Thanksf for all the suggestions guys. Have managed to pick up an as new 4.5" wide Richter Springbreak for good money, so hopefully I'm all sorted.

Sold it on as it wasn't grippy enough for me. However, having spoken to Lars at Richter he's going to send some straps to Phil at Bass Gear for me to try out! The quality was certainly there, lovely straps.
I was about to ask about straps wider than 4" - Will need to look in to these too!

That's a really good idea actually. Noted!
Not many controls on that Dood, especially with the high output on your basses I would want to try before you buy.
Exactly the reason for me enquiry! - I think this one has dip switches inside to pull back the input gain - but yes, with my rig, I'd need to try before buy.
Haredst working is debatable and clearly has not direct link to number of shows headlined. The correct headline would be; JLS have headlined more major concerts than any other artists in 2012
Which would still be incorrect - unless the few bands mentioned are the only ones that the 'award people' have ever heard of or listened to from underneath their rock. The headline should more likely be: JLS have headlined a relatively small amount of gigs but win the award for making us the most amount of money in comparison to any other artists in 2012.

Hi all! Well, I've always been a big fan of a technique called 'parallel compression' where one mixes a compressed signal with a dry signal. I love what it does to my bass signal and over all 'feel' of playing. For the uninitiated, it seems like a strange thing to do. Is it not negating the action of the compressor? Well - yes and no. The action of a compressor is to squeeze the dynamic range, limiting the loud attack of notes but at the same time raising the level of lower volume passages (such as a solo or a particular technique such as tapping). What the Parallel blend does is enable those louder dynamics to still come through with the power intended via the dry mix of the signal, but quieter passages to be raised in volume by the compressed signal (once normalised). I've used various rack units and pedals such as the TC C300 and Nova Dynamics which are amazing - but I fancy taking a look at alternatives that don't seem to get a mention over here on BassChat. So, does anyone use the VFE White Horse, Xotic SP Compressor, Walrus Audio Deep Six or Wampler Ego for example? I realise that I can attain the same function using my B3 - but the Xotic SP is tiny and would be rather cool on my board!

I had a good ole rant about this earlier on FB. Here's the cliff notes!! lol
It's an insult to uk musicians who work their arses off. JLS should be ashamed of themselves for accepting the award, that's my beef with them - but more so my anger is directed toward the buffoons who came up with and short listed this award in the first place. It's no wonder the industry is ****ed when this sort of b******t is churned out. It's not helping support what's left of a once thriving music industry that the rest of the world looked to for great talent. You don't even need that today it seems from this news story.
Edited, as it was a bit of a pre-coffee rage first thing this morning!
Ever tried a thumb pick?
I used to use them all the time, but it had to be a certain type, trimmed to size - i forget which. Very handy for switching to tapping, as you'd never drop ir have to put the pick down when switching technique. Though it did get in the way for slappage! Lol

***TRADED*** Spector Euro 4lx Bass - Doug Wimbish
Dood replied to kdubb24's topic in Basses For Sale
I have had the honour of being able to play Doug's two main Spector basses when i had the opportunity to interview him last year. He told me all about the discussions he had with Stuart Spector to make those necks skinny. Boy they are a nice couple of basses - and if this is anything remotely like the originals, that's a great bass! -
Actually, on the box for the Mic it is written 'sEX1' - i dont think it was an accident! I have visions of a SEX Shock Mount being some kind of private sporting pursuit manoeuvre!

Planet Waves do 'Pick Rite' and 'Sure Picks' both with moulded rubber grips and also 'Adjustable Insert Picks' that allow you, as the name suggests, to insert a pick of your choice in to a rubber sleeve. Also, alternative materials and grips such as NylFlex and Delflex plectrums use a 'finish' to grip on to. I have to say that I've been pretty pleased with these. http://www.planetwaves.com/pwPicks.Page?ActiveID=4099

Aria have reintroduced the SB1000 models recently. I reviewed one myself, a SB1000RIB and found it to be a superb instrument, very well built indeed with a super fast neck. The price tag is up in the 'premium instruments' range, but the model we had in to the magazine studio was flawless. I'd expect the CB model to be the same.

Wouldn't things be strange today if every car on the road looked exactly like a Model T Ford still...

Yup, it looks like the bottom of the mic is 18-19mm so it'll be a small clamp. I'll check Studio Spares out. Some of those shock mounts are really expensive! I was thinking of making my own as I have tons of that elastic stuff they use.... Boots sell it - though they prefer to call it 'hair bands'! heh!
I did.....4 hours ago!
I will PM you Rick.
Be careful, apparently you're not allowed to include basses that could be owned by anyone on here, for fear of offending..................
I think everyone knows that isn't the case Rick. Come now, everyone else is moving on, time for you to do the same! ;0)
Lovely, isn't it. I've got one just like it, except that mine now sports a P-Retro and a Nordstrand NP4.
now that's a bass i'd like to hear as well as see!
Sorry, I'm not as well versed in the way Fender works worldwide as you chaps .so please excuse my question. These are currently manufactured in Japan and will be available worldwide eventually ? Or unique to the Japanese market ? Can someone please explain.
I must admit it has been a long time since I have enquired, but as I understand (or rather understood) it, Fender Japan make both 'export' models that are available to europe and the rest of the world and 'non-export' models that are for Japan only. The non-export models are superb and would be in competition with the Fender USA models and thus are 'not allowed' out to us. The export models usually feature cheaper components or are built model specifically that USA don't manufacture, such as the Marcus Miller model. My own CIJ is a PB70US and that was a non-export model - whereas I think the PB70 is an export model. I'm not sure if that naming convention still stands as to the bass availability - but Fender USA were not too happy that rather a large amount of non-export basses found their way on to UK shores a few years ago, a distributor suggested at the time.
I honestly thought you were just trying to spend our way out of the economic crisis I've never been a fan of single-cuts, although they're hugely prevalent amongst the top-end of the market - so I get this dichotomy between these basses which represent the pinnacle of instrument construction... and yet I'll never enjoy, aesthetically. To me, they appear cumbersome and bloated; they seem to want to show off, to be different, to have some pretension. But you learn as much about yourself, when you look outward, as you learn about the object under scrutiny
Quality post! I think my take on Singlecuts is not that they are there to show off or be noticed - I guess if that were the case, the Fender Telecaster, The Gibson Les Paul and the humble acoustic guitar have got a lot to answer for, yet we're so used to seeing them, no one bats an eyelid. Maybe bass players just don't like change?
