1. Ah! You beat me to advertising my Sub'n'Up for sale today ha ha!! Anyway, I'll wait until yours is sold before I pop mine up out of courtesy. These are super great pedals!
  2.
Thank You. Now the GAS is building up. Go on, you know you don't need 2 of them sitting around the house
I'll give it some thought!

  6.
I've a decent pair of Sennheiser HD 600's headphones at home, but I prefer to play along to tracks at the same time. The obvious answer now may be, well why don't you buy a HK set up, but I just wondered what other peeps did to obtain a decent bass sound from their home hifi set ups ( btw, thanks again for all your suggestions on this )......
In your OP I assumed that you also meant 'bass guitar sound', hence my recommendation of some active monitors. I'd assumed that when you were playing along. I run my bass and my music through the same set of speakers (hence the monitors thing, they're built for it after all). So, no need for the HK, but a decent set of studio monitors will reward you the same. If you have HD600's, then you should be getting great results playing along to your songs with those surely! For speakers though, the Adam A7's mentioned earlier are nice!
  7.
You download Waves Central and log on to your Waves account. Once in that, that application then licenses the plugin to your machine and will prompt you to install the plugins into your DAW. Waves Central is the application that controls the installation and licensing of your bought plugins. 9.91 is the latest version of Waves - think of it as Waves Central 9.91... so if you were running Waves Central 8, you couldn't use the plug in.
AhhH!!! That makes lots of sense now Bit like a software iLok.

I have managed to set up my triple band compression, dual signal paths and I've started on my drive routings. I also saw a video of a guy using the Helix to also provide his IEM headphone mix too. That was just too cool!
When you get to the Snapshots you can change the values of those effects at the same time.
I'd been watching one or two YouTube videos and hadn't already grasped what the snapshots were capable of. I've been so busy recently that I've only had the HLT on a handful of times! Very unlike me ha ha!!

Just one thing I really like so far, is that I've set up a 'default chain' of effects in a 'stomp box' manner. I think it's great that there's certain effects in my chain that will be permanently on (the ones that are replacing the amp, eq and compression jobs for example). They don't need to be assigned to a foot switch, leaving me with 8 pedals for the effects I do want to punch in. Further more, I have assigned one or more effects to a single button meaning that I can switch on a whole chain of effects in one go. I've barely touched the surface and I'm really starting to get my head round some, just some, of the features. Next up I need to look at syncing the whole lot with my Helix plug in too!
  11.
Just after shelling out on the SSL pack, I see that Waves have got the G Channel on special offer...! http://www.waves.com...s/ssl-g-channel - Typical!! Highly recommended - the majority of the above is on G Channel.
Am I right in reading that you can't just buy that plug in, you have to have the waves package to house it? - I'm on a small screen at the moment lol!
  12.
Works very well, but took me a bit longer to discover. NY Comp can be used on entire mixes too - with a bit of care.
Indeed yes - great for those Phil Collins drum sounds when micing up the kit! edit*autocorrect
  13. A very swift and easy transaction with Sid - Great communications, thank you!
  14.
Exactly my suggestion as not only can you boost certain frequency areas, the cool trick is using the multi band compression to have say the mid range start to compress when you push it hard, which almost feels a bit like a valve amp So, not specifically using it as a compressor in the traditional sense. So flexible, damn this pedal is good.
Interestingly and slightly related, I learned a trick from session guitarist Keith More many years ago - wow, I must have been about 15 or something. I asked him how he managed to play ridiculous legato passages with very little distortion. He used to run his amps just on break up, rather than full bore distortion, but ran a rack compressor in the effects loop *after* the drive section. The usual compressing effect you'd get from using lots of gain was then taken up by a compressor itself and thus, the signal could be cleaned up for clarity but also to aid in his already nimble playing. It was soon after that I started toying with a dual signal path method myself (yup, even as a teen) which accidentally lead me to using what I now know as 'New York' style parallel compression. So, there ya go! /offtopic
  15.
I use a TC spectracomp as a clean boost which subtly fattens and smoothes out the sound.
Exactly my suggestion as not only can you boost certain frequency areas, the cool trick is using the multi band compression to have say the mid range start to compress when you push it hard, which almost feels a bit like a valve amp So, not specifically using it as a compressor in the traditional sense. 16.
Personally I don't like sub-woofers. IMO they sound artificial.
The problem with Subs is the same in HiFi world as it is in Pro Audio world. Plug any old amp in to any old speaker and it makes a sound, getting it sounding great requires proper set up. I suppose you could say the same of people's amplifier and cabinet choices.. It's mostly guess work and very little accurate testing lol. Get it right and the subs don't sound like an extra sound source but part of 'the whole'.
  17.
Absolutely love them. The difference that stands out the most, following their conversion to custom moulds, is the noise isolation. It makes such a huge difference to their effectiveness and now I have perfect balance in my ears and can hear all of my bandmates and my bass with absolute clarity. The service from the custom iem company was excellent and I'm now a full iem convert. So much so that I just picked up a helix and my aguilar db750 is going up for sale.
Such great news! - I've been setting up my Helix LT today and am looking forward to it getting it's first outing at a gig soon. Like you, I will be using my current IEMs and just the Helix with no backline. All other pedals are staying at home it seems!

  21. p.s. I'll see if I can arrange a review in GI.
  22. I actually don't know the track, but it's the unmistakeable sound of a Dingwall bass and probably an NG2 too. The drive sounds pretty nice. Doug does make some exceedingly good pedals.
  23.
lol what if you get a Ground loop? sorry folks, show's cancelled lol
Ha ha!! It's not just this pedal that requires switch to be in said position, I've seen it on others too. It's necessary for Phantom Power to work
  24.
Exactly this for me. I want a bass with a superb tone stock, then a second that feels and plays the same; Right down to pickup and preamp' choice. Any tonal adjustments I need, I use my pedal board to 'get the tone' appropriate for the track in mind.
It does also mean I have terrible OCD for instruments in pairs.. Two Fender PJ's, Two Fender Precisions, Two Dingwall, Two Shuker basses, Two electric guitars....
  25.
I'd imagine that if it's a 'just in case my main bass fails' backup then something as close to the sound/output of your main bass as possible. That way you can switch with minimal faffing around with settings, especially as you're in a function band where keeping the show going and folk on the dancefloor is a priority.
