1. Working in a lot of psychology/therapy settings I am utilising learned theories to my challenges with GAS over the years. Rather than resist I am trying a harm reduction approach (harm to my wallet that is ) so I shall allow myself to buy & sell still but in between keep my gear for longer periods...thus reducing acting upon GAS. Reduction not abstinence However just bought an acoustic Fender Kingsman.....er! 😂
  2. Interested in any trades (I.e four stringers?)
  3. Having owned 3-4 U.S. Stingrays, 2 U.S. Subs and a Sterling Ray34 I am now the proud owner of the Sterling Sub 4, have been for a while The preamp sucks and is hot in the latter but the playability, of mine at least (Thomann), is one of the best of played...I much prefer the Sub Ray 4 over the ugly, sticky, slab bodied US Sub. However the sound of the U.S. Sub is much better because of the better preamp and of course mostly similar to the more expensive USA Stingrays. So...I put a USA original music man pre amp & pick up in my Sterling Sub 4 and voilà a U.S. Music man Stingray Sound in a bass with the better playability and a lovely jazz width neck. Cost about the same as a U.S. Sub with preamp but I wouldn't change mine, not even for a Ray34
  4.
Lloyd Brevett. Was there anyone before him that had the ska sound? I would say a fair few in the list aren`t really Pioneers, just great bassists who took the sound and genre to a new level. Maybe i am wrong though
I was going to mention Lloyd Mike Howlett for Gong genre

Lots of interest via other forums but none here , anyhow she's still here
  8. Our first gig at a little local festival yesterday with our new traditional ska/reggae outfit "The Bluespots", the crowds seemed to dig it. Sporting the Sire V7 for its first gig too and it performed wonderfully...oodles of bass lows Obligatory dodgy phone footage from someone in the crowd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B1-icY3aZg&feature=youtu.be

  10. I've had this with my Limelight P bass, first time i had used a P in years, generally been a jazz man. I wanted it to be 'just' ok but it sits in the mix in my functions (soul & funk) band really well...sounds boring jamming it on its own but in the band it sits superb. Again playing the same old lines but the band have commented several times this is the best bass yet...hmmm!

Old thread resurrection alert (thus proving some basschatters check to see if the topic has come up here before ) - Anyhow, i am shortly about to pull the trigger on one of their jazz bodies for my 74 jazz as it is way to heavy for regular gigging (i will of course keep the original ash body), quite impressed by their website too
  14. Ahh, nothing like the real thing...looks stunning mate. I'm currently looking for a lighter body for my 12lb+ 1974' beasty
  15.
Limelight gets the closest for my money. FWIW, relics that aren't in the old Fender stylee make my brain hurt.
Yup, another +1. Were Sandbergs around in the 60/70's? Most relics tend to replicate basses of that era I thought- IMO of course. Anyhow another Limelight lover here and the attention to detail is amazingly good, well on mine at least, and having compared it to a 'real' 71 P bass there was virtually no difference between the two (apart from value), the wear and tear, sound & playabilty was pretty much the same too. Don't get me wrong though those Sandbergs look lovely - I just don't get the idea of a relic modern bass that's all - bit like having a relic Lakland Sadowsky etc

Pm'd, replied. Keep the trade offers coming-nothing that's totally floated my boat yet. Will consider Fender Precisions, Limelights, and most Lakland 4 stringers too...or an Ovation magnum would be nice. Could also be interested in a Markbass 4x10 or 6x10 or Barefaced 69er

  19.
I can't believe I have still never played on a rick! I feel this needs to be addressed...
I played on my first last year after 20yrs of playing. I was desperately hoping to not like it...but I did, it was a 74 Ric...thankfully it's lots of money that I couldn't afford
  20. Get yourself a nice beaten up (looks only) Limelight P, they're unique and play like the real thing at half the price.....I was never a P'man personally, but this is my go to bass for gigging with my soul band
  21.
Ive just had an email from Sire (China) to let me know they have just posted two gig bags out to me. Should be here in about a week. Ill get some shots up as i haven't seen much abvout these bags so far.
I'd quite like to get a gig bag for mine actually, how do you go about getting one - and how much? I've been playing my Sire with my reggae/ska outfit and I'm loving it and of course having 5 strings again-ultimate lazy playing for the reggae 😎 - Still can't believe how good these things are ...and I even like the active which is a rarity for me-not even got an incline to change anything from stock. 😀🎶
  22. I drive fast to gigs in my blacked out windows VW Touran...oh and I play a P bass in a covers band, and to seal membership I wear a blues brothers pork pie hat (with real pie) , red tie and red trainers ...innit
  23.
Im looking forward to getting this in my hands lol
awesome score my man, happy daze
