1. Ive just tried IE8 and IE9 on two of my work PC's and they work fine (speed wise) so i think its possibly more to it than just the server getting bogged down. Oh, and FF6 and Chrome seem ok here as well.
2. Thanks Ped. The site loads quick enough on my iPhone, its just the text entry i have a problem with.
3.
Regarding mobile phones - the forum is currently using the full site, not a mobile theme. This means your phone will have to load the website that was meant to run on a much faster desktop/laptop PC that would have had a faster connection too. Mobile phones are simply nowhere near as fast as their larger counterparts yet.
Im no expert but i use full sites (as far as i know) for other forums, even flicker with all its images etc on my iPhone and have no problems typing with any of those, so while the above makes sense i dont think thats the reason.
4.
Specifically regarding input delays - does that occur on multiple browsers ? Try toggling the editing mode (button at top left of the edit box) and see if that makes any difference ? Isolating the problem is critical to being able to do something about it. EDIT: This post took less than 1 second to appear on my screen.
I've only got Safari on my iPhone and thats the only browser im having issues with. As i mentioned in the other thread, i cant access the mobile version to try. clicking on the "use mobile version" hyper link just refreshes the page.
5.
Even opening or replying to a thread is tediously slow, at the end of the day, I know I am only one person to feel this frustrated, but if this is causing me not to bother, switch off and watch something else, waiting for a day when it's up to speed again, then I guess it should be cause for concern if more people reacts like me. I press enter and ..... here goes nothing!
Its not just you, I think a lot of us feel frustrated at the moment. There were a few messages i wante dto reply to yesterday on my iPhone but its too much of a chore at the moment so i didnt bother. Funny thing though, im not having any PC issues at the moment at work. The site seems fine, typing is fast etc. It does seem a bit slower at home (on 50meg VM) but only this site so i know its not my connection or PC.
6. I think the transfer to the new server is still slowing things down. The way i understood it was that when the site was first updated it was on the old sever, it settled down a bit but then they started moving it to the new server so we have the slowdown again. No idea why the iPhones are getting the typing issues but it seems ok on my PCs.
7. I can't get the mobile version working on my iPhone. When i select the hyperlink to use it I just get taken back to the page im already on. Anyone else seeing this?
8.
I simply can't use the site on my iPhone, it's desperately slow and unresponsive. Which is gutting as that where I'm visiting from pretty much the whole time. gutted.
Im still having a iPhone problem as well. The pages are fine but any typing is really, really slow.
9.
Yep it's definitely a browser issue. I have Firefox and it works ok but I still need to keep reporting the issues until they are resolved ... for the greater good.
Good thinking, im sure there are still 10000's of people using IE8, i know of two big companies still no IE6.
10.
Ah ok thanks Dave.
No problem. Could you possible use a different browser to see if its your PC or IE8?
11. Its Search this topic.
12. Just brought some very cool looking strings off John. Nice quick delivery and a great price. Top bloke, cheers.
13.
just to ad the site's gone back to being painfully slow for me... hope things settle down...the delays are actually putting me off using basschat at the moment
Same here. I also find typing on my iPhone 4 to be so laggy that i could write a few words before anything shows up in the text box. Totally unusable for me now.
14.
Thanks chaps, looks like I made the right choice! The H2 should be with me on Friday
If it doesn't arrive tomorrow you're welcome to borrow my Edirol R-09HR. After looking around for something simple to record our gigs from the stage i found the Edirol to be ideal. It comes with a remote control, has a large flashing record button on the front and straps to my singers mic stand so we get a good stereo recording. It doesnt offer many bells and whistles but it does the job.
15. Just brought a Lakland neck of Duncan. Very quick delivery, packed well and no issues with it. He kept me up to date regarding shipping and also offered some advice on attaching it to my bass. Cheers mate.
16. Ooooo, i didnt know i had a thread. Cheers guys.
17. I am going to try some balsa wood at the weekend. I thnk the fit is ok but this was a rush job so I thnk I'll re seat the neck on sat and put something I'm the gap. The neck feels really nice. The action feels perfect and intonation is pretty good already. I think the maple makes the fiesta red a bit more palatable. A big thanks to Fran for positing pics of his CVP with MM neck. This made me realise how much nicer this bass could look.
18. Here you go, two quick snaps for now.
19. I've just put the new neck on the CVP and due to the Gotoh having a thicker base plate I have plenty of adjustment and have got a nice low action. The neck pocket gap is around 2mm so not too bad. I'll let the neck settle down for a few days and then think about sorting the gap out if it needs it. I can't detect any side to side movement but i will stuff something in there. Overall I'm very happy with the neck, and I have a unique bass.
20. Ive been thinking about that so im going to give it a try tonight. Ive also realised the Gotoh i have on the CVP might go higher than the Vintage bridge on the Jazz so im going to try the neck on the P as well. Cheers.
21. Just a quick update and another question. The neck arrived and its lovely. Just how i remembered Lakland necks to feel. Fit wise its not to bad, i would say the neck pocket gap is around 1mm so its not going to need major work there. The big problem i have is the heel is a bit thicker than the Squier heel. This means the strings are touching the last fret. Ive raised the saddles as high as i dare but its not going to be playable. Other than shim the bridge im hoping i can get a bit shaved off the heel so it fits better. The reason i would prefer it done to the neck is that im not sure what bass ill use it on. At the moment its on the Jazz and looks great but as the P is my main bass i think it will end up on that at some point. Any thoughts?
22.
I use this forum software myself and have just done the same update. You will find that the notification settings in your profile will have changed and you're probably not receiving your original notifications - just go into your profile settings and update them accordingly. There are a lot more settings than there were previously.
Care to elaborate on "accordingly"? We've already been through all of this many timesin this thread, im pretty sure Ped said it cant be done with this software but if you know of a way please share it with us. Cheers.
23.
What I used to get (if I left it long enough) was an email a day from each section of the forum with all the posts made in it and in the order that they were made. So I might have 3-5 emails a day with 20-60 replies in each. Now what I'm getting is an individual email notification per member's post regardless of sub-fora. And if someone replies more than once Gmail groups that reply with the previous reply from that person - bumping it down, putting that reply out of sync with the conversation. So now I am getting 100's of emails a day all jumbled up.
There is the option to have a daily report, maybe give that a go and turn off the individual emails.
24.
But reading the notifications in my in-box isn't ideal either as 1 thing that bugs me about the new notification system is that when my Gmail groups the "conversations" per member, it puts that members replies out of sync with other people in the thread conversation who may have only left one reply. Speed is good. Well done lads.
I hate Gmail. Although i use a gmail account i never use the web based version. I hate the way its grouped together. Although a lot of people hate it i always use Outlook, it just seems easier to navigate through messages. Here's another strange thing. When i get notifications if anyone has typed a price in to a message all i get is a bunch of figures. Someone has typed £30 in one of the threads but in the notification it reads as code rather than as it displays here. Anyone else notice this?
25. I tend to log in when a participated thread has been replied to, now i have to log in to find out if a thread has had a new reply. Thats not ideal and i cant think of any other web forum that i use that works like that. Other than to post ive been reading this thread via the emails as there seems no need to keep coming on here to read the replies. Still, not the end of the world but i think it might put a few people off or mean that some people might take days to reply to a thread.
