Hi, I need help on a Fender Jazz Bass FSR/Special Edition. The serial is 005XX. I can´t seem to fin info on it. Can anyone inform me if it is USA, MIM or CIJ. Regards Helder
You lucky boy, it's gorgeous! It looks like a Fender Japan JB66 but the headstock logo looks more 70s, but I can't recall ever seeing a 70s with a matched headstock. No info on the bass anywhere on it? Not on the neck heel? have you taken the neck off? I'm no expert but they will probably be along shortly
So that very clean 1952 P is an £18000 fake?
Sorry, thought we were taking about the American Standards.

For that price you could buy over 20 new ones, and at least one of them would be a gem. When, incidentally, did they start through-body stringing?
2009
I used to have only vintage gear, amps as well as basses and guitars, but since the prices of even the dodgiest looking gear has rocketed,i dont anymore. Sure id love another 60's Fender, and i think that i could easily have spotted a fake when i had vintage gear, but nowadays who knows what you are buying.I also agree that there seem to be far more vintage fenders about than ever, especially custom colour ones. What happened to all the 70's ones where you could get a coin between the neck and the body ?I remember having a problem giving a 70's Fender Musicmaster bass away for free.
? There are plenty there mate, look at the string/neck alignment
-
Most of them are 1970s three bolts, priced up with Vintage and Rare, and the necks aren't aligned properly - the G is nearly off the board on most of them. And yet, the same ol 'I jus creamed in my pants, if only I had the money' comments keep getting posted. That said, there have been a couple of very nice looking 1960s ones.
WOW, just noticed Bass Merchant has put the prices up of there Fender USA Standard Jazz Bass from £899 to £1048 I was looking to buy one of these on Monday but probably won't now as I have just been outpriced They were the best price I could find but now this seems the standard price everywhere. Has Fender put the prices up again causing everyone to hike the prices up? Crazy money and I was looking forward to getting one of these
That is still a decent price, Michael.

Tough one. This is the closest I can find but they are no name and not in black. http://phantomguitars.com/store/products/C...tuners)%09.html

You're in London. Take it to the Bass Gallery and get them to sort your electronics to your requirements. http://www.thebassgallery.com/workshop.cfm

Forget the pups. Get the J-Retro first and see how you go. The J-Retro should deliver on all but the shittest pups. Do NOT sell your Jazz if you already love its playability. That is MUCH harder to replicate with a new bass.

If You Could Have 1 Hour With Any Living Bass Player.....?
xilddx replied to merello's topic in General Discussion
John Myung or Dave Ellefson no competition at all Thanks for the BILF thread though
An hour with John Myung would be like a year in a Trappist monastery. -
Just watch Van Halen and Michael Jackson videos Seriously, I have practised stage moves in the past. It's no different to practissing answers for interviews or whatever. I absolutely could not just stand there like a fish and just play. My instinct is to dress up and move with the music, and hopefully entertain the audience and show an onstage relationship with my singer and the other members of the band. And I don't care if I look weird doing it.

I had a gorgeous Jap Fender Jazz on here at a good price for a month and it didn't shift. I put it on the bay and it went within 3 days to a very very nice bassist who absolutely loves it. After (the perfectly reasonable) fees I am left with what I had it on here for. Ebay is fine. Yes there is a lovely community here but if it ain't selling what you gonna do?

I agree with Bilbo. Soloing with a bass is like painting with mud. Bass is a supporting instrument. Its timbre, its register, its limitations. Support. The bass is capable of many beautiful things, but soloing is not one of them. Why anyone would want to expose themselves in such a way is quite beyond my understanding, unless to demonstrate to others how amazing you are in the bedroom. The only people who are pleased to hear a bass solo, are other bassists who want to learn how to perform a bass solo.
You know, I've spent the last two hours researching headphones. These Sony's get some great recommendations, they're a studio standard. The consensus of opinion seems to be that for studio monitoring don't go for Bose or Grado, both are too unaccurate.
I just got recommended these KRKs from Digital Village, so I bought them. They seem very good. £129 http://www.dv247.com/headphones/krk-kns-84...adphones--80557
Yeah I know, I'm a sucker haha. I've been thinking about getting the stock Fender model and whacking on some flats, still might.
Do it. Try and get a Jap Fender non-export model. A good S/H one won't cost much more than a new MIM, and it will kick a USA Fender's backside to kingdom come. -
Well I'm currently down to 2, but even if I had thousands it'd be this one...
It looks lovely! Is it a real Rick?

Without a doubt, it would be the Chris Squire Electra style one that I designed and made out of a Warwick neck, MEC pickups, Hipshot bridge and tuners, John East U-Retro deluxe pre, custom made Shucker mirror PG, and a body I commissioned a mate to make for me and finished by me in oly white nitro. It's a fantastic bass that does everything I need a bass to do and it sounds wonderful. Anyway, it's my only bass now, so I'd be a bit f***ed if I let it burn
