2.
Nope. He's a small operation at the end of the day. There are a number of players that have credited Bernie like Mark King used to, and like Stuart Clayton still does, but nothing official in terms of endorsement... Everyone pays... Lol.
I was on Bernies board a while ago but couldnt go ahead with my builds...... What i cant understand is why the pros or those in a higher profile are not picking up on his basses and using them??
  3.
Looks like it will be being sprayed come the weekend. Bernie had another order yesterday - it looks like Spitfires are order of the season - through necks at that!
Does Bernie have any endorsees??
  4. Should put a price up as per the rules.......
  5.
They really do vary a lot and i do not agree that you can make assumptions about the weight of this particular bass based on the two mid-70s j basses you have had, just because they are around the same year. Any serious buyer would want to know the weight of this specific bass before entertaining buying it.
Or maybe even trying it first??
  6.
Saw this mentioned on another thread yesterday and hadn't even considered it before but it seems like it might be an attractive option. My Washburn Scavenger bass - eyes left - is an extremely fine instrument in many respects but I do find that I am increasingly preferring the active bass sound and tend to use my active basses more often. Instead of constantly searching for the perfect bass, I wonder if I might possibly already have it if I stuck a pre-amp into the Scavenger. Talking specifically about the Scavenger - it has a single split coil a la P-bass with one volume and one tone control, there is no scratchplate and only limited existing routing at the back. It is in genuinely superb condition - a true time warp 'loft find' - so I would be loathed to cut it about very much. All of which makes me think that the East P-Retro might be one to consider - the re-chargeable battery seems like an elegant solution. But there might be other alternatives that people can recommend, too, that wouldn't be too intrusive or damaging - does anyone have any experiences, advice or recommendations - pros/cons of the various types on offer? And, having fitted one, would might I reasonably expect by way of an improvement that couldn't be achieved using, say, my Zoon B2.1u pedal. Thanks in advance.
Hi, I use J Retro, U Retro and P Retro in my basses and would strongly recommend all units as a retro fit especially if you dont want to do any additional and potentially damaging work on the bass..... These units are designed with space constraints in mind, but it really does depend on how much space there is in your bass where the control cavity is as to whether they will fit in the first instance. Dont forget also that the P Retro is the nly unit that comes with its rechargeable battery, the J and U Retro rely on being connected to existibatteries in a compartment. This however will be possible if you have room for an additional battery space in the cavity as mentioned. I would recommend dropping John East an email with your concerns, he's a great chap and is always willing to adapt to the customers needs or at the very least offer an alternative solution. I can take some cs of the cavities in my bass so you can see what space is needed, but the P Retro will drop straight into a P Bass cavity....well at least mine did into my 70's P bass Steve
  7. Fair play..... its all subjective....
  8. A Wal is a Wal, I have two.... I also have two Sei's and they do come close in playability and to a certain degree versatility, but a Wal is pretty unique in its tone and sound variation... Having said that, there is a lot to be said about "a lot in the fingers of a player"
  9. My new ones on page 4........

    blah

Ive played this bass and was surprised how good it actually was. In my opinion the B was good and the tonal range of the instrument was equally good also. You get a lot of bass for vey little money i have to say!!
  11. I have Jerry Rulf's number if you want it and you can call him directly. Steve
  12. Are these the same Antigua P Basses that were recently on ebay??
  13. I have a very mojo'd 78 P bass with a P retro, and i can dial in that sound no problem, even through my EBS. Having said that, my old Ashdown used to deliver a very similar sound....
Har har, thats what an Ashdown sounds like, duno what shite you're playing through
14. Hey Chris, how much is your precision worth??
Mmmmmm I've been looking around, they don't seem to come up much, a good sign!
15. Hi Chris, Have you spoken to John about this as it was up for sale a short while ago..... I went to see Jerry Rulph, the maker of these Superlight bases and they are superb payers, in both tona and realistice representation of sound......I have a clifton myself, but at the moment its a keeper!!
Hi Folks I've cut and pasted a link to a trade/PX thread below. Although a trade/PX would be preferable, I'd also be interested in an outright purchase of the approriate instrument Cheers Chris
16.
Hey guys, been watching this bass for a few days and watching the price drop.....I emailed the guy for some more info on what i thought was a refin but he says is not?! serial no. on neckplate, apparently plays well with no fret wear....Scratch plate looks like a bad fit...is this normal on old fenders? Check out the pics.....Any advice would be appreciated! Dave
I asked the guy for some additional photos of the neck cavity, heel, pots and underside of the scratch plate to determine the authenticity with serials etc..... He refused to dismantle the bass. When i asked how one would know its authenticity prior to bidding, things became really silent..... Make of that what you will.......

    SOLD

Bump for a great bass....... had a play the other day, loads of character, and what a great deal!!
  18. Great tracks, and you you certainly picked the right studio and John in the bargain. You'll not go wrong with John's ability and help thats for sure!!
  19. On my 70'P bass, I only ever slacken off the strings and take off the scratch plate which exposes the truss rod, then I tighten or loosen accordingly. I have never taken the neck off or released the retaining plate or screws to make this adjustment... Final adjustment with regrad to intonation and action have been done whilst all (apart from the strings) are in situ.............
  20. Can anyone tell me the advantages/ disadvantages when comparing Fender Jazz basses that have 3 bolt neck plates with adjusters, with those that have the 4 bolt neck plates? Are there any playability/ setup issues with the 3 bolt system? Steve
  21. Come on you lot, this shouldn't still be here......!!!
  22. Yes, but you will have to negotiate well to get it down to a reasonable price.....
  23. Keep your basses as they will always be the tool of your trade. If you are comfortable and at one with them if you sell them then its unlikely you will find something you are comfortable with for some time.... Amps, well they are always there..... Maybe use your contacts to kick start the next phase of your playing career, get into something that way maybe??
  24. PM'd You
Really Nice Precision for sale. I bought this as original but have since found out that there is some doubt about the pick up so am basing this on the pick up being non original. I therefore bought a 1979 pick up from ebay and proceeded to try and fit it . After messing up the wiring I gave up and thats where we are at. The bass buzzes when switched on but did work before I went to work on it. The only other thing changed was the jack input as the last was looking a bit iffy. So what you have is a 1978 Precision all original except pick up and jack - It will be sold with the 1979 pick up so with a bit of attention to the wiring and fitting the new pick up will be a really nice bass. It really is a player, the action is low, it is not heavy (10lbs by bathroom scales - really surprised at this as it feels less) looks lovely. Bearing in mind all of the above For sale @ £750 with Pick up - does not have a case but I can pack and deliver for £20 (will be very well packed) - paypal will be + fees - not looking for trades and if it doesnt sell for this I will keep it and get it sorted myself so no offers. Comments welcome Many thanks
25.
Onehandclapping, I think if your going to deal like this you need to offer a cash on collection service. Whilst I hate to be a pain in the ass I'm sure you can understand our worry when we hear someone who is new to the forum saying "Yes, please send thousands of pounds to the other side of the world and i'll get it on its way!". If you can do this then best of luck with the sale. In the mean time I would urge buyers to hold off untill we we have a reply Thankyou!
++++1
