1.
You also know that's handbuilt from high-end components by a few engineers in West Yorkshire, whereas Orange stuff is made along with all the Ashdown etc. amps in the same factory in China.
Not doubting the Matamps for one moment, (I'd like one myself) but, the main Orange amps (eg not the much cheaper but still excellent Terror series of amps) are built here in the UK along with the cabinets. The Bass Terrors are phenomenal. They sell like mad for a reason: good quality, great LOUD tone, Orange grit, and exceptional value. Yes, they are not UK made, but if they were they would be £800 I guess.
2. Not sure, but it didnt affect the UK models, AFAIK. I think it was literally within a month or so of them being released.
3. I have full respect for Dougie, and to be honest, after seeing some clips of them playing live, McFly are totally 'on it' when the play live. Much heavier, faster, and aggressive than the teen-pop singles. I really enjoyed this years Celebrity Jungle, whereas normally I wouldn't bother watching it. Watched every single moment, and I think Dougie came across as a thoroughly down to earth and nice lad. You can tell he didn't go in there to boost fame; he didn't need to!
4. Hi all As described above. If anyone is interested, these are around £28.95 new (as an example): http://www.stringsdi...el_bass_strings I'd like about £21.00 delivered. Brand new basically, (still has seal on box). Box perfectly intact as well. Completely unused. PM me with any offers, cheers
5. That is stunning.
6.
That's what I have on all my basses some of which worth over 3 grand, Grolsch washers are cheap and they really work no need to mess about with a screwdriver risking to damage the straplock pin thread and all that jazz. You can get them on ebay for next to nought, if you don't drink beer. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item4cf2d3672b By the way, sweet bass you've got there.
My thoughts exactly!
7. Use the washers as suggested above. Unless Im in a high energy band, I hate locking straps....just don't feel right. Seem to clank and click all the time.
8. I love singing, even if its just backing. Nailing a bass line and singing a melody over the lead vocals is something I never thought I'd be able to do so easily until I just did it...and it seemed to work. I think with singing, virtually everyone can sing to an extent. I've met very few people who can't sing. I often have 'frontman' urges. Part of me wants to take it to another level and be a frontman, write a lot more, and sing the majority, because if so many others can do it, so can I! I suggest listening to them a lot. Even if you don't get ALL the words, just going along with them with ohhs and ahhs helps.
9. In this climate I tend to worry if I don't get responses. Surely if its gone past a certain time you can have your deposit back?
10.
A bit like a P bass then :-)
Definitely. As much as my ears grew tired of P basses a few years ago, I still think that tone sits amazingly well, with zero effort. Now Ive had a break from the P for a few months, im looking forward to using it again.
11. If you want a more tube like sound, and want Markbass, that TTE is probably your best bet! However, at £799 i would compare it to the Orange Bass Terror, Genz Streamliner, etc. Can you get to anywhere to test? You could use the 7 day return policy.
12. IMO, unless they are selling the LMTube at the same price as the LM3, stick with the LM3! The tube adds little, if anything. There is a very subtle difference, but personally I prefer the simplicity of the LM3. If you are looking at the £650 price range, check out the Genz Streamliner 900.
13. Every P bass (American I believe) was given the plate in 2011. Its a nice addition, but won't make any difference. If its a nicely made and resonant bass, THEN it may hold a its value quite well. P basses are always fairly good at 'holding' value, but unless you put it away for 40 years, it won't ever raise in value IMO. Enjoy it. The 2008 onwards P basses are the best they have made for some time!
14. That's far too long. I would expect pictures, updates, and a friendly chat once a month if I ordered a custom. Good luck with getting em
15. They are seriously good prices. 550 for a Shuttle 9.0 with gig bag is very tempting.
16.
But how cheap might used ones be once a new version comes out? If the FS section here is anything to go by probably about £575 plus postage
Or more hahaha!
17. Its not 'muddy' to me, its more 'forceful' and very 'full'. Very large bottom end! Very usuable as well (as noted on Talkbass, you don't get speaker stress from that huge low end, its very controlled). I always cut bass to 10/11, mids on 1-2, and treble to taste. Nice amp!
18. Sorry Pete, no links....but it seems that the shops on Talkbass have stated they are selling them cheaper because they are being phased out, so I assume they will be replacing them this NAMM. I bet by late December Genz have some pics on Talkbass. I hope so anyway! Ive been tempted to pick up a 9.0 and leave it at that. Super cheap at the mo. £575 at Bass Direct.
19. Impressive! Great to see Tech 21 are helping out. My BDDI is totally silent, used it for DI'ing, effects, and straight into the board recording and it was all REALLY good.
20. The whole tone of the Streamliner is just MUCH MUCH bigger, and rounder, and fatter. It really is like an all tube amp, but it can do this very very clean with zero grit, if you want that. You can add a lot of grit and grind if you like, but that's just part of the package. You wont have the sparkly/precise nature of the Shuttle, but the Streamliner is stull VERY articulate considering how tubey it is. It just has more bounce and thud to the notes. I'm waiting for the next line of Shuttle's to hit the UK (Im guessing after NAMM 2012) to pick up a replacement for the LM3 I sent back.
21. The LM2 was an industry changing amp. Fantastic full tone. You know what I don't think works for Markbass? Their latest prducts don't seem to build on the innovation very much. In fact, its virtually the same, with a few extras. The F series are great but the F500 is too expensive for what it is. I think they should have put a lot more thought into the LM3...and added a mute/aux in/the better limiter they have on the Momarks, etc. They never did say why they didnt add that limiter, it just disappeared off the spec of the amp. I really want them to get a new LM4, and up the wattage, add the extras, same size and weight, but the same price. Doubt it. I think for innovation, the Genz and TC chaps have clearly now taken the baton IMO.
22. I think that was the goal for the Markbass cabs, hence why some people aren't keen on try outs. They tend to sound good in the mix but a little odd on their own.
23. The combo doesnt have a tweet control, does it? Hmm
24. The caveat to the above is basically alcohol and night out. I would still like to try a Super P.
