1.
hi again so heres the story my friend bought a musicman stingray 5 today thinking its a HH5 but the pick ups are right next to each other like a double buck .it sounds great but will this mod devalue the bass ? because i guess its just a mid 90s stingray 5 .many thanks
Heck.....was it ebay?! That will not be original....check the wiring etc.
2. It is ridiculous/ace, and if it truely is that wattage, and 2 ohm capable, then it will be stupidly powerful as my RH450 outperforms all the other micros Ive tried in terms of wattage and ommph, (honestly rated watts are great!). I would never need such a rig, but If I played for Metallica I would want two.
3. The OBC115 is one seriously nice 1x15. Yes, it isnt anything scientifically outstanding, but the sheer tone and force is there. Ive never played a 1x15 like it. Ive never played a 1x15 with such a nice definition with no horn! It is fairly expensive and it is heavy, but when Ive used mine with my old band, (not used it for a while) I was literally stunned at the amount of force one 1x15 can push. Oh, and it looks fantastic too. Here is a pic with the Bass Terror: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ZZL-Xro...581.jpg&t=1 Part of me wants two for an old school setup. There is a picture of that here: http://www.brusabass.com/gear_files/images/obc115_00.jpg Here is a writeup from the god of gear, Tom Bowlus: Orange OBC-115 - This cab was a bit of a surprise, as I had mostly just played it with the matching 4x10 and the AD200 head. I was really amazed at what a great stand alone cab it makes. Very full, very strong, very tight low B. Great articulation and growl on the low B. Not quite as full on the low B as the HT115, but closer than any other cab, and more articulate and controlled. I found myself just pounding away on the low B for the sheer joy of it. On the E-A strings, it was again not quite as full as the HT115 (and not as close as it was on the low , and again more aggressive and articulate than the Berg. There is no tweeter (and no tweeter sheen), but it offers very impressive high end information, all things considered. It is not as dark sounding as the newer Trace cab, but more balanced, more articulate, and more powerful. On the whole, the competitor that most closely matches its performance is the older Trace 1153. Full writeup and 1x15 shootout here: http://bowlusblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/1x15-shootout.html
4. Personally, for the messing about id start again and just buy a new Peavey cab for about £60-£80 secondhand or £150.00 new. http://www.thomann.de/gb/peavey_1x15_bass_cabinets.html (Not BW)
5. Definitely mint but too much for me!
6. The whole concept of the Bongo to me is just something innovative like nothing EBMM have made before. It is definitely that! Very modern, very versatile, very very very powerful EQ and tone. I quite like the aesthetics, although the Big Al is more my thing (and thats weird as well). If they release more White/Cream Bongos, I want one!
7. Make sure you test ALL of them before you buy. Its hard to recommend a cab as you might have different tastes, but my Tower of Orange is perfect. Heavy? Yes. Massive sound? OH yes. Sometimes a nice big old ceramic-loaded cabinet is the best thing for old school tones. It depends. Berg NV610/412 are options, but expensive.
8. How you finding the Big Al?
9. Be wary of buying without trying or at least hearing and seeing them cab in the flesh. Plenty of cabs and amps seem they would be perfect, but then you find out that for YOU, they are not what you are after. Also, Im a picky so and so when it comes to build quality, so if I were you, at that budget, Id want very high build quality and something that at least looks like it can handle gigging. Its also not always the most expensive option that is the best, which I have discovered with the TC cabinets which replaced a Berg cab. But, then again, thats MY ears thats making the decision. Nice budget to play with IMO. I wouldnt know what to recommend as my Aguilar DB212 cab has a slight mid bump which is great for being in the mix (although its not extreme, its just smooth and punchy). Amp wise? Definitely try the Markbass F1/500 is you want SUPER clean tight tone. Or, you could try the GB Shuttle 9.0/Shuttlemax 9.0 when it lands. You could try the Markbass F1/F500 with the Markbass NY122. Ive tested that rig and its super duper clean. You might find in the end you prefer the slight colouring from some amps and cabs, but again its something Id have a good think about and a good test.
10.
And if i remember correctly Gareth (Musicman20) had to send his back due to a very poor neck heal/joint. Not good for a bass costing that much.
Correct. Massive shame as the neck tint and colours are just beautiful. I never even plugged it in as I knew Id love the tone straight away. I was going to opt for a replacement, perhaps in another colour, but Ive got a very nice and light 2 band EQ Standard Ray instead and it sounds brilliant! I still GAS for a Classic, but this time id 100% go for Mint Green or Coral Red. Although, personally I like the contours and modern upgrades.
