Clarky, if it helps, here's the thread I started with before and after sound clips of my Jazz with and without your J-Retro. Also, this unit is virtually mint, it has no solder joints, nothing.
I'm tempted by this but I'm really after a 75 reissue. It's the block inlays. This bass with blocks would be perfect. If I bought it I'd be looking at others with blocks and thinking I should have waited. I think......
I'm the same, actually wanted a JB66 in white, block and bound, matching white headstock. Would have cost me over £1100 from Japan via an exporter. But I got this one and I didn't miss the B&B at all, I adore block and bound though I have actually developed a great love for the look of dot and bound lately too.
+1 There have been many useful posts recently and my gardening one has plenty of fans all beavering away with their vegetables
Exactly what I'm saying. What I need to learn about bass is minimal compared to what I need to learn about people's attitudes to things, life in general, topics I'm not au fait with, world affairs, and developing my own attitude and opinions. I have learned so much from Off Topic threads, and I am a more well rounded person for it. I couldn't get that amount of opinion and knowledge from my circle of friends, even though it is quite large and diverse. Music isn't about music, it's about getting in touch with yourself and representing that through your chosen medium, in this case music, and more specifically, relating your bass expression to the context of music, and relating that music to the context of your life. Off Topic can be the most musically inspiring place of all here.
Ooh, can I be block from Off Topic too? It's the one area of Basschat I can't abide. Seriously, if I wasn't able to see it I'd be hugely grateful
I just can't understand people who feel this way. What's the reason for saying it?

Well, I couldn't have posted in the General Bass Discussion about my closest friend dying last week and receive all those wonderful supportive messages which helped me deal with it. So I'm very grateful for Off Topic. It's not all sh*t and wind in there, in fact the argumentative threads in there are minimal, as are threads which end up being locked. Off Topic is very useful in many respects. It's sad people don't go in there because they are under some misguided illusion it's a war zone.
How is this still here?! This is the best looking Jazz on basschat right now and a sound investment at a good price!
I can't quite believe it either mate It's a fabulous bass to play, a real head-turner, a good price, and it will hold its value more or less.

What's the best bit of kit you've ever bought?

My POD X3 LIVE. I'd be lost without it. -
Hi Silddx You're not selling the jazz - that's the one you posted with the East pre-amp. That sounded gorgeous. You were so excited about that bass - why sell ? I appreciate circumstances at moment are difficult to say the least and i can only sympathise with you. Perhaps waiting would be better idea until things settle a bit before selling anything. ? Give it some more thought before diving in friend. Please ! GAS :- WAL custom Mk1, Shergold (maybe a twin neck), Overwater 4 & 6 string fretted, Overwater jazz, Gibson Grabber. Cheers Dave
Yip, I am selling it. It's gorgeous and I had that itch that would not go away until I'd bought a great Jazz. I do love it, but going from 24 frets to 20 freaked me a little bit. I do things that require 24 frets, and I have other priorities now. My Electra home build serves me wonderfully well, but the Jazz's neck is the nicest I've ever played, I had to have it! But I just bought a new Mac and I need recording gear. You're right though, I could hang onto it, I can probably afford to. But I have no pressing need to keep it, and Clarky now has the J-Retro that I'd put in it. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter though, Dave
Indeed it looks horrid. I'm cured of gas.
The BlingBass is not everyone's cup of tea, I'll grant you, that's why I love it so much I'm just glad I got that Fender nonsense out of the way

No GAS whatsoever anymore. I'm selling my Fender Jazz, or trying to, which leaves me with a single instrument, my Chris Squire Electra-style home made bass. It does everything I need it to, totally reliable, sounds ace with its East U-Retro Deluxe, looks fabulous, and the only thing I don't totally dig is the clubby older-style Warwick neck. It doesn't bother me much anymore though, I don't really care. Who wouldn't have GAS for this

I got the new 13" MacBook Pro 4Gb on Sunday. I'm totally new to Mac and it's been an absolute pleasure switching from Windows. Looks like a great machine too. I love it! I've not really used a DAW before but I intend to get Reaper and a multi-channel audio interface, probably a Focusrite Saffire 24 VRM, unless anyone knows of a more suitable one. I hear it's only FW400 compatible though and may need an adapter, is that right?

Alesis SR16 Drum Machine (with PSU & Manual) in very good condition. It has always worked perfectly and still does. I don't need it anymore. £40 + £5 P&P or cash on collection welcome, from Ealing, west London. I'm not sure if I have the original box, but I will very securely pack it. Pictures on here tonight, but here's one for reference.

It's easy to use, produces top quality recordings, and this is the model with the CD burner. This is in near mint condition, works perfectly, not a single issue with it. I bought it new from DV. I don't need it anymore. I'll get some pics up tonight.
A female front singer for that kind of band just does not do it for me. Your singer in particular is just not suited to the material, no grunt to the voice. You need someone that can move around the stage and communicate with the audience, she is unable to do this if she keeps reading lyrics from a music stand. Even if she knows some of the lyrics to some of the songs, she cant truly rock out just in case she forgets the lyrics without them directly in front of her. Sorry
I'm sorry too, I can only agree. Band seems reasonably competent if lacking in finesse. But going from clip to clip, everything sounded the same, the only difference in each being the song was a different one. Couldn't handle the singer I'm afraid, reminded me of off-season Blackpool entertainment. I'd have to neck my pint and leave. I really am sorry to be so honest, I hope you're not offended by it. You did ask for honest opinions.
Wish I had the money and space to have this Bump for a nice bit of kit
Thank you mate. I've got the space, but not enough money. Otherwise I'd keep it for sure. I LOVE playing it, but for what I do, it's not practical. I was daft buying it in the first place but the itch for a great Jazz Bass was with me for ages. That problem is possibly solved, for the time being
I also bought a bass very recently from a German company, which will remain nameless, but let's give it a nickname, how's about "Tho". The bass looked like either a return or an ex-demo, as there were quite subtle signs on it (like a couple of scratch stripes on the pickup from the B string, for instance). However it was in a condition it would have been in after a couple of days anyway, so I kept it. I'd be interested if you also bought from "Tho". Mind you, it was over £200 cheaper from there than anywhere else I could find so maybe they sold it at a return price even though it was described as new. And as for the OP, good luck with getting a discount or refund!
Sounds like B stock.
I've just got home and found the Phil Jones Bass Buddy that I ordered last week waiting for me. First impressions weren't good, it was in its case, which was dusty, that was inside the original box, which was a bit bashed and that was in another cardboard box - clearly not original and packed out with bits of polystyrene. The inside lining of the case was a bit of a mess and the casing of the BB itself had some small scratches on it indicating to me it was either used or ex-demo. Further evidence of my suspicions were provided by the lead which had been unravelled and was just shoved in the case. I haven't plugged it in yet but I'm seriously considering sending it back cos these things aren't cheap. Is that a bit anal? What would you do?
That is NOT anal. That's like buying dinner and noticing someone's had a slurp of your hollandaise when it arrives at your table. Call them, and tell them to arrange a courier to collect it. That is completely unacceptable if you were told it's new by the shop. I doubt I would ever do business with that shop again if it happened to me. Who was it?

Damn, busy on the 25th, and I need to keep May 5th free for rehearsals, but if that changes I'll try to make it to the Hideaway. Sounds very cool! Cheers Mike. N
