I don't understand why they would even think of downgrading the amp of its power/features without still retaining the original model as well?! Bad move Ibanez.

Do any of you Change your Tone for Gigging?
Musicman20 replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
I always use mids to cut through if I need to. A lot of it for me is technique. Some songs sound glorious plucked fingerstyle near the neck, but 75% of the time im biting through playing at the bridge pup with a fairly aggressive technique. Bring in a plectrum for the stompy anthems and its yet another 'tone' feeling. Mids do it all for me. -
(2010/11) American Deluxe Fender Ps and Js - experience?
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I have recently acquired a 2010 Jazz v deluxe (the one that was in Bass Direct- linked earlier in this thread) and I love it. The preamp is quite subtle and allows for easy tweaking of EQ without dramatically colouring the sound - I like this approach as I've always used the preamp to fine tune EQ from the bass after having established the overall tonal shape using the amp. It is also quiet with no mains buzz - I've been put off Jazz basses in the past because of the noise but the N3 pickups do seem to be genuinely noiseless. The pan pot as mentioned in earlier posts isn't really a progressive pan, it is possible to blend the pickups one to the other but the blending is only within a very small percentage of the the pot rotation either side of the centre indent (both pickups together) and almost immediately becomes bridge pickup, both pickups or neck pickup. I suspect this is because it is a passive blend rather than active in order to preserve the option when in passive mode, although why they don't just use the twin volume pot layout of the standard Jazz rather than a master volume and blend I don't know. In all I am delighted with the sound and particularly the look of the instrument, the 70's neck and logo do it for me big time!
Sounds great! -
Bagsy the blonde.

Agree about the temp. Just a low setting on the radiator, so its not too cold, but nothing extremely warm. DON'T put the basses near the radiator....opposite wall if possible. Will all be fine.

Just taken my American Standard P Bass out of its case. Not used it for around 6 months (might have had a tinkle on it but definitely no gigs). Not been tuned for a long time. Guess what? Perfectly in tune. One thing I love about Fender's (the one's I've owned) is how good they stay in tune.

One VERY stunning Dingwall...(shame I can't buy it!)
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
Unfortunately I can't really justify spending that on one bass because a new car beckons, and Im taking a break from buying gear (apart from a new Genz amp in the next few months). If I suddenly came across a lot of money, I'd buy something like this. -
Makes you wonder what they do with the bits that have been sent back?!
There seems to be a very nostalgic, old school vibe in music today
Completely agree.
Question is: Do I really need to upgrade my 12.0 to a 12.2 for the sake of a couple of upgrades? Are the upgrades really worth it as IMO I haven't heard a better amp live yet that's so versatile and light. I think I shall stick to my 12.0 (and save pennies!)
Tough one. Problem is, as new products surface, the old ones drop value on the second hand market which is a PAIN!

None of them have the head that comes out, unless you mod it. Probably a poor choice by Markbass. They should offer it.

From my understanding, the Shuttle 3.0 and 6.0 have the High-Pass filter set so that the low end isn't 'deep' enough to damage the little Shuttle cabinets. Good idea to retain a healthy cab/combo (after all, they were marketed as a combo first and foremost) but obviously if a bass player in a 'fairly' loud band wanted to use the 6.0 with a larger cabinet, the HPF cannot be 'adjusted' as such, (you can click in the LF extension or boost or whatever they call it, but some think that doesn't do the same trick.) so you end up with what some class as a 'thinner' low end. No 'meat' to the tone. For a rock band, obviously this might cause problems. I rely on a full but tight low end, and I tend to cut through when needed with low mids/mid mids, and the higher registers are added more for my benefit if needed. The Shuttlemax 6.0/12.0 and Shuttle 9.0 do not have this built in, the same with the newer Shuttle 9.2, Max 9.2 and Max 12.2 (and they have other revisions to them as well). The Shuttle 6.2 has the revisions, AND it has the high pass filer/low end improvement. So, essentially, it keeps up with the LM3/F500/RH450 in terms of producing a full tone without eating wattage by boosting your EQ. Think that makes sense...ish. If Genz are around (they have been before) no doubt they will help out.

Should I consider swapping my Ampeg SVT for an Orange AD200B
Musicman20 replied to jembullo's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd opt for the Orange, for size/weight/tube grit/UK warranty reasons, and of course, I prefer the tone. But, it might not be worth it if you have the BT. Tough one. -
Does anyone use the Zoom H4N fo live recording and/or the xlr/line in recording option (basically the same as an audio interface)? It seem to tick ALL the boxes, and I wanted an audio interface at some point anyway. Thanks

New rig time.. choices and opinions requested
Musicman20 replied to Machines's topic in Amps and Cabs
Or, if you don't mind the size/weight, that TC BH500 is great but I'd perhaps go for a more expensive cabinet, (the BC cabs are their budget cabs, and I wouldnt personally go for a cheap cabinet). There is also the TC RH450/Classic, and you can add an RS cabinet. Thats more money, but well worth it. -

If you don't mind not having the latest model, check out the Genz sale at Bass Direct. I would pickup a Shuttle 9.0 and trade in your amp/sell it to get the rest for a cabinet. You could get the Shuttle 6.0 12T combo (I bet Mark would be happy to do you a deal on one...but they are currently £799). If you don't want to spend that much, pickup a Shuttle 6.0 and add a cabinet...whichever you like basically. For value for money/resale value/power, the current Shuttle's for sale are very hard to beat.
