1. Theres a lovely CS with rosewood board in guitar guitar Camden - it's actually the bass that made me realise just how awesome CS basses are when i was buying but it's very pricey. If you want to keep it under a grand but still vintagey you should just get mark at limelight to make you a custom one.
2. Are you leaving the input plugged in all that time (between practicing/overnight at home etc...)? But yes - get a PSU, don't want to risk that at a gig...
3. So don't.
4. I'm sure we all know why the prices jump (it shall not be named) - they can't change the dealer price every day to reflect the fx so they absorb the difference & bump it periodically instead, this does make it look like a big jump but really you should spread it across the period since the last hike. If you want new american stuff buy sooner rather than later as the prices are only going to go one was for the foreseeable future. Saying that, I would still try the Mesa - if you like it going into a smaller independent music shop will yield better results in haggling (assuming you're half decent at it). I wouldn't mention the old price, I'd just offer what I thought was a fair price & go from there (that fair price could be the old price if you think that was fair). Even the managers at chain music stores are just slaves to the computer - the smaller the shop, the more wriggle room there is in pricing.
5. I'm another one that would suggest looks at different cabs - if you like the TH sound then by all means get the amp but I found the cabs to have a loose bottom end & to be a bit muddy. They are built well & look nice but I think there are better cabs out there especially given how much the SL112s cost! But we're all different & you may love the way they sound so take all this with a pinch of salt.
6. What's your budget (ish) - there are plenty of decent amps out there at the moment but the prices do vary a lot!
7. As said by the others TI's are really the go to low tension flat strings - I didn't find them super flappy when I had them on one of my basses, I'd say they were similar in tension to earnie ball rounds. I've got some mystery flats on my P at the moment (they were on it when I bought it used & the selling shop didn't know what the previous own had put on it) - they're substantially higher tension than the TI's but I'm getting used to them, like the feel & they sounds great. They're black silk at the nut end, nothing at the bridge end if anyone knows what they are?
8. You've been on a right spending spree in the last couple of months! Vanderkley do make nice looking cabs, I'll give 'em that!

New U-Bass day

Tbh I've found acoustic basses & ubasses to be a complete waste of time for anything more than home noodling - there really is no [acoustic] substitute for an instrument that's bigger than you are!
10.
Is exchange rate also not part of the reason for the price rise?
Always! But let's not talk about it in case mummy & daddy get angry about the naughty politics chat.
11.
Olive/maple may be a goer soon
Good choice - that'll be a lovely bass!
12. Why do people keep bumping random old threads at the moment? Is the forum sorting threads backwards for some people?!
13. I don't own one but I played a couple in my quest for a new P-bass: They are nice basses - the name & slight spec change was really just Fenders way to bump the price of the American Standards. Are they £300 better than the American Standards? Probably not but once all the cheaper American Standards are gone then the "Professional" is just going to be the go to bass in that price range, quality basses that do the job well. An Olive green with maple neck (for me) Precision from this range would be a lovely bass to own & you'll forget about the extra couple of hundred quid after a few months.
14. Damn - I wonder if I can fly back from my honeymoon for a gig without getting into too much trouble?!
15.
...I find it surprising that other builders have not thought about it. Less work to do in preparing the fingerboard as radiusing is pretty labour intensive.
I'm sure they have - the radius board weren't just made up at random. Some people do like a flatter board but i image more people like a curve, which is why 9.5 is so popular.
16. May as well add the TKS S112 to the "to try" list - relatively small footprint when stood vertically & only weighs 10kg. They don't have the outright volume of some of the other cabs mentioned but arguably have nicer tone. They can look pretty too.
17. Flipping heck there are some decent bits in there - might have a little dabble on a few things next week, time to clear the diary!
18. When I've gigged with my acoustic bass (well electro-acoustic) I've always just used a DI box into the PA as these gigs have always been acoustic singer song-writer types & there's always a small PA for the vocals to go through - as they're low volume gigs even small PAs can take a bit of bass going through to bring it up to acoustic guitar volume. But I've used a normal bass amp at home loads of times - there shouldn't be anything wrong in just using your normal rig. If you're worried about bass amp volume I'd look at angling your cab so it points diagonally up or putting it on a stand so it's closer to ear height - 210's are pretty low even stood on their end so maybe the bassist just couldn't hear because the sound was being blasted at their ankles.
19. Well yes - it just turns into everyone listing what they have. I'd go barefaced 1x10 (lots of people like these) or tks s112 (predictably what I have) for the cab then pick a class d head that suits your stylistic needs.
20. 1st - Fretboard radius has no bearing on action height/buzzing & choking. So that's not really a factor here. 2nd - I get what you mean about the different string heights relative to each other - I noticed it more on a 7.5 radius neck but I guess it's still there on a 9.5. My Warwick is a 12" radius I think. It certainly makes a noticeable difference though you'd have to try to decide what's best for you. I actually preferred the 9.5 but each to their own...
21. In a choice between the fenders & markbass the fenders would win every time for me - I thought the markbass sound crap when I've used them (could just be me though). Tbh if it were me I'd get a small cab & head - so many more options for equal size/weight!
22. Live set-up for my Hard-rock/metal band: D-tuning bass - Fender Custom Shop '57-RE Precision w/flats B-tuning bass - Warwick Corvette Active 5-string w/rounds TC Electronics - Polytune Dave Hall Amps - VT1 EQ/DI mk2 Warwick Sonic III amp TKS S112 cabs x2 I do noodle around with other bits for recording or other music contributions but that's the main gear.
23. Touche Amore at the Islington Academy a couple of weeks ago was completely the opposite - you could hear every single flick of the pick, I've never heard anything like it a a gig before! The sound guy must have been a bassist but even so it was just an incredible experience!
24. This thread is a prime example of why it should never have gone to a public vote in the first place - people just don't/didn't understand the consequences of what voting to leave actually meant and most people don't really understand how global financing works. I'm not trying to be harsh, I include myself in this too - you'd need several high level qualifications & years of experience to fully understand it and even those people don't really know what's going to happen. If we're being ripped off by anyone, it's by the government & politicians who are paid to make these kind of decisions for us in the best interests of the country - not promising a referendum that they wrongly thought they could win just to appease their critics within their party in a pathetic attempt to retain their personal position of power for a short period of time at the risk of the whole county's finances & the cost of bass strings!
