  1. Due to lockdown and covid and all the other nonsense that the last few years have brought me, my journey with QC has been a slow burner. It's not getting out to nearly as many gigs as I'd hoped. However, we've bonded and I'm really enjoying the unit. For the most part I have it on a cool laptop /iPad stand and it makes for a brilliant desktop processor. The form factor works for me given the touch screen and rotary foot switches. I know that I can put it straight down on the floor again and away I go. I am still a massive Helix fan and all of the units available are superb. The LT was my "best fit" at the time and it did many gigs with me. QC, for my needs, physically is a better match for me, though I do miss some of the effects, amp sims and functionality of LT. Sometimes I'm a bit frustrated that QC doesn't do something I have become accustomed to. But then QC can do a whole bunch of stuff that Helix couldn't too, so, its about finding what is your best fit - much like players choosing the DAW they like best, or strings, or IEMs! Now, since Gregor is holding an Attitude bass in the thumbnail, I'm off to go listen to that

  8. On a related note, I wonder, in an anonymous poll, how many female members have experienced sexist content on this forum including that dressed up as "banter". I guess we won't know as they've probably just left.

  10. My digital callipers agree with you, I measured 0.87mm!!
  11. The link above still works - but, you should drop a line to @Ashdown Engineering anyway via their website, they'll be able to help for sure.
  12. Ahh, an ole guitarist of mine had a Patrick Eggle, I can't remember the model but it was a wonderful guitar that refused to make a bad sound!
  13. I actually have! He's a good guy, genuine. He's played a million sessions with the very best musicians and with some of the best gear out there. You can't deny that he has a huge amount of gear experience.
  14. Thank you! I've repeated this SO many times! Sponsorship vs Endorsement!
  15. I was going to make a joke about Forty on E, only to discover the song in mind appears to be drop tuned to Eb.. But what is the song? 🧐
  16. Now that is STUNNING!! I'd never really been a fan of the solid finishes, this however is just drool-worthy!!
  17. I am very much enjoying this thread! I am looking forward to seeing it completed. I'm chomping at the bit waiting for my donor bass to arrive. It's in a container somewhere in the middle of the sea right now I guess!
  18. I am just the same - I've long come to accept that I don't know what some of my favourite songs are really about. You just need to know how to focus this skill and use it to your advantage rather than thinking of it as an inadequacy To be honest, it was such a light bulb moment for me when I realised that deep down, before I could play bass, I would be a bassist - if anyone ever asked me to hum a song, it would always be the bass line first!
  19. One of my students has an awesome sounding Jazz bass. I don't actually own a Jazz bass. Now I need a Jazz bass.

If psychologists want to come and study terminal G.A.S, you know where I am... lol

You've come so far, yet your journey has barely begun..... 🙂

They are very nice basses, as said the neck is more of a handful than a usual Jazz, which is nice imo.

      I love my Jazz 😍

  20. (ok, so other than a very short hidden cameo, the band themselves didn't act in the film)
  21. The Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody got a massive slating too. It's almost a sign that it will do well when the critics pan 'em.. 48 industry awards in 2019, Box Office Gross $911 million.

    Modes

Having taught students from the ground up many, many times, we've already covered a huge amount of ground even before we get to Modes. I feel there are necessary steps in progressive learning that should be covered and understood before a beginner dives in to something like Modes. (and no, that's not because learning the Modes is hard, by the way!) More often or not, if a student comes to me to tell me about Modes their misunderstanding has come about because of the lack of theory preparation. The very building blocks, as it were. An elementary example would be "I'm playing Aeolian, because this is the Aeolian pattern on the bass."
  23. A friend of mine went in to hospital for an exploratory examination many years ago. He was slightly perturbed when after laying down on the bed the male doctor arrived with a large tube of KY in hand. It was then he learned that KY wasn't just used for one thing... lol
  24. KY is perfect for the job. A funny story: I ran out of the tube that came with my ear plugs and the cheapest suitable lube online ended up being KY, so I ordered a SMALL tube, the emphasis here being on the word SMALL. So imagine my thoughts when a larger than expected box arrived on my doorstep. The tube is so large that even those at the back of the venue could easily see the KY logo!!
