It seems to be a topic that some get their knickers in a twist about, but I see it as another tool, like a plectrum or a drum stick. Mine as you'll see I designed to be adjustable, so if I don't want to use it I can neatly screw it down in to the body. It does also mean I can change it's angle depending on my instrument set up too!
I live a sheltered life, so pray tell; what is the raised bit between the pickups for?
Here's another that I was rather excited to see featuring one of my other Shuker basses as a main image! http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2013/04/03/bass-ramps-the-how-and-why/
Would that be more or less the same as a pair of humbuckers in Jazz bass positions? If so, you've basically got a Thunderbird!
Point well made! Yes, the early ones are dual rail humbuckers. I for some reason never put two and two together! - I will however need to go listen to some Paul Gray now! Loved his TB tone!

My favourite bassists are mainly P players, but when it comes to the two, I can't decide and thus I tend to be a PJ type chap, or at least 'two pickup' basses. There's something about the combination that seems to offer a tightness to the sound that I can't really describe. I think my favourite combination which is going off topic is a pair of dual-rail soapbars. Would that be J Bass on steroids?
If you do end up making a custom TonePrint, Dood, you're gonna have to call it "The Sniffles" now
Ha ha ha ha ha!! Done deal
{snip} but then risk losing your edit because of software glitches on the TC. @Dood has this software glitch been sorted yet? {/snip}
I don't think TC see it as a software glitch, just not something they have added yet. Simply put, the editor can not read the TonePrint you have created on the pedal once you have disconnected and reconnected. So you won't lose your Toneprint. But if you have saved lots of different versions of your TP, you might need to make a note somewhere of the one you have put on the pedal! I do this by adding a number at the end of the reset now so the highest is the one on the pedal. You can select your current TP from your editor saved list in the application with the pedal attached and continue editing though. I hope that makes sense, I am on my death bed today suffering with a major, MAJOR case of the sniffles. I'll ask TC about it when I get a chance.. the TP that is, not the sniffles lol
if you guys fight, will it be fisticuffs or girly slaps.....
It doesn’t matter as long as the delivery is tasteful lol. Seriously though, the problem with any technique, especially one that draws attention is when it is done badly. So as you can imagine, 100 visitors at the bass show all in desperate need to get attention....

Tech 21 VT Bass 500 and TC Electronics K 2-12 Cab
Dood replied to ProjeKtWEREWOLF's topic in Amps and Cabs
The k-cabs are very good for the money! Same drivers in the Laney SL cabinets I believe. Great stuff! -
What do you think is the ideal string gauge to learn on?
Dood replied to XoSo's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'd add another vote to 'it doesn't matter too much' apart from Bluejay's excellent point about Nickel allergies. You're going to need those callouses eventually, so suck it up - they're a badge of honour
I have had students with Nickel allergies and this can make playing an instrument uncomfortable indeed. I would most definitely recommend a really good set up on an instrument too. Again, on the subject of students, I’ve had many come through the door with, for example some old classical guitar that has been dug up out of the attic. Nor surprisingly, most of them play like an old dog. Flat wounds and Round wounds have had a mention. A nice in between string or look at is the half wound otherwise known as ground wound. D’Addario make a nice set of half wound strings that are a nice in between of tone and feel. -
I'm not near my pedal at the moment, but I've created a TP where one knob mixes in chorus, the other mixes in the -1 Oct and the third (Mini) adds drive to the -1 Octave. I'll take a look when I can, but for now, post some screen prints of your TP windows including assignments just in case anything got missed. It should work though!

Looking for a new iPad clamp/bracket/stand. Options?
Dood replied to Dood's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just an update for those who might be looking for similar, I took a chance on the 'next size up' model from the one I had made by VonHaus. Thankfully it paid off and I am sorted with a clamp that doesn't appear to have the weak spots of other models I have looked at. Not bad for 15 quid either! -
There's zero issue with playing a major 6th over a minor chord. It's absolutely normal. Lots more minor scales out there than Natural Minor/Aeolian ;-)
Indeed! As I mentioned earlier. Thing is though, I think in this song it's a case of expectancy. The whole song is in D Major (D, G A etc) and the ear expects the Bm move to be Aeolian. So when the Major 6th comes in only in the bass, it's a note "in between the ones" that have been well trodden in the song. It sounds a little odd. No problem with that as an intention but it does sound out of place when we are SO used to the formulaic bile that can fill the popular music charts
-
Oh wait, hang on! There's the F to Bb/Eb move which is probably the bit that sounds odd then later, a Bb chord at the end of the chorus with Ab in the bass. I'll check when I'm back at my desk later!
-
To my ear, the chorus sounds Mixolydian (F Major with an Eb in there) and there's some cheeky moves in there such as a Bb/Ab chord at the end of the chorus. Will need more time not on iPhone speakers!
Good song, and yes Alan Tarney was prolific around that time, sure he did some work with Sir Cliff.
Oh for sure! You can hear the chord sequence in "We Don't Talk Anymore" is Tarney material.

Maybe Duck fancied a bit of a melodic minor line in there!
Is this at exactly 1m10s?
No, everything is fine at 1.10 - Listen to the note at 1.22

I asked the BC readership where I could find some Dunlop Strap buttons online to buy. Ambient sent me a set he had spare. A kind gesture and a very helpful one as I can gig my bass at the weekend now Thank yoU!
Dood! What are you doing? A refin and then you put it down on the gravelly ground?! Looks bloomin' ace though.
Jon uses something underneath the instruments when he takes pictures of them Thank you, I’ve been playing it again tonight and really missed not having it. It’s a total joy to play.
Interesting that you went for neck face dots.....you actually use them? Si
You’ve seen the size of my new glasses right? Ha ha ha! Actually, for the really fast tapping stuff, yeah it helps!

If it's any help, it could be suggested that the members of staff in the actual shop are just as frustrated over the difficulties with the part of the business they have no control over too.
