1. How are they so cheap??!
2. I love Strats. Despite their huge popularity, I grew up with many guitarists who didn't use them, as they weren't cool or didn't sound heavy enough. I think the Strat tone is something every guitarist needs to experience. Clean Fender amp, reverb, delay, and play about with the excellent clear as a bell tones. Alternatively, crank an amp, or use a pedal, and a Strat will sound fantastic. I don't really use high gain/heavy tones, apart from added distortion from pedals. I am much more of a clean to low gain guy, then add fuzz when needed. All the positions are great, but I currently use neck, neck and middle, and bridge the most.
3.
Have you tried your bass through the 68 Deluxe Reverb ? Do you think it would work at as a low volume Bass & Guitar amp (out not in house) ? Brendan
As in at a low level practice with a band? Certainly with the guitar; wouldn't dare try the bass! As fas as guitar through it at home, it is quite hard to get it really quiet. Those watts are LOUD!
4. Do they still make those angled versions?
5.
22 watts for guitar isn't small, especially when you're looking at valve amps.
No, definitely not. I wanted under 30, preferably under 20, but the 22 W Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb sounds SO good, and received so much praise, that I had to get one. I used to have a much larger/higher wattage Hot Rod Deville...and it sounded nowhere near and good as this 68. I think even my Dual Terror at 7W is too loud through its matching 2x12 cab. The two practice amps noted are both solid state and are both 10W....and smaller speakers, (especially the Yamaha). We are talking a volume that isn't intrusive at all...
6.
I have the 10, not the 10C. For practice it is absolutely brilliant and I use it both for guitar and bass. In fact I don't use anything else now at home and I'm playing the 'holy trinity' of LP, Strat and Tele. Connecting to a PC via USB means there are loads more parameters (compression, reverb and delay settings) you can adjust and send to the presets on the unit. It's great to be able to adjust the level of the guitar and aux input independently. The bass sound is remarkably good too and the effects apply equally as well to the bass sound. And, aesthetically it is very pleasing also it looks nice sitting on a shelf in my office! Highly recommended. steve
Great, thanks!!!
7. As my foray into the world of guitar gets more and more interesting, I've realised that even a small 1x12 22w Fender combo is just TOO loud for the house. I am still practicing before getting into bands with guitar, so home is where I play the most. Most high end bass combos for home/very small gigs are hugely expensive and probably not something I need. However, after checking the market for small low volume guitar practice amps, that still have good tone and more importantly allow me to test pedals and practice, it seems these two amps have bass functionality: Roland Cube 10GX, Yamaha THR10 (I'd opt for the 10c). Has anyone attempted bass through these on the bass setting? I'm not expecting any kind of miracle, just a half decent very low volume bass sound that sounds like the bass, for low volume home practice etc. Both amps, more so the Yamaha, have got very good reviews. I wouldn't ever need a Phil Jones or micro Mark Bass amp; just too much money for such a small item which is only of use for me at home, (and I have other small options for small gigs but at the mo, even a 2x10 is proving pretty loud and transmits bass through the floor!).
8. Sherwood Green is gorgeous. That's my input. I had a Fender Jaguar 'Marrguar' which wasnt finished well at all, but the colour was great.
9. Wow. That's a huge cut of colours and a shame to see the Big Al go (absolutely love mine; just seen a similar one in PMT Manchester which is a beautiful!)
10. I'd just get a USA Stingray instead of wanting one, going for a cheaper model, then eventually going US anyway!
11. Sad news. National treasure.
12.
I just bought my son a slightly late 21st birthday present ~ Fender Jaguar Thinline. Pics to follow.
Is this the Japanese model? I can confirm these are superb. The quality is excellent and the guitar is super easy to play.
13. Just picked up a few cheaper on Amazon (guitar related) and I'm impressed. Isn't it funny how guitar gear always has the good offers compared to bass!
14. If I didn't have so many Ray's I'd get one of these (well, I would have pre-ordered!)
15.
since i got the news that Jeff Genzler is back in business!
Ditto. I can't wait for Genzler's new amps and cabs.
16. I bought a load of Fender Custom Shop patch cables and they are excellent.
17.
... but Boss pedals never break...
It's almost as if I have this image in my head of what a guitar effects pedal is, and the first thought is the classic rock hard Boss design. I mean, for £39 or less, you get an SD-1 or DS-1, and used with a good amp, they are excellent pedals. Robust, easy, cool tones, and the SD-1 does a great job of pushing the front end. Sorry - getting into guitar land now!
18.
-an extra 60" of cabling being added to the distance between the bass and amp. A buffered pedal will negate that if placed correctly in the chain.
That is the point i'd start taking much more notice!
19. All that true bypass/buffer/etc doesn't really affect me. I just don't pay it any attention.
20. I'm jealous of that era. I grew up with Nirvana/alternative grunge and punk and the Brit pop scene. Whilst both were great, and I've not seen anything similar to a full wave of bands like that for a long time, I envy anyone who was alive and enjoyed/got involved with The Beatles. Every band I listen to has the Beatles in them, somewhere. I lived near Liverpool briefly (and I'm still only 30-40 mins away in the car) and I can honestly say I love it. The city feels alive with music and The Beatles made that place such an exciting place then and now.
21. Great pics as usual Dave - interested to know how you get on with it.
22.
I think it's because they stayed away from weird and wonderful (like mid-DOD (Gonkulator etc) and a lot of boutique brands now) and simply went for solid, functional sounds. No, the OD-2 or CE-2 pedals aren't exciting, but they're on more boards than any Keeley or Walrus Audio pedal, purely because they were the first to mass-develop these little boxes that we love, and they nailed the basic sounds that get you through a gig. Simply put, you go and watch a critically acclaimed noise band where you're very aware of the strange and impressive sounds, they'll probably not use much Boss.....you make an association there. With that said, even a band like Tera Melos always have 4 or 5 Boss pedals each, and they sound weeeiriirrdddd. You go and watch any massive act where all that is needed is basic and solid effects, bet there's more Boss than you'd expect Si
Yes, agree with the above. The new RV-6 shimmer mode and the new delay unit DD-500 sound/look amazing...! I've recently tried and bought the Waza pedals and the DM-2W is a fantastic bit of kit. I've barely had time with the other two but initial impressions are great (guitar related). I'm impressed the OC-3 has guitar and bass inputs...might give one a go.
23. Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar (the recent Lacquer Classic series versions). A decent Gibson Les Paul.
24. Shame - if circs were different I'd have had these...I just have too much to pay out at the moment.
