The problem I keep finding is that they advertise the power as say 500 Watts etc but that is only when an extension cab is used, if no cab then back to 300 Watts and the scenario I now have !! I am trying to avoid having an extension cab because I have to carry around all the PA (being the singer) and my bass gear so no room for an extension . If I was not the singer then I would have a lot more choice ! I want preferrably a head of no less than 500 Watts when used with one 2x10 cab . I can get a Marshall 1x15 extension cab for £179 which would boost up to 450 Watts, this would be the cheapest option and enable me to keep the tones I like from my amp, just a pain having an extension - doh
Ah I see....right well the problem is, as much as 2x10s can move a fair bit of air, they will struggle at a certain point, even the high end models. There are not many manufacturers who make 4 ohm 2x10 combos....but the GK one I put a link to is pretty cheap and very very well known. Not only that, their extension cabs are much lighter than the Marshall. The GK 2x12 combo, which is not listed there but is coming out, IS 4 ohms, and will kick up a lot of air....and the full power of the amp will be going into it. Plus, its very very light. I cant find a UK site, but here are the specs on a USA site: http://www.gbase.com/gear/gallien-krueger-mb-212-bass-combo (note that you cannot use an extension cabinet now....GK made them so they run 500W into the internal speakers). 37lbs (hardly anything), 2x12, 500W, 4 ohm. Job done and actually a pretty damn good amp. If I needed a new combo....unless I had cash for Markbass, this would be it. Info here: http://guitargearnews.blogspot.com/2010/01...ies-combos.html

Withdrawn Custom Matamp 4x10 Withdrawn
Not to make it worse but I'm in Grimsby Thursday and Hull Saturday
OT, and a slight bump, but what you doing in Grimsby?!! My good (ish) old home town hahah. If you are playing....tis a shame as I would have come to check you out. -
I am considering getting a credit and buying another amp from the place I bought this from, I have seen an Ashdown MAG 600 H EVO2 head, what 2x10 cab do you guys recommend bearing in mind my budget is about £250, it requires a minmum of 4 ohm impedance for the cab .
Personally, I think you might be best off with a 4 ohm 2x12..might be slightly more but it will cover a LOT of ground for you. The GK 212 combos are great apparently....very light and loud. There is this as well, the 2x10 version..but again its only a 2x10 so will only do so much. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/gallien-krueg...mp-combo--70248 A really good 'value for money' amp would be one of these (loud and damn good...I used a friends on tour): http://www.dv247.com/guitars/hartke-lh500-...amp-head--49122 And then lookout for a good cabinet (if you want to use just ONE cab, then a 2x12 4 ohm is best IMO, unless you want the added weight/volume of a 4x10.

It is with a slight hint of regret that ive had to sell on some great basses the past few weeks. Originally, I was very happy with my setups, but I found myself wanting different things, and when one of the basschat members said 'why not thin the herd to get what you want' I decided to embark on some serious shuffling about. So far, ive sold my awesome DB212s (8 ohms) and I nearly went for two DB112s, but I got a great quote on a DB212 (4ohm) and it also meant I had spare money to spend on other bits. BUT, the most difficult decision was selling the Stingrays. I have really really looked after those basses. Before the new Fenders came out wit improvements, I was weary of buying them, but now Im a happy owner of three! They aint going nowhere now. The Ps are just perfect, and the Jazz really is that Jazz ive wanted for years, (and is far superior to one I bought from new at a similar price about 7 years ago....which went straight back!) I have been really excited about the Classic Rays for a long time, so one Ray had to go Then, I gave my 5 string yearning a good kick into gear and tested a few more basses. The Ray 5 'works' for me...perfectly. So yet another of my Rays had to go Its very strange looking at my gear to see no Ernie Balls, but thats all change soon Has anyone else had a total change recently? Now I dont own any instruments that are more than about 9 months old. Same with amps but the oldest one is roughly 18 months old, (Orange gear). Massive change, but thats how it is! Now I also think Ive found a suitable workhorse backup bass....Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz....so Ill probably get one soon.

