn't tap. The point is we all go through a learning process. So don't think of yourself as an imposter, and just enjoy 😎
  12. Careful, if you read the small print on sugar free confectionary it says "excessive consumption may lead to laxative effects"
  13. Last night was the first rehearsal with the full line up, the rest of the full line up being the 3 backing singers. Sounding pretty good, gonna be fun when we start gigging 🙂
  14. For the guitarists very most probably. There is a difference between perfect tuning and well tempered tuning. Some guitarists really notice it on the F# on the high E string, and tune by ear. But by a digital tuner it would be out. IIRC it was an old jazz guitar trick, to tune slightly sharp (we're talking microtones here) as it made the solos stand out.
  15. Write the theme tune, sing the theme tune... Great bass line though.
  16. Genius? No doubt extremely talented, but if we compare to an acknowledged musical genius such as Beethoven can we really call Partridge a genius?
  17. 4 strings for me, but with an extra 2 frets for a low D.
  18. When learning the rules for 4 part harmony, it was quite annoying to find out that Bach's 4 part harmonies break the rules all over the place 😡
  19. I shall try not to let it affect my day. I'm not promising anything mind. I'm not trying to prove anything, but it shows that musical theory can be directly applied in composition. Also that making vacuous statements like: is rather silly. Not least because if I know (for example) tapping a triad over a particular chord sequence will work, I know what it will sound like, but mainly because 'don't tell me what to do!'
  20. Only one way to test that. Bass solo kicks in 2:25. See what you think.
  21. In a covers band, what I play can be due to the band lineup.
  22. Sorry to tell you, but it was a good one! 😉
  23. Many years ago, I brought a song to the band. As we were going through it, the guitarist asked what happens next. As a joke I said "bass solo". Nobody laughed or said 'no', so I thought "bugger, I've got to do a bass solo". Probably 90% of what I came up with was performed on the spot due to my knowing a bit of music theory.
