5 is directed at wether you feel a bass player specifically from that list has had more of an effect on bass playing in general and thanks to those who have responded!
I found that one a difficult one to answer, because you could go in the direction of 'influential as a musician' or 'influential as a multi-millionaire worldwide bassist with countless fans across the globe'. With todays generation in mind, I went with the latter.
Sometimes, people just misinterpret and overanalyse things a little too much. .... Come on.
They really don't in this thread. You're coming over quite clear. I'll offer my thoughts elsewhere, so case closed for me.
You need to seek help.
NJ, not cool. Your replies haven't really been in the spirit of the BC community. P_B did only ask what your point was after all. How about expanding on your OP rather than derogatory comments? It could be a really interesting discussion if it were articulate and balanced.
You've answered your own question. So I'm not sure what your point is.

The OP expressed a point of view and put it up for discussion. What's wrong with that? Seems fair enough to me.
NJ asked how users of 1x12 cabinets managed "You know who you are".. Those users are either playing in bands that don't need brain cell scorching volumes, or if they do, know how to get a great tone out of kit without the onstage volume onslaught. The kit is chosen for it's job, not how cool it looks? To put it in to perspective, last year I depped with a band and the onstage volume was practically zero, yet the FOH, a modest PA pounded like a beast. Happy audience! Genuinely, a 1x12 cabinet would have drowned out the acoustic sounds on stage if it were indeed 'cranked'. So maybe the point of view about 'how do you manage' is simply down to some bands still relying on lugging truck loads of backline gear round (and mostly unnecessarily*) when technology has allowed us great tones from smaller boxes. High quality PA is cheaper and more accessible and many bands are opting to get a great sound out to their audience through decent full range kit rather than making the backline do the work and all the troubles that can come with it. (too much volume and rubbish onstage mixes ensue) *each to their own of course.

My funeral bass is going to be funding my car repairs this week to get the kids to and from nursery.

Please may I just insert a blatant plug for one of my favourite independent artists. I have hopefully managed to purchase everything he has produced. Seek out David Maxim Micic and the bands he has played in if you like a bit of prog mixed with metal mixed with atmospheric mixed with cinematic mixed with groove mixed with...

Totally agree, I've ended up having some epic chats with folk in strange car parks whilst exchanging bass gear. BassChat is full of some very cool people. Anyone toting local beers gets my vote

Aside from the Bike chain method, are there any alternatives?

If they are the 'vintage type' that I think they are, then there's only really one awesome choice! http://g-gotoh.com/international/product/product-category/res-o-lite The GB640 is a brilliant tuning key and is the 'normal' version of the GBR640 that has the reverse winning action you speak of. They are super lightweight too which is a bonus and the action on them is unlike any tuning key I've owned previously. Slightly more expensive, but so worth it! There's a few outlets online and eBay often throws up a seller doing them for a good price. Dood

I've no idea what to actually call them! Pedal Mounting Kit? I really don't want to use velcro and the pedals aren't likely to be swapped in and out much. Maybe 6 or 7 pedals.

Classic Rock in pubs, is it compulsory?
We avoid all of those like the plague, although we were asked to play Sex On Fire for a function we were booked for. We were going to play it at the end of the set, knowing full well the schedule would probably over-run and we'd be cut short before we played it. It was, and we didn't 😉
Phew! -

If I were a landlord I'd have the equivalent of a 'swear jar'. Any band coming to play at my venue would be fined for playing certain songs on the 'banned list' ha ha! Starting with Sweet Child O' Mine, Living On A Prayer and definitely Sex On Fire, which is a dreadful song -
A crappy video sometimes is made by someone around 54 years old who has no connection with modern technology and records some random playing with a Zoom Q3
Sounded pretty great to me. Your two finger speed is bonkers Great instrument too!
I'm sick & tired of doing gigs with talented musicians in this case a drummer that don't even listen to the songs , They might be able to blag it in a blues type jam but not when you doing covers like , Killers , Stranglers & Yes for flip sake !! grrrr !!....& calm .
I feel your pain and I am so pleased to say that I have found a band who are even more fussy than me about getting things right. I don't like winging it at all!
I liked the Spectracomp, although I did not like 1 pretty key thing..... it was pretty noisy certainly compared to my Keeley. Do others find the same?
The only time I have found it noisy I have to say is when I have cranked the make up gain. Simply because the SC has way more gain on tap than pretty much any other compressor I have ever tried. I think the thing with triple band compression, due to the way it works, it's more transparent than other full-band compressors for example. Thus, if you want the multi band setting to sound squishy, you'd need 'more compression' overall, then maybe push the make-up gain more to get the volume back up again. So, to sum up, for squishy hard compression effects, go for a full band compressor, for invisible 'mastering' of your bass tone, go for subtle triple band compression.
Super excited for this now! Took them long enough to get John to play it!
Love a bit of Karnivool me! Great play through, especially interesting to hear without vocals on this track.
My much loved and well gigged AB I. Currently in the for sale forum in a probably misguided attempt to raise some cash. Every time I play it I think, no I won't sell it after all... https://www.dropbox.com/sc/us4v6rg78diq6e5/AAC2tvg85trpJBplyS22zb_ua
I find myself in the horrible position too. My Dingwall has just gone up for sale too. This time I won't have the choice of withdrawing it.
Such as these..? The word you were looking for is, I believe, 'segue'. A common enough mix-up, but always good for a quick chortle.
If I'm honest, I have no clue. I'm sat here, over tired with baby puke drying on my trousers. I'm not sure even what day it is; I've have been entertaining family and a very demanding youngster for the duration. Frankly, I am surprised I managed to get this far.

Yeah, pretty much agree with everything said so far. It depends on the content of the song. Last year I had three dep gigs together for three different bands with only a few songs that were the same between them. I learned all three sets in a month totalling some 80 odd tunes. What made these songs more difficult to pick up is that one band strung the whole set together via medley versions and interesting musical segways, so not really learning straight from a known source. As a rule, I don't go in with 'nearly right' bass lines ever.
