Do you think there might be a problem with penetrating damp?

The bass was put together by a fellow BCer, he put a post up about it the other day. EDIT: Here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/238919-holy-cow-another-bat-bass/page__fromsearch__1

I didn't catch the Later With Jools broadcast featuring Arcade Fire a few weeks ago and iPlayer doesn't have the content but happily YouTube does and this is my favourite track off 'Reflektor' http://youtu.be/48_XcWSWNmc Spot the tasty red Fender P bass I think if I could party with any band post gig it'd be these guys!

That's a really nice, slick site

I've got the amber/maple Squier VM P bass and though I've never tried any Fender P basses I'm very happy with it. There's a review on the Fender website where a Squier owner says it plays better than his favourite Fender '58 P bass that he owned so he sold that to a friend and happily pocketed the cash... http://www.fender.com/squier/series/vintage-modified/vintage-modified-precision-bass-maple-fingerboard-amber/

To the OP - have you come to the conclusion that what you currently do with your bass playing is self-serving, that it's become an indulgence for which you've developed a guilty conscience? Rather than giving up playing you could turn the entire thing on its head and offer your services to other young aspiring bass players and become a TEACHER. What was once an indulgence then becomes a service to others. It's a bit like spreading the good word isn't it?

Nearly forgot, welcome to Basschat! And by the way, that TE combo must weigh some!

You prayed and nothing told you to continue... but has anything told you to stop? I'm not belittling your beliefs but do you need to ask for permission or reasons to continue all of the other things that you engage in on a daily basis? Why is it wrong to continue playing? If you have a gift then wouldn't God rather you used this gift than deny its existence?

No tone or volume control would be just like that Fodera Anthony Jackson singlecut model
Hi guys. Mark from GAK here. Thanks for the (mostly) great feedback. @damonjames - Drop me an email at with your order number. I'll have a look at what's been going on and see why you've had poor communication from us. As for the issue of delivery to Scotland, I've been aware if this for a while and have been pushing to get this standardised with the rest of mainland UK. As of today (thanks to the power of Basschat) we're now offering free delivery to Scotland on any purchase over £99! Good work everyone. If you've got any more feedback that you think might be useful either leave it here, DM me or email me directly at the address above.
Another thumbs up for this response! Nice to see that we've got a helpful Basschat member in place at GAK -
I'm guessing the 4 speakers are currently wired all in parallel to give a combined impedance of 8ohm. If you are replacing the lot, you just need to find a set of suitable 8ohm units, which will open up your options considerably. You would then need to wire them series/parallel to give an 8ohm total load.
+1 to this, I know we usually think about only wiring in parallel but this option should definitely be considered.

Yep great bass indeed, I've got the same model, bought from a friendly guy on here (waves to theyellowcar above) and I've got it playing really nice. Enjoy and happy NBD!

Ask them if they've owned the guitar from new and do they have the receipt? In return offer them a 1956 Fender Jazz bass...

I don't think there's a definitive set of dimensions for the various C, D, U, V or whatever else letter is used to characterise the profile. Neck profiles have varied slightly over the years so widths and thicknesses change, possibly in response to demand (people wanting thinner, or chunkier, or wider, or narrower necks) which is why some prefer old basses from a particular era (or new instruments built to conform to the dimensions found in basses from that era).

Bridge Cover Problem Modern Player Jazz
HowieBass replied to mr eliminator's topic in Repairs and Technical
Depends how thick the baseplate of the high mass bridge is, sometimes you can have the saddles all the way down with no travel left in the height adjustment screws and not be able to get the action low enough so you'd have to shim the neck to raise it; some high mass bridges are set into a slight rebate in the body. It all depends on the bridge in question. -
Someone I used to hang out with told me she suggested the Pictures riff to Death In Vegas guitarist Ian Button when they were dating and that's why Rossi earns a song credit for Death In Vegas's 'Scorpio Rising'. I took this with a pinch of salt at first because she also told me she'd been photographed by David Bailey which I didn't believe... until I saw the prints with his name on them!

It never would have happened if you'd played 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men'

Bridge Cover Problem Modern Player Jazz
HowieBass replied to mr eliminator's topic in Repairs and Technical
Assuming the bass is correctly intonated then the saddles have to stay where they are in relation to the speaking length of the string. You'll only be able to move the bridge forward a little to take up any slack in the intonation adjustment screws. Probably a better move would be to find a smaller bridge, like the original Fender 'bent bit of tin' bridge which will likely take up less room (but obviously the saddles are going to remain in pretty much the same place as they are now on the existing bridge). -
I think it keeps moving the song along in what would otherwise be far more of a dirge, it's the only really lively bit when you listen to the arrangement. Without such a busy bassline it'd be quite different in mood, though the brass section at the end also reflects the movement of the bass.

Count the number of turns you make to each pickup height adjustment screw and maybe do a single turn each side then see how tone and playability are affected. Keep counting the number of turns you make as you adjust height in case you want to go back to the old setup. I think you'll notice a slight change in volume more than tone but that shouldn't be a major issue (you just turn your amp up a bit more).

Does it actually matter as long as both speakers are wired the same way (so that they're in phase with themselves)?
-
When I saw this performed on Later With Jools I thought 'why have they become an electro-pop version of Madness?'

Should the one you're after not work out then consider Corts as well (they make a lot of basses for other people too). They're great quality and value for money and if the shape doesn't put you off then you might like the new Cort Curbow 42 and 52 models - Dan Veall likes them http://youtu.be/fiU4ZWdOShE
