1. Hmm, now Ive no idea how far to stretch this back! What one piece of you bass or amp/cab do you think is just genius engineering? I think kudos to Fender for the new 08 onwards bridges. They dont look out of place, yet they are a fantastic upgrade. Musicman truss rod wheel of fortune. Speakons. Lightweight amps.
2. Just to help out, these hardcases are the BEST hardcases Ive ever seen/used in my life. Super super strong, excellent latches, great soft interior, and not that heavy. If you are after a high end gig bag, the Mono M80 is really impressive.
3. Yeah, they are advertising them at their peak wattage...which is a clever scheme! Thos Shuttle cabinets are supposedly SUPER nice, but dont crank that 9.0! PS - How are you getting on with the 9.0?
4. Most of them round here have Ashdown. To be fair, Ive had some really good sessions and sounds with the Ashdown gear, and I think its the lower end gear. Then again I have ear plugs in!
5. 1600?!?!?!?!?!?
6. Well, I knew eventually the Jazz would bite me back. I sold one on for my incoming bits and pieces, and possibly to get a rosewood J (Im much happier on a rosewood board now). I tried to put the Jazz off, tried to pretend I didnt want one. Do I need one? No. Do I consider a Jazz to be a bass most players should own at some point? Yes. Why? Sound. So now Im hunting down a 3TS/Rosewood 2010 Jazz. No other colour this time, I want the colour that I think works on a Fender Jazz, which is 3TS. I did find the MIA 2008 Jazz a little skinny near the nut, BUT, Im kind of forcing myself to admit if I want a modern Fender Ive got to have the neck how it is. Nearer the body its fantastic...
7. Er...I dont know any girls that pretty who play bass/guitar. WHY!?!
8.
Rickenbackers. So many improvements can be made and they have stubbornly stuck to a design that has never known an engineer. I think that is where Fender has it, Leo was an engineer and not a musician.
+1 If they evolved Rickenbackers I would own one. In the current state, I just couldnt see myself sticking with it. Re: MM battery covers. I agree the chrome looks nice, but I think the plastic ones with the flip section are much easier to use.
9. The single coil right on the neck on the EBMM Big Al is NOTHING but creamy and thumpy with nice definition, probably because its a single coil and a neodymium pickup. It sounds fantastic.
10. Condition seems a bit of an issue...
11. Just googled this lot...WOW...seriously low prices!
12. Im interested to know the specs...definitely. Colours? Hardcase? Pickup spacing? etc
13. I may have to move one of these on to allow space for new gear. I don't want to really, as for the price these cabinets really are superb. You all know the specs, and you know what they look like. I have the original packaging, etc. Comes complete with an official RS210 cover. These cabinets are light, punchy, and have a great vintage meets modern voicing. Great smooth clear high end due to the dual-concentric placement of the HF driver. This is obviously on a dial so you can have old school thump or a sweeter layer of treble. There is no 'cheap' sounding plasticky tweeter in these cabinets, which is why I like them so much. Immaculate condition, never driven hard. This is the latest cabinet line with the smooth finish similar to the Berg AE line. Id prefer local pickup as just lately im hardly home for couriers, but this can be looked into. £360 all in ONO. I may withdraw this if I can re-arrange my bass gear in a more compact fashion! 14. Keeping this up for one more day...then ill just keep it.
15. I dont really think the cabs are wooly, but ive barely used them. They do seem very loud, very mid focussed (I dont mind that at all) and extremely well built. Those speakers can take a hell of a wallop as well. Crazy to watch how much they move.
16. Much better w/o the plate
17. The other thing to note is that if you like MMs black, red or blue colours, they are selling brand new 2 band Rays for £999 in a EBMM soft case. Im sure you could get one for £950 and have everything new with a guarantee. Im not keen on those colours, plus I wanted a hardcase, so I paid a little bit more for those upgrades. Definitely worth it.
18. Ive always wanted to try these out...seem to get amazing reviews!
19. Definitely try it flat, no filters. Perhaps try the F1/F500 - less warm, more punchy, very 'fast' response. Cabs - Never tried them enough. Their new NY122 is nice though.
20.
Apologies in advance for a slight hijack but I am looking at a few Stingrays at the moment and was wondering if any of you MusicMan aficionados would be able to comment on price for me? I am looking at a 87 Stingray for £1300 and was wondering if this was about normal for an early-ish Ray? seems a little hight to me? Thanks, Nathan
Hmm, im not pre 90s expert, but that seems a little high to me. To the OP, if you can get a nice very clean Ray for £800, (and I mean REALLY clean) then it will hold its value around there as long as you look after it. Original case adds £50 or so as the MM cases are about £125 or something now.
21.
Yep I saw that too, although looking at the dates of posts, I kind of assumed that it was the early units that they were referring to. (Jan/Feb). Surely, if Ampeg had a known problem then they would do something about it by now??....at least I'd hope so.
I hope so! Im sure the warranty will cover it if you get one.
22.
Went to see Steve Lukather on Friday night - fell in love with a MM5. I'm really glad I can't find one for sale anywhere cos I'd be about £2,000 worse off right now. Bassist was Renee Jones.
Im guessing thats a Sterling 5 HH? Trust me, shop around and you can get them for under £1500....brand new Bit of haggling doesnt hurt as well! Ive got my Sterling 5 HS on order and I cannot wait
23. I also looked into these. Nice amps, lots of features. The biggest worry I would have is the amount of people on talkbass sending them back due to failures....not good Ampeg dont make them like they used to.
24. Well, I still want one. But, I really dont need one. I prefer the stylings of the Big Al at the moment, so Im going to enjoy whats coming and leave the Bongo until I get to try one out properly. Im still currently looking for the Jazz bass for 'me', which hopefully will not cost nowhere near as much.
25. The ONLY issue I find on the Laklands are weight and the 35" scale. I find some of them are SUPER heavy....some are not. Also, the neck is super comfy, but my hands got very tired very quickly...but thats probably just me as I have quite small hands. I think Ive realised 34" is perfect for me. But, if you like the necks, the Lakkies are good basses. Again, Ive had bad experiences with their quality control, but that's just whats happened to me.
