As I understand it, it's only a gain boost on the output of the pedal, so all you'd end up doing would be to drop the gain on your amp by 10dB, which would cancel out the volume boost. Which ever way to choose to set it up, I would tend to lean towards the configuration that makes the least amount of background noise. The +10dB button I think is there for people who plug the Para' straight in to a Power Amp.

I found a post on TalkBass where a guy got close with the Zoom B3. Close enough that after tweaking some of the effects, you wouldn't tell the difference in the mix. Sorry I can't remember what I changed though!
Very cool. Mateusz does a good job when it comes to vintage guitars. I bought a bass off him few years back and it was (still is) perfect. Who would be able to distinguish the Fresher and Fernandes from all the Fenders? I think they sound equally good if not better.
Yes I think it was one of his videos that helped in my decision to buy a Matsumoku P. I was lucky in my purchase and I have a 76 P bass that sounds and feels incredible yet cost a small percentage of the 'real thing'.

A swift and easy transaction with Alex. Communications were clear and speedy! Great
Hi dood, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Spoke to my luthier today and unfortunately, the screw holes on these tuners won't match up with the ones I have on my acoustic, so I'm afraid I'll have to pass this time. Cheers Nik
Funny you should mention that actually as I tried to find an equivalent Grover locking tuning key and the angle described wasn't correct for the model I'd found. If it's any help, the Gotoh SG381 is a drop in replacement match and thus the same as these: (Measurements in the link) http://g-gotoh.com/international/product/sg381.html Dropping to £35 delivered.
I called about one today but apparently Bass Direct aren't doing Bergantino anymore and they sold their last one already. Looks like you'd have to order direct from the US.
Maybe Bergantino will be looking for another UK outlet. They know that the brand gets lots of love here for example.
I'm seriously looking at taking a punt on one of these amps but I'm curious what speaker cabs current owners have got it paired with? Obviously it's a good match with Berg cabs but how do others sound?
I've been using mine with a Barefaced BB2 which is a good configuration, but there is something sweet about being able to enable the onboard profiles fro Bergantino's own cabinets, thus I have a pair of HD112 cabinets that as a stack sound fantastic. Bergantino are the only brand I know of that are using the same sort of technology that top brand PA system manufacturers have been employing to match amplifiers and speakers - and it works. The thing is, any cabinet will work. You don't have to be bound by 'the brand'. The profiles can be completely bypassed. It's a great sounding amp, even straight in to the PA as a DI box ha ha!!! I've used the HDn212 and of course the review I did demonstrated the HDN112.

I can't help thinking that the point of the thread, to come up with a more interesting design was missed a bit. Sure, beer bottle 'washers' might work, but pretty they ain't!
I was changing some strap locks over earlier and realised how bland and uninteresting the design of most strap locks are. I mean, the visible part is essentially they are just a piece of metal with a hole in, like a washer. Now I have some old coins somewhere, you know 10p and 50p pieces which would be far more interesting than the plain bit of metal (though too thick). I also have some metal plectrums which would be an improvement. I got to thinking, let's consult with the BC Massive for ideas, many heads being better than one, and all that... So any ideas of ways to improve strap locks with a bit of lateral thinking??
It's interesting you brought this up actually, as I've always found pickups really boring to look at. Leo got it mostly right by putting a chrome cover over them, but maaaaaaan are soap bar pickups uninspiring! /railroad
If anyone's worried, I should point out that I paid the full asking price without quibbling.
My first proper amp was a 3520! I loved it, but sold it like a baffoon to buy guitar gear!
That could be it. I know that if you don't take care to get a good break angle over the nut on a Fender-style bass, particularly on the A string, you can have problems.
Yes, hence the added the A string clamp to pull the string downward. If it vibrates in the slot, it affects the string tone.
Furthermore, I remember watching a science program about Piano design and the 'inventors' of a system managed to make a like for like piano sound more resonant and detailed in tone. I think they used a similar method of bilateral string mounting. I'd have to look that up though!!
I'm looking for the news piece on this, but I ca only find the Barenboim Piano - which I don't think is the piece I recall. I'll look some more.
The break angle over the saddles or nut can make a difference it seems. A higher action, meaning the saddles are much higher means that the string going over the saddle down to where the ball end is mounted, will have a greater force being applied to the top of the saddle. Or to put it another way, the string will be more tightly anchored to the saddle. The same *can* happen for the nut. I have a bass with a string retainer on it. I took the retainer off as I decided to spray it a different colour. With the bass tuned up to standard pitch, there was a noticeable (not massive though) difference to the tone of the open strings. The string being pulled down tightly against the nut made a difference to the tone. Which is annoying as I really don't like string retainers over all strings! Guess I need to find a slotted 'quick release' version!
