1. Lovely. How much?
2.
A standard Jazz bass neck is pretty narrow and if you take off much more wood from the back you may end up causing yourself alot of grief - like playing a matchstick with all the intrinsic strength of one. It might be worth trying out a few different necks to see what you really want before you pay someone to take a spokeshave to your bass. It could also be worth looking at getting an alternative neck which could work out cheaper than paying someone to modify your existing one, but the actual process of shaving down a neck isn't that difficult for someone with a fairly good set of woodworking skills.
+ 1
3. Hi Myles Welcome to the site, lots of useful information here and tempting items in the 'for sale' section. As a dentist, you could always offer private treatment in exchange for gear... See you round, Doug
4. Ah well, this was a nice idea and fun to discuss. Still, on the bright side, is there ANYONE on Basschat not aware of this bass being for sale?
5. If all participants agreed, one way to make these raffles support charity and this forum might be: Seller states his/her total (e.g. £1000 for this Warwick) then 10% of this sum is added (5% going to charity, 5% to Basschat). Now divide by 100 and you have the price of each raffle ticket. (I'm an art historian, not an accountant, so this ^ may be flawed. )
6. I've never played a Warwick but I do like an occasional flutter so count me in. A shame that a charity element can't be figured in somehow but never mind. I'll have a think and let you know if I have a 'Eureka!' moment. Cheers Doug p.s. Ped, any chance of a Vigier in the next raffle...?
7. I have one of these in sunburst - great basses and this is well priced. If I didn't already own one, this thread would now have a great big SOLD against it...
8.
Look up Mo Clifton (cliftonbasses.co.uk) based in Blackheath?
I picked up my Jazz today from Mo who installed my new SCN pups, replaced a faulty pot and setup my bass beautifully with a lovely low action. Fast service (it was ready in 24hrs), pleasant chap to deal with and I'm very happy overall. Recommended.
9.
Look up Mo Clifton (cliftonbasses.co.uk) based in Blackheath?
Thanks for the tip. I'm dropping my Jazz at Mo's tomorrow for a setup and pickup installation -- sounds a nice chap on the phone.
10.
LOL I've already spoken to Mr Thornybank but I'm certainly not going to consider a deal without the ferret - it's in the ad so it's part of the sale as far as I'm concerned!
Is the ferret all original or a reliced aftermarket part though? Check behind the teeth for a date stamp. There's been a lot of "counterferret" goods about lately...
11. Nice. I used to have one just the same. Interesting tone options. You need a good strap too as they're heavy blighters.
12. Beedster's just got a '69 Jazz so may be along shortly... not sure if he needs a ferret though.
13.
Hi, I put my (active) bass through the mic input of an Alesis Mulltimix 8 USB into GB and get great results, the multimix only cost me £45 on Gumtree, use whatever gets you a great sound. Good luck
Cheers for the tip, Brummie.
14. Anyway... back to Pino
15. Here's a new version with roundwounds on the Jazz and a bit of reverb (but still no proper interface yet ). What do you reckon?
16. +1 on the nice comments above - sounds great!
17. Yes, this is fine stuff. Nice to see a band (and the audience) loving their music too.
18. Thanks for the feedback, chaps, much appreciated. Stingrayfan, that sounds excellent. What interface do you use, out of interest? Do you apply compression in GB itself, or beforehand via a pedal in chain? I used to own a BB414: really fast neck on those basses - I even got close to nailing Rhythm Stick! Good point re: strings too - I used some old flats on my recording and they obviously don't jump out of the mix. I'm going to stick some nickel rounds on and compare.
19.
I like it. Sounds pretty good to me.
Thanks mate. I realised afterwards that I recorded the bass in mono - I'm guessing stereo recording, then placing the bass left or right in the mix would be best, right?
20. Ok, here's my first ever effort at recording bass, adding a simple part to an old piano/vocals demo, and using GarageBand. I went Jazz-preamp-Mac (I need to get a proper interface, I know!) so apologies for the sound quality. Any comments and tips welcome.
21. Just found this - wonderful stuff! Congrats to all involved. Any London gigs planned in the near future?
22. That's excellent; the upright sound really works. Out of interest, whereabouts was the rural studio? I'm looking for places at the moment.
23. Nice one, Tom, you definitely rocked out there.
