1.
I think it's just a case of the Guitar being out of tune (for what ever reason). It's not in concert pitch. The Keyboards are in tune at C# (for some reason a semi tone up from the studio recording). The giveaway for me, is the Bass is pumping out C# Quavers along with the Keys. So C# must have been the key decided before hand. But knows or cares...? It's a very, very funny clip.
I was intrigued by the comments on the YouTube video so I grabbed my bass and yeah, the keys are playing C# but Eddie's guitar isn't playing a C even if he was meant to be a semi-tone out by accident. So I agree, something was up with the EVH machines that night. Strangely odd that the choice was made to play the song up a semi-tone anyway, but sometimes that can be an easy choice if a song before or after is in a similar guitar tuning. I've no idea if that case meant to be the case here. Bit cringey throughout, though I think DLR smashing himself in the face with his chrome pole live on US TV is probably up there with memorable VH performances.
 2. For comfort, I'd place it on the 7th fret of the A string position. Either way, yes, to be in the right register it's not down at the bottom of the neck, open E.
 3.
I've got a HD210, sounds great and is a breeze to move around
I guess that would make a cool stack with an HD210!
 4. No, I've withdrawn it (above) after kicking myself for selling the first one. I'm on the look out possibly for another, or an HD212 or a Barefaced BB2 to match the one I have coming. I will edit the title.
 5.
That's cool - it looks purple on the video. I was typing quickly: I didn't really mean bitsa, but more that it looked like it had been specially configured at least. I must have been half asleep as the body looked more P than J. You also did a very good review of the ABZ6 - don't tell me you bought one of those too! I really think the B|Amp is the start of something: I know there's been a kick back against digital (;all analog or it's fake, man! and people who swear they can spot the digital effect from the analog in blind tests), but the sophistication of electronics as applied by people like Bergantino, Source Audio and others means the boundaries for what can be done are limitless.
It's ok, I took no offence or anything like that It certainly has been customised though - and actually you are right, the body is a highly sculpted P bass body. The 'Jazz Bass Special' version doesn't have the extra cutaways, this was reserved for the 'Power' model with active electronics. Really the only Jazz bit is the neck, which I understand, and have no proof, was profiled on a '62 Jazz neck. Certainly wonderfully comfortable and the usual super high quality Japanese workmanship, even now the bass is 30 years old. I guess the inclusion of the J pickup in the bridge position has a bit of a J Bass nod to it. Thank you! I did my best to run away with the ABZ6. I didn't buy that one but yes I have an AB1 and a Combustion in my fleet. One of the downsides of this job is *having to* (ha) be *forced to* play the very best basses the market has to offer, year after year.. Oh well, someone has to do it I suppose!! I have to agree with you regarding the B|Amp. It's bridging the gap between PA with DSP and Bass gear. I like that these options are available but you don't have to use them either. There's no doubt that enabling the Speaker Profiles is a noticeable change to the sound and is a function that works and is useful. There's so much more though. There's an adjustable HPF on board, configurable line out, the afore mentioned parametric EQ, wireless foot controller and tuner. There's three different drives available and even the ability to notch the fan up when you are using a 2 Ohm load to provide a bit of extra cooling when it is needed. Firmware updates future proof the amplifier and via a standard USB stick means it's also very simple to do.
Would it not have been worth sending the pedal back for another in return? If it's just odd units that are affected?
Yup, or just try using the Firmware that fixes the problem, it seems: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/new-firmware-released-for-tc-electronic-spectra-comp.1268962/
 7.
The latest firmware does include some nifty features, including a new bluetooth foot controller for switching between presets, tuner and mute function. I think there's other things it can do too! Thank you, very kind Awwww! My bass! It's not a bitsa! I have a pair of these and this is a bass with a long story behind it, but in short, it is an AMAZING Fender Power Jazz Bass Special from 1989. It started life in Candy Apple Red (the other is in the red still) but after many years it was time for an upgrade. So a jolly nice chap by the name of Mark Ball Of Musical Instrument Rehab decided that given my penchant for flip paint offered up a new coat for my bass. It started off as a bit of an experiment with a different base coat, but it will do a flip paint colour change between a mixture of Pink, Burgundy Mist, Gunmetal Blue and Grey depending on how you spin it in daylight. Like those TVR car paint jobs - although under the studio lights the effect isn't as strong. All other upgrades I did myself. Full set up, new hardware throughout including a Glockenklang 3 Band pre and EMG PJ actives. The Red version is mostly upgraded, but it has a 2 band Glock circuit that I want to change for three at some point. On the subject of Musical Instrument Rehab, I foresee another paint job happening very soon with a jaw dropping flip paint. Keep your eyes peeled! Here's an outside pic on my Instagram of the PJBS looking very pink! 8.
They look very clever and I see on tb that Jim announces new patches/updates every now and then: compression and new cabs etc. Loved the review vid too: dood, what mix of shiny bass bits is the purple machine btw? 9. So, does anyone actually own one still? lol
 10. Tom Bowlus loves them. I respect Tom's opinion on amplifiers and cabinets greatly.
 11.
I'm thinking Geoff Tate and Mike Patton. I know Def Leppard but don't lusten to them. Thank you for your opinion really appreciate it. Hoping to get more views on the song.
Yes! Tate! Exactly what I was thinking!! Bang on Are you planning to expand on the theme? Add more sections etc?
 12. I'd put it in the 'Power Rock' category rather than metal. There's some rock influences in there for sure. Early Def Leppard, a bit of Harris-esque bass and atmosphere from Malmsteen. I can just hear some high pitched soaring vocals in there and you'll be set.
