1.
Unfortunately I don't know and there seems to be no sign or label on them anywhere (just "B" mark on bridge pickup, but I think it stands for "Bridge"). I think they're not CBC though. At least not the modern ones. I had CBCs in my other bass and bottom side looked different. These have copper plate on back while CBCs I had were cast in black epoxy. Also, these have only 2 wires.
ah ok cheers, sadly i don't think they'll fit my Lakland. Good luck with the sale
2. Reckon I could do with a P PM'd
3. Do you know what model the Bartolini's are? i.e. P25CBC - http://www.bartolini.net/information/bass/new_bass_pu_s5.htm Thanks
4. Yup, Shake Rattle & Roll was in our set along with a Latin/calypso flavoured 'Auld Lang Syne'...went well despite how drunk the band was
5. Have a 5501 bump, such great basses. Have just fitted Nordstands to mine and wowsers! Superb necks and B' strings.
6. Yeah awesome bassline, I found myself groovin along to it t'other day
7. Haha my soul ish type band are wanting to do this track and its not cutting it for me, that African groove and feel is hard... I think the slap solo is the easy bit
8. My past active basses never seemed to work that well through my Orange Terror Bass amp...although it accepts passive basses better...to my ears anyhow..and I am deaf
9. Some times playing closer to the neck can give a warmer sound, nice technique, i tend to do that if i'm playing a more 'dubbier' section in a tune. One of the hardest things i find playing reggae music is a good drummer who is solid, a lot of drummers will slow down to sometimes match the bass which can often be behind the beat like old school studio 1 bass lines/riddims etc. Reggae drumming is quite hard to do well in my opinion...i've had some drummers slow so much it becomes painful, Enjoy the vibes
10. I must admit i do like active stingrays, i could never imagine that as a passive although i know some of the old US Subs were passive. It is totally tongue in cheek of course but i don't miss that extra expense of a decent battery
11.
There's something missing in the tone of active basses in my opinion. I can't put my finger on what though. I've had a few actives in my time, from stingrays to shukers and every one has had something missing.
+1, I know what you mean. With the thanks of Kiogon and his brilliant replacement wiring all my active basses are now passive and i much prefer the tone off all. Don't get me wrong i think there is perhaps more immediate bass/treble tone with active...but just not what i like....it often sounds compressed to my ears.
12. Audere Pre amp on hold pending the usual
13. Another loom from John s fitted....sounds absolutely fab, exactly what i was after. All 3 of my basses are now all passive thanks to John's great work & service. Very highly recommended 110%. Thanks
14. Recently bought the Schaller tuners on here but the back plates sadly overlap on my custom built jazz and therefore don't fit shame as they're really good tuners. They would be ideal for Fender/Squire type P or J basses. Would swap for some smaller type i.e. Hipshot Ultralite type and can cash adjust. Or sell for £35 posted (paypal gift or bank transfer) Also have an Audere preamp taken out of my Lakland 5501 as i have gone all passive. I broke the battery indicator LED on removal but i am sure it would be an easy solder repair, however it is not essential. I don't know much about it other than its a Audere Zmode 4 band EQ preamp - I read briefly they're pretty good but i prefer simple passive configuration so have opted for just that. Pretty sure this is the one, http://www.audereaudio.com/3ZB.htm not sure if mine has a passive configuration though - it may have I'm a bit clueless really . The controls are currently set as Vol, Treb, Bass, hi/lo mids (double), Blend and a 3 way switch for the 'Z' modes. £80 posted or may trade - what ya got...would'nt mind a decent envelope filter or compressor, decent strap, double gig bag, some tweeters to fit Peavey 2x10TX cabs, or a jazz neck
15. I think Gong perfected their best sound with Mike Howlett, not the original but certainly my favourite. Same can be said for Ozrics Roly Wynn (RIP).... Fantastic playing
16. Bump for the white one, great bass folks!
17. Just bought a Lakland off John, top guy & top bass. A credit to basschat. All the best, Lee
