1. i know this feeling - been diagnosed with finger arthritis - preserve what you have, is my advice
2.
I don't play bass at all anymore, I only play guitar. I'm a pretty terrible guitarist but I find that I get far more enjoyment out of playing guitar badly than I ever did out of playing bass well.
Get out ! out out !
3.
I used to play guitar until I saw the 'light' but still keep hankering after 6 stringers and think how lovely they look and I really should buy one again. But then I remember I was crap at playing guitar and no amount of time, practice or lessons made any difference, so I stick with bass and remain happy.
Thank you
4. about buying a six string electric. In the bad old days I used to have one and I always wanted to be good at it but found I much preferred bass. I keeping looking at six string multi fx and battered Strats that come up on here occasionally that mercifully someone else buys first (there was a cheap MIK one a while back that I was very close to pulling the trigger on). I don't want to turn to the Dark Side Anyone else wobbled from the righteous path like this ?
5. I'd be worried - looks like a bitsa to me
6.
Thanks for the responses guys. All good information. I will take the advice of trying and oiling it up first and see if this helps. If not, I will take it back to the store. This is when I'm happy I don't buy over the interweb. I hear you on the lineless, bassman7755, that's in the future budget.
It's ebanol,so oil won't help. Take it back to the shop
7. Take it back and discuss it with them, I would advise
8. I can't see why it would hurt
9. i dislike Bonio intensely but 30+ years of being a frontman (see also Jim Kerr etc) to millions of people hanging on your every word probably turn you out like that. I doubt he started that way. I can't deny his lyrical ability and vocal range.
10. I have a jap made one- neck that bit fatter than your jazz (too thin for me too) but not too fat
11. I've not found anything to beat my bass doc precision. It's now looking a bit beaten up but that's part of its charm
12. Try googling " newtone strings"
13.
All good stuff, thank you all. So am I right in thinking I don't need to supply a bass (other than for my own use) ? Les
I always take mine, and since I'm the only bass player it's not been an issue. Usually back line is just a zoom pedal into a PA so damage not a problem
14. Back up the punters who've come solo Mentor people a little Step aside for another possibly newbie bassist
15. Flash and a dab of fairy liquid works
16. Good question since it says "limited run of six "
17. Just learned "place your hands" and "groove is In the heart" which are quite fun
