Thats just showing off!! haha
Yeah..... possibly right, just frustrated cos i'm only playing bedroom boogie these days !! -
I believe Jimmy spends more time than most getting the right "grade" of woods for his instruments, I guess design wise they're not breaking new ground but i'm sure in terms of his craft he's up there with the best. I quite fancy a closer look at one of these instruments soon.
I know what I'd do mate!! I'd give roger sadowsky or jimmy coppollo a call! The Alleva coppollo basses look fantastic! Plus the build times for both would fit in great with your time scale
A mate of mine has a Coppollo on order..... looking forward to seeing it when it comes Mate..... that UV70 is so good now Dave Wilson has breathed his magic on it that I can't imagine a NYC would be anything other than a disappointment ! If I could be sure i'd get the instrument in time for my 40th (18.09.2010) I might be tempted to go down that route for my Birthday Bass ! -
Hmmmm..... he's not that far away either..... & most of the Luthiers in the UK are

Thanks Guys.... I have to admit that the Shuker and ACG options are stirring some interest.... but i'm a creature of habbit (as you'll have seen from my list of Fenders) Wood wise.... i'm a sucker for Ash / Maple done it for years and it just hits the spot, does that mean I should look at an Ash / Maple custom or look at something that's different.... tough one. My Ash Maple fix is satisfied (and then some) by my Sadowsky I've got a Hankering for Graphite again and i'm considering a Status S2, but (sorry Rob) a Status doesn't feel "special enough" for the occasion. I've only had 1 GB and it was OK..... I've played a couple more and one was Bril and one wasn't that good (or let's say I didn't get on with it) I like the idea of a nice spec Rumour but not 100% sure that's what I want (added to the fact that i've emailed GB a couple of times and got nothing back) I love Overwater..... but I think this bass will be a 4 and when I think of Overwater I think of 5's & 6's Not much further forward in my thinking but it's good to talk this through with you lads, so thanks..... and keep the suggestions / comments coming Mark

OK..... here's a list of my basses (the ones I can remember anyway) Worth noting I only have one Bass just now Sadowsky ! To address some of the points made.... why have I owned so many basses ? Simply because I could Am I the sort to stick to an instrument...... evidence to suggest no, but good intentions to... If my missus buys me a Bass as a 40th present...... i'll have to hand my hat on it won't I ?
Whooaah! Stunning - is that spalted maple (and is this bass a medium-scale)? If this is back in the US as I suspect, it's a bit of a loss for blighty
Bookmatched Spalted maple front, rear and headstock 34 scale..... massive sound unlike my other series II's which were a bit on the thin side

Guys, It's pretty fair to say that over the years i've been a bit fickle with gear...... I've had over 100 Basses through my hands in the last decade a lot of them high end instruments.... My Wife has announced that she'd like to buy me a "Keeper" Bass for my 40th Birthday (September 2010) and this time i'm going to do something i've never done and get one made for me to my spec..... Now that already cuts out another Fodera with god knows how many years waiting time... Most likely also a Jaydee for the same reason..... I guess with the currency impact it's difficult to justify an Alembic these days.... UK builders look like they offer the best "Value" these days...... I'd love to hear your suggestions for a custom instrument, with an idea of build times. Also who's instruments are the most consistently good ? The main reason i've never had a bass made for me is the concern that it might turn out to be a dog ! Look forward to hearing your thoughts.... Mark

Hi Bubinga...... here's your Bass being used as it was intended...... Aguilar DB680 & 728 with a pair of GS410's & a Trace Elliot V8 combo for a bit of side fill (Both Amps feeding FOH with the Trace set up for an overdriven sound) We had a 16k rog FOH & 4k on stage with us...... 1958 Custom Shop Ltd Ed Precision on the stand -
Forgot I had this already on Photo Bucket Apologies for the orientation...... Video taken on a cheapy Fuji Digital Camera
Lesson no.4 in the Basschat Buyers' Guide: "4. If you have a problem with the price of an item on the forum, stating it in an aggressive way on the thread undermines the sellers listing. Often however feedback on fair pricing is useful and constructive. Bear this in mind and be considerate and vigilant. If anyone is seen being aggressive or SERIOUSLY overpricing an item them you are best off sending a PM to the member and to a moderator. The best policy is that if you do not like the price, move on. The seller won’t sell and you avoid any arguments. " Whether you agree or disagree with this guy's price (FWIW i have no problem with it) prob best to PM. I've had someone post on one of my for sale threads telling everyone what the item was worth (and they were pretty wide of the mark) so know how annoying it can be
Yawn....... I know a rip off merchant when I see one !!!

I never post stuff like this...... sorry but.... 3 people passed this instrument on for about a Grand - I've owned it twice and was the original buyer at £2100 !! I think it's pretty shocking you trying to flip this for £600 profit on this forum, (IMO) if you want to make a profit on it put it on Ebay and show some respect for people who use this forum as a way of trading with some integrity among friends sorry just my opinion mate,
MB1. Steady on Mark!...that'd make me Poor Twice! Mr king thought hed be getting the Alembics for Nothing!...
Hey up Martin..... you've had the Real Deal, you know the score Apologies to OP..... The Pangborn in one of the only basses i've wanted to own but never have..... Livin it up, Livin it up !!!!
the jaydee sound pissed all over the alembic sound end of... pangborn was cool too!!! good luck with the sale man, wish i had the money i would have it in a flash x
I admire conviction in one so young..... however I base my opinion on owning 8 Alembics and 5 Jaydees, and it is MY opinion, not a statement of fact, I do not presume to confuse my opinion with fact, nor should you.

Try DR Hi Beams, all the brightness of the pro-steels with more mid range and a bigger fundamental Nice under your fingers too as they are medium tension even with 45-105's When I used to tune down I used Ernie Balls, felt the same as DR's in standard tuning

Hi.... i've heard a 750 through a HS410 and it's awesome..... also heard it through a pair of HS210's same if not better !! However, i'm now using SWR cabs (Goll III & SOB) and it's killer...... A really good match for the 750's grunt. Adding an EBS MultiComp to the equation just makes it perfect !
Whats important if you are gigging is not so much the sound on stage but the sound the audience hears. Jazz basses tend to get lost in the mix but I've had so many good comments about the RBIV's tone and its ability to cut thru and be heard.
sorry...... can't let that one past Jazz Basses lost in the mix ? Can't say i've ever found that to be the case, either on stage playing or mixing Last time I saw Geddy Lee I heard him pretty clearly !! Adam Clayton get's heard OK Last time I heard "BossHog" play his 66 Jazz live in a club against 2 guitars he cut through like a hot knife through low calorie spread
