1. I really can't get to the bottom of the notifications behaviour. I've got over 17,000 of them in my inbox! Hopefully now that we have some money coming in we can purchase the forum platform upgrades and pay someone to install them
2.
Im with you, I have been using the Thomans Starville led par cans now for years and they have been great. i use 4 per side with a behringer dmx controler as the starville dmx master 1 packed in. lots of good reasons for getting them, power saving .. if you use the old par bulbs 500w even 1000w each thats alot of power to use on the usually limited sockets at a venue the bulbs are almost wasted anyway unless you have something for the light to fall on so a fogger or a hazer will help the lights make the show. the great thing about the dmx controllers is you can program each song, worth spending a bit of time to get to grips on Just test/try on one song see what effect it has and befor you know it your hooked, and add other bits along the way the dmx bars are very handy very quick to set up, all wiring power and sig is internal. And a big plus is they are light,( excuse the pun ) so hamster if keep your eyes out on ebay you can get some gooood used deals, i went for these.. http://www.thomann.d...ar56_10mm_s.htm http://www.ebay.co.u...=item460de6b46b i know £204 x2 is alot for lights then fogger and poles, but as said keep your eye on ebay. i got a real good deal eg my controller as above for £35. PS,,,, another great investment if using lights, to get the best out of them get a black back drop ! ! worth the effort.
The cash I can do - but that's a shitload of buttons to press on a DMX controller!
3.
I gave up using the search engine on this site ages ago, in favour of using "site:basschat.co.uk" in a google search.
I have to agree Pete. The engine that came with this version of the board sucks compared to the last one. We're currently saving up to buy the next raft of upgrades and pay our webdev to install them - and then hopefully 'search' will work properly again!
4. Odd. When I searched from my desktop I only found a couple of hits, but searching via my iPhone I found several of the ones you allude to? Well if anyone else wants to chip in, there may be some new stuff out that wasn't mentioned in previous threads
5. We're thinking of retiring our rattling and heavy stage lights for some of them new-fangled LED spots. We wouldn't have much use for a full blown DMX console controlled system, probably just 3 lighting poles with 4 spots on each. I've seen some LED lights that are pretty weak and feeble and some that look pretty good. What do you guys recommend; first for a tight budget and then something a little better for not too much more?
6. @potential buyers The OP hasn't logged on here for weeks so don't hold your breath!
7. I can't duplicate the problem with my browser (chrome) and so I'm a bit jiggered to fathom how to fix it for you
8. Well I consider myself well protected by firewalls and AV software but then again that's not my field of expertise. I'm always happy to receive recommendations as to what is good and what is not so good. Yes, the forum was hacked by someone much cleverer than me and probably cleverer than you, but this was not due to a lack of security on any of the Admin's PC's - it was caused by an exploit in the forum software that was beyond our control and has now been patched by the software designers. We've had very very few reports of spam suspected of being sent out due to that hack. I'd imagine if a database full of email addresses was downloaded then they would have sent spam to every single address on it, and that clearly hasn't happened. I get spam every day - even though I really don't need viagra (honest!) and it really doesn't bother me
9. Hey all Due to a sudden influx of scammers who send out dozens of scamming PM's I've put a flood control on the number of PM's that can be sent in a 24 hour period to try and slow down their activities. Limit is now max 10 PM topics per 24 hrs, and no more than 1 new PM topic per 5 mins. You can still chat within a PM as much as you like This will affect all members as there's no other way to do it. I'll take the brakes off after a couple of days if it becomes a real problem to PM addicts! Hamster
10.
Minor oddness. When I go into FX for sale, the Marketplace T&C's appear as a huge post, immediately above the pinned threads. This does not occur when 'penetrating' some of the other sale mktplc sub-forums. This development might well cause distress to the young, the vulnerable and the elderly. Please address this or I shall be forced to instruct my solicitors.
I did that as a test to see if it would help raise awareness of the new subscription based marketplace and the necessary changes in the T&C's. Well spotted Sir!
11. I just did a test post with a test account - no issues - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202347-test-stuff/page__view__findpost__p__2010091 Try and clear your cache & cookies, cold boot and try again maybe?
