One of my stranger moments. Bass players in masks anyone?
Go on then, I'll play Probably playing some sort of slo blooz, or something... Slightly more 'rawk'! Used to wear hats live quite a lot actually, can't find many pictures though for some reason...
You are stylin sir!

Are you going to be playing fast groups of notes? Or just long slow notes? I have to make my bass sound like a cello for quite a few songs, long slow notes. I use compression and clean boost, a little chorus, reverb and delay, and my volume pedal. I also use the cello/violin style vibrato technique. I'd use the piezo emulator if I wanted it to sound more woody and hollow. An up octaver would probably suit you to get viola pitch. Can't help you if you want to play like Paganinni on the viola though. You'd need something to auto slow the attack and mimic the characteristics of a bowed acoustic instrument.
I think Hedrien is technically a great player, I really do. Admittedly not my thing but he's very good at what he does, no denying it! But I hear technically 'competent' musicians playing in faux-funk bands like these all the time, and can't help feeling how generic and lifeless it sounds. There's almost no feel to it, the keyboard playing is as stiff as a board and the singer IMO can't actually sing particularly well. I appreciate talent on all sorts of levels and clearly they can all play, but as a band they just don't work to my ears. Sorry man, this is purely my opinion and I'm sure that there will be others that will totally disagree with me but I see a lot of bands like this through my old Uni and I always think it to be totally uninspired.
I'm afraid I can only agree, sorry. it just ain't got the funk. And I instantly 'disliked' the singer. Funk is a lifestyle. Soz Mike
TIM. My '75 RI has gone to Gareth_Hughes. Thankfully you are a long way from me Nigel, because despite wanting a Duck Dunn, I know your bass is going to be; 1. Fantastic to play. 2. Stunning to look at. 3. Never worth any less?? than it is now. Import jobs are going up by the month. Just hope somebody hit's the buy it now button before I have to go down to Brum or somewhere. That will be too close for comfort . Karl.
I could meet you in Brum, I'm playing there with Krupa this Saturday
Shame it can't stay 'in the family' as it were, but them's the breaks . I'm no fan of Fenders, but that's just sex-onna-stick Pete.
I know man, it saddens me, but what you gonna do? The Basschat discount and the spare bridge wasn't enough to shift it here Cheers, N
i wouldn't take any opinions as true. just try and fix it and if it can't be fixed, chuck it. i'd be very surprised if truss rod + a fretboard level and refret wouldn't work. guitars are 'stored' in tension for decades with no problems.
Truth. I have never understood why people keep advising other people to slacken truss rods and strings before storage or shipping. It's absolute crap. If you play an instrument constantly for 50 years it doesn't suffer from a correctly tensioned truss rod and strings tuned to normal pitch, and it doesn't when in normal storage. Just leave the bass as it is - playable, that's what it was designed for.

They are way better than you'd ever expect. They fool everyone that's ever looked at them. Durable too.
