2.
This is my 89 'Ray5, its my baby and i loves it!!! My apologies for the dirty state of it, i just taken it out of its case since coming back off my last tour with the band. Question i need to ask is does anyone know if this is an official finish or did the previous owner sand it down and varnish it? lol.
Whatever it was/is, it has a lovely antique-looking finish now. Ray's rule -- 'specially the 5!!
 3. More strings! Aside from the Trace Acoustic strings (#2), I have a set of Tru Bass 88's. Black flatwound. I was going to fit them to another bass and decided not to, but not before just trimming the end of the E string slightly. It went on the bass for about a minute and was removed and put back into it's packet. (These are new-old-stock, unused). 1. Trace Elliot Stainless Steel strings 40-100 gauge 2. Trace Elliot Acoustic Phosphor Bronze strings 40-60-80-100 gauge 3. Bassic-bits 1m. Speakon to Speakon cable 4. Nikkai 6m male speakon/ male speakon cable (x2, brand new) 5. Nikkai 6m XLR female/male Mono 1/4" jack cable, brand new 6. Mikey's bass book (title tbc!) 7. La Bella Double Ball S100L Strings, 040 / 060 / 075 / 095 8. The Incident - Porcupine Tree CD 9. Rotosound Tru Bass 88 Black Nylon Flatwound strings (65-75-100-115) 10.
 4. Phew! Good sequel to the 'British' edition, Jan. (Nice to see my old Ned Callan 'Cody' in that one ). I must admit I recognised only a small number of names in the new 'Latin' edition. Also interesting to note how many more EUB's are in there. So what part of the world is the next edition coming from? Cheers, Steve
 5.
Here's my Stingray. Picked it up in Andertons a few years ago second hand. I sold it earlier in the year on the forum but bought it back when the chance came up.
Nice! What year is it? (Guessing early to mid-90's?). Looks like you weren't parted for too long from it.

 7. Very nice! And great to see the SB-1000. That was the bass to have in the 80's and still looks great today (imo).
 8. A string...
 9.
Btw. I managed to read your thread title as "Do you listen to your truss rod cover?" - I must be dyslexic!
So doesn't everyone hear voices coming from their truss rod cover???
 10. It's also on Gumtree - £150 ONO or SWAPS http://reading.gumtree.com/reading/56/39633056.html
 11. I often will play a lower note on the B string along with it's octave, especially on longer sustained notes, ballads, power ballads, etc. Helps compete with keyboard players too! Ditto for the 6-string and I also like the extra vertical movement option this allows. And of course the tonal range. Plus chords on the 6-string sound great. Main thing is, surely it's one man's meat... Bread 'n' butter, even! So go with what ever you're most comfortable with and accept that -- thankfully -- we're not all the same. This week I will mostly be playing my Stingray 5 and Jazz basses.
 12.
What? You've only got three strings?
Ouch - ya got me there...
 13.
I like both - am I bi-stringual?
...in which case, can I be tri-stringual?
 14. Nice to see the Blade Jazz. I always did like these. I do like the Yamaha TRB's too (4, 5 and 6-stringers) - your 5's look particularly nice. Must admit I'm not too familiar with Cobelens basses but it looks very unique... and nice! All in all, a very nice set-up. I can understand you having a hard time deciding what to play. Did I say it was nice?
 15.
if your wondering why i sold her i bought a beautiful 79" fretless stingray that has completely blown me away, its actually having a new fingerboard fitted by Martin at the moment, she should be finished in about a week.
Wow - Sei no more! (ouch, sorry, couldn't resist! ) That Sei Jazz is a beaut, for sure, but I'd love to see some pics of the 'Ray that made you sell it, once you get it back.
 16. I've played WITH Albert Hall. Nice fellah! Actually, depending where you are on the day, you know October 10th is also the day of the Basschat South-East Bass Bash. :brow:
 17. Mmm - nice job with the scratchplate.
 18.
How about not needing a guitarist? Death From Above 1979, anyone?
Greenslade
 19.
I've just put in the intitials of the name it first gave me and now I'm "Crippled Money McGee" Jeez, this could go on for ever.
Yeh, that works even better. Now I'm Muddy BadBoy Washington.
 20.
Blues name generator. http://www.outliermusic.com/jokes_bluesname.htm Apparently I'm Blind Fingers Jones.
Yo, 'Blind Sugar Jones' here!
 21. Thing is, just about all those names in the OP originate from the US. They have such cool place names too that work when added to peoples names, for instance with Blues players, e.g., 'Mississippi' John Hurt, 'Memphis' Slim, etc. I guess 'Scunthorpe' Bert Higginbottom doesn't quite have the same ring to it!
 22.
I've just checked and it was Total Guitar, Issue 6 May 1995. I have a really bad b&w photocopy of the article. If you have a copy I'd love a decent scan (assuming you have a scanner of course). Wonder if there's a copy on ebay? EDIT - just checked, and there's everything but. Blast.
Ah, sorry, I don't have that particular issue of Total Guitar (I was mainly buying 'Bassist', 'Bass Player', 'Guitarist', 'The Guitar Magazine' at the time). That said, I checked through my old 'Bassist' mags and found a short series that started back in 1995 (Vol. 1, No.3) when they featured 'Guitarist' magazine's 1994 Bass Of The Year, a Sei Flamboyant 6 Headless (this was before 'Bassist' was launched). The bass in question was actually won by a lucky 'Bassist' reader (named in the article - maybe a current BC'er?) who gave a few requirements to Martin Petersen then had to sit back and wait while his bass was built. The series follows it's build across subsequent issues and finishes up with the final review by Roger Newell in the February 1996 issue. Others may well remember this and have copies but for those who don't and are interested to see this series, let me know and I'll scan the various pages and upload the images.