11.
I sent a couple of emails enquiries year, but no response.
I have a feeling they get a massive amount of emails as sometimes it takes a day or so to get a response. Usually I get a response within a few hours Definitely give them a call because their prices are fantastic.
12. Definitely worth the trip. Nice shop, excellent selection of gear, cups of tea/coffee/hot chocolate, and great service. On top of that the prices are also great. Enjoy!
13. Quite like the look of these....nice
14.
Spongebob-fest on this thread! Thats so cool about the tour, are you going to go all over Europe/Canada without a spare/back-up though?
I think we will have to....although we are going with another band.... Space is a premium. I dont think im even taking a cab...maybe not even an amp just the Tonehammer or Sansamp as th other band have the backline. Cheers!
15. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b6/tombo...BT_Comboslr.jpg Personally I wouldnt be on the market for one, as the AD200 is IT for me, but cool idea with the combos.
16. Seriously low prices. Mental. Is the CV P staying at its current price?
17. Jees, 800W! Serious amount of new amps coming out this year. I think the Streamliner is on my 'to test' list.
18. Totally lovely. If I needed another 5er, I have to go for this.
19.
How do you know? Shops have much larger overheads.
I understand the idea of larger overheads. BUT, what if we are talking the difference between selling a bass cab at £249 and £235 and the customer is there asking for the match, with CASH, and its a stock item, why not? The problem is, if you dont, some will walk and not go back, when they could actually have a huge wodge of cash to spend. Meeting them halfway can help Online stores have opened the can of worms of 'profit margins'. I have seen some of the profit margins with certain brands and its huge. Not all obviously. But, seeing Fenders for £1000 in a shop in Leeds, and they are generally £850 (this was a year ago), which one will you pick? £1000 is a huge jump. As we all know, Fenders can be great or dogs. An example was when I bought my now ex Ray 3 EQ in Natural. My local store said something like £1100, and a store 30 mins down the road said £1100 including the EBMM hardcase. So, I got it for £1150 without a hardcase but 0% credit for 6 months, and the guy thanked me, and was more than willing to match. In the end, due to the price of the hardcase, it would have been a slightly better deal at the other place, BUT, not enough to mess about. This was over 10 years ago now, before internet shopping took off.
20.
Wrong. Shops work at certain margins to stay alive and pay staff that know their stuff, not shift boxes. I pity you if you open a music store...it will last five minutes.
Heck Pete, I wasnt attacking anyone, I was stating how bad my experience has been with general music stores. Eg, PMT and places like that. No one is wrong or right, its an opinion. Most generic music stores I used to use have very little bass knowledge, eg they wouldnt think twice about putting a Fender on display thats clearly needing a massive setup or return because the neck pocket is so poor. Your bass knowledge is obviously very very good so that would make your store much stronger IMO. The only local place is back home called PPS Music/Pooles which is fantastic, but only because the guy knows me and will always do special prices on Orange gear, etc. No, I wont be attempting to open any kind of business. I looked into it and the stress/cost was far far too high. The market is now fully loaded with great bass shops. I think if anyone did, they would have to concentrate on online prices. I meant no offence to general music shops, Ive probably just had a few bad experiences that put me right off. I do think shops have to match online prices though, as most the time they are online themselves. There is still a profit margin there, and a sale with some profit is better than no sale at all. Plus the customer may come back
21. I think we all realise how dramatically the internet has changed modern buying. The customer has much more power to pick and choose, and EVERY retailer who has an online store NEEDS to reply to emails. Yes, 3/4 of them might not get you a sale, but having deals in writing in an email is MUCH better for me. Plus, it means I dont have to list huge amounts of information. We are lucky to have bass specialists now like Bass Merchant. If we didnt, we would still be buying from 'general' music shops and probably paying silly money for average instruments. Quite a few retailers ive dealt with lose business because they dont match. You dont make as much profit? Oh heck....nevermind. You lose a whole sale? Now you're in trouble. People will always want the best prices, as we are currently fighting against rising VAT and all the other rubbish thats occuring. I much prefer to develop a relationship with a store, buy everything I can from them, and they help by giving me a great price, and I help by recommending them. Certain places like Strings Direct etc, will always have the best strings prices.
22. Was it second hand? You have a warranty with it if it was new. Otherwise, I imagine Proel the dsitributors could help. Im a bit shocked to hear quite a few MB faults recently...very abnormal! Check the lead asap and the speaker lead....and another bass if possible.
23. Or, get 3 RS210s and let the Classic completely blow everyone off the stage Total overkill.
