Nice to see the Blade Jazz. I always did like these. I do like the Yamaha TRB's too (4, 5 and 6-stringers) - your 5's look particularly nice. Must admit I'm not too familiar with Cobelens basses but it looks very unique... and nice! All in all, a very nice set-up. I can understand you having a hard time deciding what to play. Did I say it was nice?

Thing is, just about all those names in the OP originate from the US. They have such cool place names too that work when added to peoples names, for instance with Blues players, e.g., 'Mississippi' John Hurt, 'Memphis' Slim, etc. I guess 'Scunthorpe' Bert Higginbottom doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

Blast.[/quote] Ah, sorry, I don't have that particular issue of Total Guitar (I was mainly buying 'Bassist', 'Bass Player', 'Guitarist', 'The Guitar Magazine' at the time). That said, I checked through my old 'Bassist' mags and found a short series that started back in 1995 (Vol. 1, No.3) when they featured 'Guitarist' magazine's 1994 Bass Of The Year, a Sei Flamboyant 6 Headless (this was before 'Bassist' was launched). The bass in question was actually won by a lucky 'Bassist' reader (named in the article - maybe a current BC'er?) who gave a few requirements to Martin Petersen then had to sit back and wait while his bass was built. The series follows it's build across subsequent issues and finishes up with the final review by Roger Newell in the February 1996 issue. Others may well remember this and have copies but for those who don't and are interested to see this series, let me know and I'll scan the various pages and upload the images.

Off to the vaults now to dig through a few old guitar mags -- unless you or anyone else knows the particular magazine?

Exceptional looking bass, B5! Years ago I remember seeing something on TV that followed the building of a Sei Bass for a pro female bass player. I can't remember the programme or indeed the name of the bass player (Gail Ann...? Yolanda...? Aired maybe late '80s, early 90's? any help here welcomed) but I have to say, since seeing that programme and how Martin Petersen came across even then, Sei Basses have always been my #1 bass to aspire to. Seeing the pics of your Sei Jazz has just further reinforced that aspiration.

I've followed this thread with interest from the outset and have both agreed and disagreed with various comments and remarks though, up to now, have resisted adding my 2p-worth. Ok, so -- for what it's worth -- I've been buying BGM almost from the first issue and will continue to buy it having seen it improve vastly in recent months. I'm also enjoying the latest issue though have not read it cover to cover... yet! However, as has been mentioned previously by others here, I am also still finding typo's and certain other errors that I feel warrant a mention. From the current issue: - Front cover: (sub-heading) "ELBOW Pete Turner on the making of [i][b]the[/b][/i] The Seldom Seen Kid" - Editorial (p.8): Final paragraph "[i][b]recieved[/b][/i]" (note - 'i before e except after c' ) - Take Five (p.17): letter spacing for Jean-Jacques Burnel makes his surname look like Jean-Jacques Bumel! That's all I'm going to say in this regard. Sorry if I'm being picky here. To be honest, I could mention a couple of other more minor points but really don't want this to be a total put-down of the magazine. It was just the above-mentioned 'errors' that jumped out at me and sshouted "Boo!", that I felt should be pointed out. On a positive note, I like the layout of the magazine which has a bright and modern presentation. Well done, keep improving and keep it coming! None of the above will put me off buying BGM which I shall continue to do. Hell, it's all we've got over here! No doubt we'll continue to play "Spot The Typo" too... Cheers, Steve
