I can't believe I have still never played on a rick! I feel this needs to be addressed...
I played on my first last year after 20yrs of playing. I was desperately hoping to not like it...but I did, it was a 74 Ric...thankfully it's lots of money that I couldn't afford

Get yourself a nice beaten up (looks only) Limelight P, they're unique and play like the real thing at half the price.....I was never a P'man personally, but this is my go to bass for gigging with my soul band
Ive just had an email from Sire (China) to let me know they have just posted two gig bags out to me. Should be here in about a week. Ill get some shots up as i haven't seen much abvout these bags so far.
I'd quite like to get a gig bag for mine actually, how do you go about getting one - and how much? I've been playing my Sire with my reggae/ska outfit and I'm loving it and of course having 5 strings again-ultimate lazy playing for the reggae 😎 - Still can't believe how good these things are ...and I even like the active which is a rarity for me-not even got an incline to change anything from stock. 😀🎶 -
I drive fast to gigs in my blacked out windows VW Touran...oh and I play a P bass in a covers band, and to seal membership I wear a blues brothers pork pie hat (with real pie) , red tie and red trainers ...innit

I've got the white/tort 5. Unbelievable value for the money...just get one when you can. Not only do they look great but they sound amazing too including both passive & the pre amp is the most useful I've ever used...I still think I'm dreaming when I pick it up...it's even got a tight B string on a 34" scale. 🍒
Moondance, I loathe the thing to the point I've never made the effort to play a bass line that even remotely resembles the original.
haha I know that feeling For me it has to be Higher & Higher, bloody RSI central and it bores me to death
As soon as I got home, it started. I've never been so sick in my life. 20 times on the Friday - I was 'under the weather' so say the least! Problem was, we had a gig booked that night. At first, I did the old 'it'll wear off by tea-time'....but soon realised it wouldn't. Had to admit defeat during the afternoon, and tell the band I was out for the gig. It was an hour's drive away, I couldn't have done one ten minutes distance! Upshot was I spent 3 days sprawled across the sofa. No more sickness after the 20 times on the Friday, but just a total lack of energy. I've no idea what it was, or what caused it (some kind of winter vomiting virus?), but it was the first time I've ever been prevented from fulfilling a gig. Bad days!
- sounds similar to my recent experience. Anyhow had some feedback from the brides dad, he asked our singer via email if I had a serious drug problem 😆

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire

Rehearsed with my V7 fiver last night, funk me (albeit reggae action )...bloody awesome - had a huge grin all night, superb tight low B - I actually prefer this over the previous Lakland jazz's that I have owned. Our guitard thought it would cost at least £800+...and I only used it passive...bloody marvelous bass. -

Well the B-stock 5 string V7 is here, slight mark on top of headstock and a little mark that'll probably wipe off at the rear, apart from that..pristine And...wow - someone wake me up!!! What everyone has positively said and then some i'd say...simply bloody marvelous. Lovely neck, build quality is mind blowing, great low B, low action and no buzz, great intonation.... but most of all the tone palette with that passive & active EQ section is really phenomenal - i can get just about any sound i want...jeez this thing is VERSATILE! All this for £280 smackers...still can't believe it - actually it is butter . Think I may have to put an order in for a 4 string eventually. Other great 5's that I've also liked are Laklands & Yamaha TRB's...and nope I wouldn't swap the Sire for one of them right now...if your thinking of putting an order in then do it...thank this thread later -
Anything Spikey, BC Bitch or Flying V's etc...eugh!
Argh ive just seen the b stock 5er.if u snooze u loose lol.i would have ordered it.wow i'll have to be faster next time
I think we were both asleep when they were in vogue. Your not a fellow reggae player too are you? As I'm always accused of being asleep and behind the times 😄😎 -
I've never thought i'd come back to the Precision. One of my first bases was a Squire P and to be honest back then i didn't know the difference between that and many other basses until i started playing Jazz basses, Jazzes did and still do it for me. I've had a few P's over the last decade, Laklands, Fender MIJ's and a JV and both were nice but the chunky necks weren't my thing and i still missed that versatility of the jazz so always ended up coming back to the Jazz. Roll on to the present and enter the Limelight, a 70's P replica with a B style neck (jazz width ish) which suits me better, and actually I gig it the most right now. By far the most boring bass to noodle on in the lving room in my current entourage but for some magical reason the best bass to cut it in the mix in my functions band (soul, funk, 50/60's etc). I still have my, very heavy, 74 Jazz but that is for the reggae band only...nothing quite does that authentic sound that i have learned from the greats, and Redstriper of this parish, of the neck pick up on a jazz...but equally that may be the huge weight of the bass that add's to the resonance. But back to the P though, i get it - i love it,...everyone should have one at least once...and then again if they've not got one now

Laklands are great basses and the 5502 is a great choice, or the 5501 which come up relatively cheap on here. I'm awaiting delivery of the Sire Marcus Miller via Thomann, the preamp in that pays a nod to modern vibes apparently and have a passive back up with tone too...they seem to have a good reputation on here and they cost less than half the price of a Lakland. Never had a bad Lakland though