20yr Status Veteran goes all Retro Fender Shocker!
Musicman20 replied to OutToPlayJazz's topic in Gear Gallery
Good choice. Every bass player needs a Precision -
Out of those four, Id suggest a refund and give it some thought. Possibly DI the Bass for a few weeks until you know what you are happy with. There are some stunningly loud and light amps/cabs around at the moment...and some of them are very 'old school' in their tone We can all help with recommendations, but dont blame us if you end up getting addicted to buying this stuff!
As above ^^ I'm still a newcomer here & agree with just about all the comments on this so far, it's just bad manners - I was dragged up proper like - politeness & manners cost nothing but speak a fortune about an individual's character IMHO. I know I'm one of the *old's kool* (best pun on words I've seen for ages) but it's not an age thing although I have to admit the general lack of manners & common decency is perhaps a sign of the times. The forum community spirit is great here, I've already benefited from the generosity of a few members & in return have happily sent small donations to help keep this place running - for every sale I've made + for every 'gift' received. Feedback matters too, especially to encourage new members + just about everybody uses ebay these days & it has sort of become a way of at least making a superficial judgment on a complete stranger! Cheers all, John (Grumpy old gits rule OK)
Feedback is excellent on this site. I really dislike Ebay...always have. I had a massive clearout about 5 years ago on ebay and sold a lot of fairly expensive clothing and shoes that were in really good condition, (£100 skateboarding shoes etc etc). I did make a nice sum of money, and I then had to resort to Ebay to sell my Peavey cabs a couple of years back (purely as I wasnt massively involved with Basschat). If you are selling small low cost items for a little extra money to have a clear out, its a good idea, but I wouldnt buy/sell basses on their again unless I really had to. I just dont like paying Paypal/Ebay fees one bit. I like it on here...nice trustworthy place and decent people all following the same goals...eg a great bass/amp/cab/effects/cables etc etc setup. -
I've played a similar model to this in a rehearsal room with a LOUD punk band about a year ago. It had no lack of volume at all...reminded me of how loud the Trace combos are. Personally, I'd complain again and get them to pick up/refund...

I'm still pondering this one ha ha. I cannot have White pups as it's the hs configuration. As much as the maple looks awesome I'm thinking if sticking with rosewood so I have some variety (I do like both....and playing maple for ages made me miss the rosewood!) I'm edging towards Burst/Rwood/Tort. Classic combo and won't get as mucky! As my other Ray Classic is going to be White/Maple, it seems to make sense...
Yeap - that actually is the picture I took for my introductory thread at the orange forum!!!!! The classical has now disappeared, I've "lent" it to my niece who's trying to start to learn to play! Who are you at the orange forum? Are you musiman there too? Woaw! Thank you very much for all the answers, it's much appreciated - You guys have given me a lot of ideas/directions to explore. Thank you again!!! What is the difference between the warwick corvette and the other models? Say the warwick FNA Jazzman? How do the westone thunder Ia & IIa compare to more modern basses?
Hi! Small world isn't it ha ha! Yeah I'm Musicman20 over on that forum as well. With Warwick...they have a very Warwick tone...but I'd test the neck first. They get a lot of love in general but I for one could not get comfy on the Streamer 5 neck...first fret seemed agessss away. -
It's modern in it's features, but definitely not hi fi! Give one a try...sounds like it might be right for you.

Jees this site is just a GAS station for me.

I'm sure they are pretty damn cheap if you goggle it. I've seen prices close to £250...a bit of haggling works.

It's a great forum but this chap should have thanked you! That was a kind gesture. Hopefully there is a reason...eg he is on holiday. -
haha not a mummy and daddy case, i have played many gigs and saved all of my money and i have also searched high and low for my gear lol
Good on you. Much better than wasting it all on expensive cars with stupidly high insurance like most my mates did at 17/18. Enjoy!

Antoine do you visit the Orange forum? Got to say I love those Orange guitar and bass amps. I think I may have commented on your black PPC212(?) at some point. I have the White version and a Dual Terror. If you can persuade her, the Cv Squiers are very nice....im tempted to get one myself as a backup. My girlfriend used to play bass well before I met her, and now shes interested in learning again. I told her she is free to use my Squier when I get it. Very VERY good instruments for the £250-270 price tag. Olympic White CV 60s Jazz has an ultra fast neck. -
My Classic Series Stingray is all maple neck/board. Not sure whether to go for rosewood with the Stingray 5 for variety. I tested a Squier CV JAzz today and I was impressed! Going to give it some thought on which CV model is best for me then go ahead. Cheers

Overall, Markbass is ultra clean, and very good at it. The RH450 is more like a tube amp, despite it being digital. Cannot go wrong with either, but the TC wins for sheer amount of very useful features.

Soundslive now have Markbass, and quite a lot of it, should you want to test it out (For Conan)
