1. Yeah this abomination was spotted by another BCer and suitable comments passed in another thread. Still up for sale eh? Quelle surprise!
2. I have a vague recollection of you saying you practice playing unamplified or at low volume... if so then this might have some bearing on your right hand technique. The old adage of 'let the amp do the work' is relevant here, if you're having to put a lot of effort into hitting the strings in order to hear yourself then this might be where you're going wrong so to speak. Turn the amp up or listen via headphones and use the tips of your fingers to strike the strings, not the fleshy pads (calloused or otherwise) and hopefully you'll get a more even sound from finger to finger and you'll also probably be able to play faster runs.
3.
One mans pro setup is another mans unplayable junk
That's why I'm happy I can do my own; I set them up the way I want them
4. When you play try angling your fingers back towards the bridge a little, so they're not perpendicular to the strings. With them at an angle you'll minimise the length difference and hopefully you'll have a more balanced sound as the index and middle fingers hit the strings more evenly.
5. I'm not sure what you need doing but if it's setting neck relief, action and intonation then they're pretty straight forward once you understand what's involved - changing strings sometimes demands that relief and intonation be adjusted so it's worth getting the hang of this if you can
6. The magic's gone, sell it.
7. If you buy that special edition Adam Clayton Fender Jazz does it mean you can only manage to play bass lines from U2 songs on it?
8.
A question possibly related to this: I have a Genz Benz Shuttlemax 12.2, which incorporates two power amps with a separate output for each: Power Output - 375W/8 ohm x 2, 600W/4 ohm x 2 I run this into two Baer ML112s (8 Ohm each). Will there be any difference if I connect one Baer to each power amp output, and hence use both power amps at 8 Ohms each, versus daisy chaining the Baers and presenting 4 Ohms to one of the power amps, i.e. just using one power amp? And if so is one approach recommended over the other? Cheers!
I'd be inclined to make both sides work equally hard by having them both run a single 8 ohm cab and in theory it'll be a bit louder (375+375=750 watts) than daisy chaining the cabs off one side (600 watts) assuming of course that the cabs are happy taking all that power (though I imagine it'd be bloody loud and you'd give up before the rig did).
9.
Are we talking harmonics that are still lower than the fundamental frequency of the square wave, but which could be pushing the tweeter beyond its Xmax, even though the woofer may be quite happy?
I think he means 'harmonics that are lower in volume than that of the fundamental frequency of the square wave'.
10. The fretless Squier VM Jazz is reputed to be a decent instrument, has a lined hardwearing ebonol fingerboard, they come up for sale on here from time to time - not sure if this one's still going http://basschat.co.uk/topic/232924-fs-squier-vintage-modified-jazz-vmj-fretless-now-l180/
11. Fender Rumble V3 500 head has Genz Benz derived innards, costs about £375 new.
12. I enjoyed 'Cider With Roadies' by Stuart Maconie http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cider-With-Roadies-Stuart-Maconie/dp/0091897459
13. I wonder if it would be worth having a push/pull volume pot where you could bypass the internal preamp and switch it into passive mode direct to the output jack since you like the sound you're getting?
14. I like those patterned pickguards - a nice alternative to the traditional tort patterns.
15. Lots of feedback here on Entwistle pickups, the JBXN are high output and reputed to have a lot of mids available http://basschat.co.uk/topic/235314-entwistle-bass-pickups/page__hl__entwistle%20pickups
16. I have a stacked knob Jazz on my most wanted list haha! And good luck with the rewiring work!
17. Now I've got the fretted neck back on my Westone Spectrum LX (a PJ configuration) and got a decent set of roundwounds on it, I've been able to compare the Magnabass split P format pickup on it with my Squier VM Precision that arrived wearing a set of rounds too and they're sounding very alike (out of curiosity I happened to measure the distance from 12th fret to middle of the pickups on both basses and it's the same). This came as a nice surprise seeing as the Spectrum LX has lots of additional tone options to play with, so what to do with a set of Fender flats that I'd taken off the Westone? Well they've gone on the Squier VM P and I really, really like the sound - totally suits the instrument with its no nonsense passive tone control and not as thuddy as I've thought flats have sounded on other instruments (I'd had flats on a Jazz copy many years ago and wasn't impressed). Definitely rounds for my Jazz but flats are staying on the P bass!
18.
And no-one at all can make a full time living out of creating music unless they already had a foot in the door by the end of the 90s.
I wish somebody would have told this to One Direction!
19. I think a dual concentric pot would offer greater flexibility than the situation where a tone control is fully open or closed and it still only needs one hole in the body/control plate.
20.
What a nice glimpse into the past, and not just of guitar manufacture. Interesting to note that those sought after vintage guitars are in fact largely Mexican made, too!
I thought the same thing seeing those surnames and I've noticed similar names when people have checked vintage necks and bodies for signatures and dates - I wonder if many owners on here have basses made by those exact people shown in the film?
21. I believe the Fractal Audio Axe-FX II is okay for bass. You'll want the massive matching MFC-101 footswitch controller. That'll cost you about £3,000. Start saving. Or you could just get a more conventional floor based multi-effects unit like a secondhand Zoom B9.1ut. You can't rack it unfortunately. It'll cost you about £100. There have been a couple for sale on here.
22. I'm trying to remember how I used to find out about small club gigs (in the Manchester area) back in the 70s and 80s before the Internet and social media came along - very probably by spotting flyers up in record shops and adverts in music and local press. You actually had to put some effort into finding out what was happening, so when you stumbled across something really interesting, you felt well rewarded. In this current era of increased publicity for all manner of things, it now seems to make bands and music scenes feel less exclusive than they used to be and somehow less valuable by virtue of their ubiquity. Things certainly ain't what they used to be (thinks about the girls of the punk era) *sigh*
23. It's resting!
24. If you have an old credit card you might try that instead of a razor blade.
25. I think we're due a few pics here
