Simply the Best Jazz Bass i've owned...... Blows the nuts of a couple of Fender Custom shop 1970's i've owned (Tone Playability and build) Better than any NYC Sadowsky i've had my hands on.... Much improved by having the neck finished in the silkiest gloss you'll ever caress !! 100% recommended to anyone after the best in Jazz Bass tone (Chris is also a legend - kinda goes without saying) ATB Mark

Ever noticed you don't get many up for sale ? Great to add some modern active sounds to a passive Fender for example....... but for me it's the quality of the DI that really shines

I have to say Chris..... not my experience with Guitar Guitar, they do move stock between their 3 branches (common sense) and have always (IMO) carried a decent range of Bass gear for a non bass specialist retailer. Steve the Manager is a knowledgable and friendly guy who knows the industry and the Bass scene really well for a Guitardist as for his Staff George (ex Manager of Sound control) is his Asst Mgr now and i've always found him really helpfull in both stores.
Why have you chosen Nordstrand?
Good question....... I like what i've read about them and i've never had them in a bass..... I like the "double Jazz bass" configuration of the Dual coils and their physical size, both for appearance and for playing over. Also..... they're reassuringly expensive and i'm a Bass Snob !! Well....... it is my Birthday !! Thanks for the Advice so far guys....... please keep the comments coming ATM.... i'm leaning towards the East pre ATB Mark
The ACG02 is a superb piece of kit as is the U-Retro. Both very different and equally good on my Spectors. No experience of either on passive pups though. Is that a magic 40th birthday pressie?
Yes that's the one......

Hi Guys, considering the spec for my custom build "Birthday Bass" I'd like to have the Nordstrand Dual Coil pickups installed but looking for some ideas for a suitable pre-amp Advice welcome..... ATB Mark
I found a set of DR sunbeams that i bought ages ago lying around the other day so decided to put them on my Jazz, Gotta say they sounded good but ive had one practice and one gig and they seem to have lost their shine already. I'll be sticking to D'addarios and Elixers thanks!
I've never found DR's quick to go off...... quite the reverse actually. Although lately they've stopped shrink wrapping the outer packaging which I've noticed affects the brightness out of the box ATB Mark

I briefly owned a Headed Stealth..... thought it sounded Sterile and thin, simply impossible to get a usable tone out of it in a band, and I was using a Big Eden Rig (WT800 and a pair of 410XLT's) The S2000's i've had had a lot more Balls to the tone. Had a good few S2's and they all sounded different..... some Very good, some just OK, but all "Bigger" and carried more weight than the Stealth. Hope this is of some use Mark

Level 42 are without a doubt one of my favourite ever Bands, Their first 2 Albums are a big reason why I play Bass. If I had to name one track it would be True Believers, best Status sound i've ever heard - Iconic (IMHO) ....I do believe Capatain Bassman's avatar is my old Jaydee 25th Anniversary !!

Having used just about every 410 out there I have huge respect for what a SWR Golliath III does live

Guys..... Photo of Vic I took at the corn exchange in Glasgow a couple of years ago Taken with a Song T8 compact

Too much gain on the mic channel ? Get the singer to sing closer to the mic and use less gain..... ?? ATB Mark

Guys.... In 1986 I walked into a ropey little music shop in SUnderland called "Symphony Sound and Lighting" looking for my first Bass with my dad. In there was a (badly) beat up sunburst Fender Jazz. I tried it out because it was the cheapest in the shop and my dad only had a hundred quid to spend !! We haggleg with the guy in the shop and got it to a hundred quid. We but pushed a little harder to get a set of strings thrown in. The guy took a phone call about a pa hire..... lost interest in selling the bass and we left bemoning the poor customer service we'd experienced ! Later that day we took a train ride to Newcastle where we visited "Grott Guitars" and I became the proud owner of a Jedson Fretless, my first Bass guitar !!! Only later did I realise that we'd turned down an early 60's (most likely pre CBS Jazz) for a hundred Quid !!