 13.
Coming late to the party, but for others with a G10 an alternative fix could be this... http://www.switchcra...wings/13_cd.pdf http://www.switchcra...ct.aspx?ID=2698 Rather than a TRS arrangement to make a power circuit closed for the bass preamp it has an isolated make circuit separate from the audio circuit. The jack tip locales in a plastic cup and physically pushes the circuit closed. This is the arrangement Wal use for switching on their active circuits.
That's a brilliant idea and a more permanent fix verses my patch lead approach. I like this one! I didn't know Switchcraft made them, thank you!
 14.
They do look appealing Can they be rack mounted? I don't remember seeing any info on that.
I don't think they can Abm, unless i guess the amp was mounted to a rack shelf maybe. I could just imagine a pair of these racked in a 1u format running in stereo/dual mono with some big cabs. It'd be a great sound! (OTT mind, but hey, why not!!)
 15. No one has mentioned Faith yet! The Neptune is a beautiful guitar!
 16. P.S. I bought mine from Bass Direct after I did this review.
 17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHoNNtuOpsc Mine has gigged several times now. I love it's clarity, I love the parametric EQ (The latest updates offer more control over the widths of each bands and extended frequency ranges) - Just a really clean and sweet sounding amplifier. It is an expensive amplifier due to the costs of getting them over here, but I would say that yes, I think it is worth it. The Speaker Profiles I think is a really good step forward for DSP in bass gear (You only have to look at all the threads about FRFR etc). I often don't even need EQ on the amp at all and tweak a bit on my basses.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. THe bl00dy thing isn't holding its toneprint on power down/up cycles ! I've tried updating firmware etc etc. Done everything to the book, but no good. A bit of googling shows this seems to be a still as yet unresolved issue with this pedal for some. bo!!ocks !
I've not heard of this. Is it odd units that do it, as mine seems to be ok. Hmmm!
I've got one of these but haven't delved into the pc editor yet. Is it possible to save and share settings?
It's possible to save settings and also keep them saved in the editor, like saved 'patches' but there is no option to share (yet, who knows what the future holds!)
I just can't keep quiet about this one. I have owned a load of comps over the years, including some highly respected ones like the Empress, the MXR bass comp and the MB COmpressore but this little TC pedal is amazing. Firstly its so tiny, so pedalboard space is very minimal. Secondly, its just so damn powerful and sounds so good. Noise level is incredibly low too. If you haven't read up on it yet, its a 3-band compressor (bass, mids and treble (with user adjustable crossover points)), with every variable adjustable independently, for every band. So ..... level make up gain ratio threshold knee attack release blend and probably something I've forgotten, tweakable for every band !!! There is nothing hardware-wise that can do this. I ummed and ahhed about getting this for a while, being skeptical of a digital thing, especially one that needs accessing via software but it ends up that that is its strength not its weakness. IN all honesty you do need to understand compressors, their variables and how they affect your sound to get anywhere near the best from this. The default loaded tone is IMO horrible, which is a real shame IMO because that is what 90% of people will judge it on. In fact all the downloadable ones from the TC website are very OTT and much more of an "effect" compared to what I look for a compressor to do. I'm looking for something that simply makes notes sound bigger, fatter and sit in the mix with more presence than without. I don't want it to sound obvious that I'm using compression, so I want my attack and the decay of notes to still sound natural, but just "better". This comp does it all ! Its a little limited by its one knob but TBH all the other compressors I've ever owned I've simply set up on one setting and left them there, so in theory I don't really need any external controls. You can link any compressor variable, or variables, to the knob so even that one knob can be incredibly powerful. If you change basses then it would be good to set it up as a general threshold control. I gig with one bass so I have currently set it up with the knob controlling bass frequency level and comp ratio, giving me a range of "tightness" for the bass. Its a great "Boom" control for difficult rooms. I really can't recommend this enough.
Great review and yes I can't recommend it enough either! It is the single best compressor I've ever used, the Hypergravity I suppose would be its equal but I love the smaller form factor. I also agree that the TonePrints get you started, the Editor brings a whole new dimension! I too love to change what parameters the knob adjusts and similarly, my preset I have made sounds like it's doing the same. I have all three bands compressing gently but I have a bias to the low end keeping the attacks suited to each band, then I've blended in the dry signal for a classic 'New York Compression' parallel mix. Simply, brilliant.
 21. £500 WITHOUT Flightcase? Don't forget you are buying both a professional level multi effects processor and PRO MIDI foot controller specifically for this effects unit in one. (Or of course split them and have the processor and all of your pedals safely racked up whilst the pedal board (and a single cable) takes care of patch selection and pedal activation. Need this sold ASAP, offers by PM please. ***Please also note this is the latest version which includes the latest firmware and the IB Mod as standard which other versions (on eBay) do not have, hence the lower price of them. I will be happy to 'deal' if we chat.
 22.
What kinda thing are you looking for??
Trades will include either: Bergantino HD112, Bergantino HD212 or Barefaced BB2 with cash my way. Though i may choose to withdraw or change plans whilst i'm waiting to try out some stuff / emails incoming.
 23.
Very nice. Reminds me of my old Encore- my first 'proper' bass! Except mine had gold hardware. Any tribute to JD deserves applause as far as I'm concerned - monster player.
Thank you indeed! Ive been really pleased with this one tonally. It has a heft and a brightness to it that my other P basses do not.
 24. Thanks guys! I'm certainly intrigued, but where did they all go?? ha ha!!!
