1. Never thought I'd thank Trump for anything, and so soon - U2 have shelved their album. Result. http://downtrend.com...of-donald-trump
2.
It's the old glue in the case that stinks to high heaven. I'm dealing with the same issue. The case smells exactly as if someone pissed in it. Blue
Probably fish glue or animal hide glue. Acoustic instruments still use this as it can be steamed apart to facilitate repairs, unlike modern glues. It is also said to sound better, but is no good for metal. Early VW saloons used fish glue to hold the head lining, and used to stink, but that is all they could get post bombed out WW2
3. Another 'apologies if it's already been posted' (but it is amazing, so here it is) Isolated Ziggy vocal track. https://t.co/qyPFDRr58t
4.
I've always found the choice in strings for short scale basses is very limited.
Yes. Scale length is not the only problem, or may not even be a problem. I can't find flats for a 30" of suitable tension (don't get on with rounds). I use TI flats on my 34" P which I find easier than a 30" scale, There is no TI 30" flats , or I would try them. I dont have large hands or fat fingers but the string tension and narrow nut on the 30" is something I can't get used to, but the fret spacing does not see to be a problem - I have 30, 32 and 34 scales.. Further to bluebottle's post, this may help, there is a link in this post for ball to taper lengths: http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__2909037
5. Google finds a few of these, some at silly prices. Not sure they are all genuine NANOLON® fibre products.
6. Cleans off sweat and dead skin.... And some newer technology that seems to be from USA but not common yet ( none in stock at Amazon) http://www.nanoroad....ano-towels.html On microfibre, one of our central heating radiators was pretty filthy where the dog rubs against it as she runs outside. Paper towel and some (non abrasive) worktop cleaner would not shift it, microfibre with same fluid did easily.
7.
I'd say avoid any liquid/fluid that could soak into the bare wood or wick into cracks in the finish. My starting point would be a gentle wipe over with a soft cloth just barely dampened with white spirit immediately followed by a bit of 'heavy breathing'/buffing with a clean, dry cloth. Do an initial trial on a small area on the back of the body and see how it looks after a few hours first.
Any old cloth? Here's the 'science bit': http://www.explainthatstuff.com/microfibercloths.html
8. Just checked the Deko pages, a HB P and a HB MM fiver and a few guitars - all now sold. Very few Dekos these days! Original HB Deko thread is here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227421-thomann-selling-harley-benton-basses-as-decoration-only/page__view__findpost__p__2341283

10. Darn it, I've now gone and ordered a black bridge. Blasted thread!
11. I have the rosewood version, a really nice neck on it (2013). I'm slowly "de-chroming" it, so may get a black bridge. - Don't listen to them, leave the pickguard alone, else it will look awful!
12. More Inauguration Blues in the news... https://www.theguard...EMCNEWEML6619I2
13. This apperaed on Planet Rock website a few days ago, hope they come up with something new. http://www.planetrock.com/news/rock-news/watch-royal-blood-tease-new-album-in-2017/
14.
Why not look in the build section on here, there are some very talented people making some beautiful kit.
# Not with a £60 budget! Have you tried Thomann, they are probably like the HBs
15.
Rumours abound that Tony Blair and Boris Johnson will shortly share a platform as 'Anthony and the Johnsons'
Let me guess.... BoJo plays spoons?
16.
Also favs of mine.
Just for you, Blue.... https://www.facebook.com/remasteringMasters/videos/1018926784866684/
17. 70's prog rock trio May Blitz (anyone remember them?) have decided to reform to make that third studio album. However the band name does not seem to be politicaly correct in a post 70's world, so they have decided on a new name May Brexit. The album will include old favourites like Theresa's Smoking The Day Away, Fire Queen and I Don't Know.
18.
The Squier US site currently details the VM as having an Agathis body whereas this year some UK retailers are advertising the Stop Dreaming Jag package with a spec that omits to mention the body material. Either way, there are secondhand VM SS Jags out there that are cheaper than either of the new options.
I got a UK VM SS Jag about 2 years ago, (neck is marked 2013 in pocket) the body material was said to be Agathis. (I often suspect it is whatever they can get hold of, under the paint!) Seem to have gone up a lot since then! mine was well under 200. I guess that's the weak pound.
19. ... In other news, The Leavellers are re-issuing their 2005 album 'Truth and Lies'.
20. When asked if 2016 was the worse year ever in rock music, futuristic prophecy popsters Zager and Evans replied (as they entered the studio to record an album of Frank Sinatra covers), "hell no, the worst is yet to come, "
21.
They're the best blues band to come out of London.IMO Blue
You missed Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac?
22.
But I do wonder how people get the rhythmic structure of a song from tab.
Like this. But you do end up just remembering patterns, but then I'm too old for anything else. I'd probably still be on page 10 of Ed Friedland's (excellent) course if not for this! EDIT: This is from the Hal Leonard Motown bass book
23.
He asked for accurate. Whilst tab may well give the correct notes, it won't communicate the rhythm, which, as a bass player in the motown genre, is essential for an accurate line.
The Leonard Motown Classics book is quite good. It has tab and dots. I can read the tab (failed guitar player) and read the rhythm from the dots (failed keyboard player). Don't think I'd be able to do any Jameson from dots alone - too old to learn stuff like that! Bit like learning a foreign language, it just does not register. Tab you find on the internet, without dots, is just useless, best avoided.
24. Another point about the wood base hangers, the screws are further apart, so less leverage on them and 3 screws close together in a crumbly wall is not so good.
