  1. Didn't want to be boring and list my outboard, but do have fx, etc. Most mixers have 4 band eq - less than many heads (mine has 6), so not always the case.
  2. Stingray Pete. If we're going to compare stuff, my PA is a Soundcraft GB4 into Fohhn LX150 tops and XS30 subs. Not cheap kit. Without my Basswitch in the line, it's clean but anaemic for bass. All the best.
  3. Not my point. Mixing desk eq not generally suitable without some kind of preamplification. You get a flat, sterile, 'studio' sound (regardless of the quality of desk). I know because I've tried my bass via my own(high quality) desk and PA.
  4. I'd take a decent preamp a least - the average mixing desk eq won't cut it for your bass. I agree with others' suggestions to take a combo.
  5. Surely it isn't only about what the audience hears/likes? If you enjoy the sound you make, you'll play better and probably win over more people. Even if they don't like you, the good feeling you get from playing and sounding good will be its own reward/consolation. I take a very high quality PA to pub gigs (because it's all I have) and it does us no harm, at worst.
  6. Why not speak to Armstrong's. They're very helpful in my experience and may be able to make suggestions. That way, you'll get an exact size replacement. The other thing that occurs is the question as to whether you are looking for a P sound from it, which perhaps isn't in its palette and you'd be better sticking with the P.
  7. Good for Bill. So much snake oil in cables, especially in wunnerful wold of hi-fi (where those with the most expensive set-ups usually have Van Gogh's ear for music).
  8. Easy. Just post an expensive instrument in the for sale section for 50 quid, no questions asked. You'll get barred in no time
  9. Isn't this a little pointless? Call it trade or sale, "value" of anything is where what a buyer is prepared to pay meets what a seller is prepared to accept. There is no ultimate determinant of value other than the market.
  10. Japan Axe. Have no doubt you're right. I emailed them once, asking if they would be interested in selling my Satellite P Bass that had been owned by Gary Glitter. To their credit, they sent an amusing reply.
  11. Easy. Just buy his hands and brain from him and you'll have it nailed...
  12. Also try Jacks Instrument Services in Manchester. Nice chaps and don't use cheap stuff either.
  13. Interestingly, the 200 works very well with a PJB Piranha cab.
  14. If you like the sound, why not slave it to an additional power amp and cab?
  15. The one I tried had a marked midrange clang you couldn't get rid of. Not my cuppa tea.
  16. Or a P Bass Special - P+J pickups. Love mine.
  17. Never got this "ex famous name guitar" nonsense. There's a shop in Chelsea that advertises ordinary instruments that are supposed to have been owned by stars for silly prices. They're still in business, so I assume some fool must buy them.Crazy.
  18. Turned up to set up for our gig this evening, to be shown a space 2 metres by 3, where we (5 piece - drums, bass, 2 guitars and keys, 2 vox + PA) were expected to play. Venue seemed surprised when we said it couldn't be done. The so-called "agent" had visited and said it would be fine, apparently. Didn't even unload the kit from the cars. Bloody waste of an evening .
  19. I know when I'm beaten Dave...
  20. Good man, toneknob. Satellite Precision copy here. Must be worth all of £50. Mine's bigger/more expensive that yours, eh?
  21. You can't simply drop a P pickup into a Jazz. You'd need to cut a different sized hole for it. Rather than wreck the re-sale value of your Jazz, best to just get a P bass.
  22. Moral is not to let people loose on your kit. If people ask to use mine, I ask them for the keys to their car (probably worth similar). That shuts them up. Hope it's OK.
  23. Scammers? Sounds like an opportunity to have some fun with them if they're trying their luck on here. Check out Ebola Monkey Man's site (Google will find it) for ideas.Hilarious P.S. albinokiller?Terrible name.Sounds like someone who does terrible things to small furry animals...
