Its funny how OP had a bad experience at the Gallery and a lot of people are defending or making excuses for it, yet if the OP had said Bass Cellar everyone would be slagging the sales guy off. Sorry, no offence to anyone (nor the Gallery and staff, alex has always seemed a bit quiet but very helpful), its just something that struck me after reading just the first page.

A bit off topic but personally i found the pots to feel a bit cheap and moved a bit too easily, not smooth like my MB heads.

Living and working in the centre of London im always moaning that we have to travel out of the capital to play most of our gigs, an dit would be great to play one where i can walk or just get a tube to it. Saying that, on the odd occasions that we have had inner London gigs they have been a right pain to get to, load in (especially), park etc so i dont blame anyone for not relishing playing in London, but i would never turn a paying gig down just because its more hassle (as much as i would like to sometimes)

Ive gone through 3 bridges on my Squier CVP. The original HM, a Fender (BBOT) vintage and a Gotoh 201. I didn't notice much difference in tone or sustain, but i much prefer the feel of the Gotoh when im resting the side of my hand on it, and i think it looks the best. Good enough reason for me to have done the upgrade IMO.

This reminds me of my old Ashdown ABM head. A big plus for me was it had a mute. Not only did it click when engaged it never actually muted either. It would attenuate the signal quite a bit but it would never 100% silence my bass. Even at home levels i noticed this. Ashdown seemed to think this was normal when questioned. Never again.

Having used MB heads for a few years with no FX etc i now couldn't (or rather wouldn't like to) gig without my BDDI. I dont use it for any of that Ampeg nonsense, nor for any distortion but it does seem to bring my tone to life with just a small amount on the blend knob. A nicer, deeper low end and some nice sparkle. Seems to work well with MB heads. The Behringer BDI21 9BDDI clone) is under £30 and well worth a try IMO, and almost as good as the real thing. -

I had 3 MIA Jazz basses last year and all had defects that my HW-1/one and Squiers (in fact all my past basses) didnt have. I had a MIM classic 70s Jazz that had a raised 12th fret as well. Dont go on cost, go on what feels best/sounds best, higher cost doesn't guarantee getting the best these days. They all offer different features as well so its worth looking at the specs rather than just what type of bass and where its made. Ive owned some nice Laklands and MIA Fender's but quite happy with my Squiere's these days. They all do the job, why pay more for something that probably wont do it any better than a bass that costs half the price.

Happy Birthday Neil. I had a black Ray34 for a few months last year and loved it. The only issue i had was i still felt the neck was a bit wider than i cared for, but i could live with it if i had to. While they cost a bit more now i still think they are good in their own right. Lots of people say its better to get a secondhand SR4 but its not always that easy to get one that looks as nice as the Ray34 with its matching headstock at that price. I do have GAS for a Ray34CA but doubt ill get one.

Ive got a Peterson Strobo-clip and a Snark and both work really well. I too was a bit sceptical about this type of tuner but ive not had any problems with mine. I only really use the Peterson when i change strings or do a set up as its not cheap and doesn't look like it will hold up to a lot of gigging. The Snark is good enough for gig tuning and it looks pretty good as well. Both work very well in loud environments.

The im sure they could use words like Equivalent, as loud as etc but then that might put people off, so knowing that they seem to be covering up the true spec's to help boost their sales. That to me is not honest.

I checked it with my Peterson Stroboclip and both showed correct pitch. It does light up so yes, you can use it on a dark stage. If you have seen any images of it the coloured sections are back lit. They arent too bright but i like it like that as it doesn't draw any attention.