12. It worked for me first time? - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202347-test-stuff/page__view__findpost__p__2010091
13.
I`ve paid my £20, but posted an item for sale yesterday, and although it was shown on the front page, not only could I then not get into it, it doesn`t appear on the for sale listings either. Bah.
That is odd. There's no trace of an unapproved or deleted thread made by you. Did you post the ad and then pay - if so how long was it before you paid? Ta
14.
I take your point, because you generally have something intelligent to say. But leaving aside Inti/Antiloco/Atalante's playing skills, which, IMO are not germane to the issue, I felt that he was very much a second-class thinker. The Art Vs Commerce thing has been done to death, so what did Inti bring to this hoary old chestnut? Just the constant riffing that no person could differ from his opinion were they not themselves an accomplished 'Artist' and - presumably - wedded to that viewpoint by predisposition and / or career choice. Utter tripe, when you think about it. You'd get better from an intelligent 8 year old. I may not be accomplished enough a bassist to comment with insight on Inti's playing skills, but as a debater of propositions, he was either a cack-handed fraud with a grudge or out to troll. Whichever of these, he may not have been a clown whore, but he was definitely an attention whore, a subject upon which I may speak with certainty.
Sir You are Bertrand Russell, and in compliance with your column in 'Dirigibles Spotter's Weekly' I claim my £5 guineas.
15.
Yes, the [s]mob[/s] mod has spoken!
Fixed
16.
I'm also generally jibbering nonsense this eve
Ummmmmmmm - an embryonic moderator methinks!
17.
Hi, No problem with the charge at all especially with the fixed yearly fee. Having just seen my ebay fees for the previous month £20 is a bargain. Just wondering what will happen with all of the goods currently advertised, can they be bumped forever or will they have a finite life ? Presumably the mods will remove any Fodera's advertised at £49.99 + £5000.00 postage.
The pre-subscription items advertised for sale can carry on being bumped as it would be unfair to introduce the subscription retrospectively. I would be looking though for activity from the seller with bumping within the guidelines. We will be watching for sale threads where a pre-subscription Fender becomes a post-subscription Musicman! - All the Moderation team can see all previous posts - even if they have been 'deleted' by the poster. Any threads for items marked as sold/traded will be closed. They will not be 'deleted' as is often the request. We will see how it all goes, but I guess I might introduce a rule where if there has been no activity on an item for more than 28 days I might close it. Any Fodera's for £49.99 will be bought by the moderation team and collected in person!
18. I am assured that the software for the transition over to a subscribed marketplace is in place. Geoff will be switching it over during Monday morning and so the forum will be offline for a while, so get those bass videos ready to watch or you might not make it until lunchtime!
19. I noticed that for some unfathomable reason a lot of notifications were getting misdirected to the admin email inbox. I have flagged it up and so it's on the list of things to figure out how to fix.
20. Apologies for the lack of notice. Geoff is developing the website to install the software that will change the marketplace to a subscription based advertising area as previously notified. We need to generate money in order to pay guys like Geoff, (who IIRC we pay in arrears) not only to develop the website but to keep it going. So instead of a fully paid and contracted web developer updating the site when it's convenient for us, we have to rely on Geoff doing it whenever he can fit it in between proper paid employment in the assurance of getting paid by us when it's all finished. If we want planned maintenance - we have to pay for it! AFAIK all the software is in place and it will be switched over on Monday - so there will likely be some forum downtime on Monday morning/afternoon. Thanks for bearing with us on this - it's been a difficult road but we're nearly there!
21. A reasonable guide about how to insert pictures is here: - http://basschat.co.u...e-to-your-post/
22. I sometimes refuse to play the right notes in the right order - does that count?
23. I have identified a bug that affects the email notification system. Until we get some funds to install upgrades/updates and pay for a webdev type person to install & fix it's going to stay broken
24.
I think it is a very good idea! What about posts like I've got this lot to sell (list the items and the prices beside it) and none of the items cost more than £50 on their own but cumulatively they do? Where do you stand on that?
Unless of course you list a whole bass for sale in parts but offer to deliver it fully assembled.
