1. I may include the foam yet, but I am waiting to find out if I will need it elsewhere. I guess any standard foam would fit - it's easy to buy stuff cut to size these days thankfully.
 2. Look at Supro's Huntington models I,II & III. There's also Italia. The Imola and Maranello Cavo basses are two that spring to mind. How about a Hofner Verythin. Spector's shortscale semi is lovely but expensive. Can't think of anything else obvious. Gretsch Electromatic? I've no idea what the price of these are off the top of my head.
 3.
Thanks Dood, I take it the DAW is what I'm using to edit the tracks after recording, is that also what I need to record in the first place? Sucks that Linux support isn't great, I'm not doing Windows ever again, I wonder if any of the rest of the band have decent pcs.....
That is indeed correct. A good DAW will allow you to easily record and then manipulate your recorded audio including editing and mixing. You will also hear people talk of applets called audio 'plug ins' too. Some DAW applications come with quite an array of plug ins, others not so. These plug ins are very useful and you can buy and install third party offerings to do a whole host of things! A few examples would include effects such as adding echo, reverb or effects to each track individually- you might like some effects on your bass sound. There are plenty of plug ins that can do that including amplifier modelling. Wanna sound like you are plugged in to an SVT? Plug ins also come in the form of Virtual Instruments too that can either be programmed to play sounds for you, such as drums, piano, synth etc, or you can plug in a MIDI controller such as a keyboard and play/record those sounds manually in to your DAW. The list goes on and I've tried to give you a few thoughts in laymans terms.
 4. P.s. - Reaper is available as a free download to try out, but I bought the license within hours as I liked it so much. Many years later, still going strong.
 5.
Secondlly, what kind software do I use to capture the recording live and then process it later?
Sorry, yes DAW: Digital Audio Workstation. (Cubase, Reaper, Pro Tools, Logic Pro and many others are DAWS)
 6. Hey Jack, as far as I am aware - and I am happy to be corrected, Linux isn't so good for DAW capabilities, certainly in comparison to Windows or Mac machines. So, my first suggestion for recording software that will run on both Windows and Mac is Cockos REAPER Which is a blinding application for the money. I have used it for years including some pro-release material. It's a great application that doesn't suck all of your machine resources so will be good for lower power machines - I would however at least suggest a minimum of 8Gb RAM and say an i5 processor (quad core for a Mac). That's pretty much all you'll need, but you will have to install the drivers for the XR18 of course, plug in VIA USB and set up the inputs in the application so that each channel records on to a separate track. Funnily enough that's exactly what we were doing last week with our own XR18, but our laptop this time was running Logic Pro instead. Had I have had the XR here, I would have created you a template to mail over to play with but it's at a different location.
 7. As Dan says, it is indeed the attenuator for setting the level of the tweeter output. I'm not sure where the 50/50 setting is on the SL, I can't remember, but half way round seems logical.
 8.
Look what I found!
On the subject of Sheehan, this is the very crossover he's used for years to carve the lows off his 'high signal path' driven from the P pickup on his basses.
 9. WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!! There's so many reasons to like that. Jon's work is flawless, a real leader, craftsman and luthier with an incredible attention to detail. Walshy, that's a great idea and I can see lots of people drooling over it Congrats!
 10.
Fender made a five WAAAAY before that. Also a six. Both in the 60s.
Production bass with a low B as we know it today.
 11. If only I had the cash, I would have torn your arm off!
Unfortunately I don't have the figures handy and my engineer would probably have to measure the unit. What I did find out is that the Rumble filter isn't really suitable for bass guitar as it was designed to reduce the body resonance of an acoustic guitar when using the SansAmp circuit. Probably around 100 Hz. The "Air" filter raises the cutoff frequency of the speaker sim in the SansAmp circuit to allow more high end for an acoustic instrument. If you want a true HP/LP filter you are better off with our Q\Strip.

Thanks for the quick reply. The Q Strip does look like a cracking pre-amp!
I recently reviewed the Q/Strip in Guitar Interactive and have to say I was very impressed. I would like one for myself. If only we got to keep review kit!!
 13.
I used to own an Overwater Original fretless 5-string bass that was (probably) the first ever 5-string basses made by Overwater, and potentially one of the oldest 5-string (low basses in existence. Having been made in 1983, although I know there are older 5-string basses, I've not come across anyone owns or has owned an older one, so there can't be that many. Before me it was owned and used by Michael Féat who as well as being a member of Streetwalkers (featuring Roger Chapman ex-Family) was a prominent session bassist appearing on numerous well-known albums in the 80s and I was told that if there was any fretless bass on an album he played on there was a good chance it was played on that Overwater.
Nice! I think the first ever production 5 was the Yamaha BB5000 in 1985? So yea I expect there weren't too many about!

 15. I bought this cool case for my band, but now that I am only using IEMs it has become complete overkill! So, here's your chance to grab a superb case (which I have taken the foam out of) for a bit of a bargain! It isn't showing any signs of wear as it only left the house twice from brand new ha ha!!
 16.
wait for it... Charlie Grima the drummer in Wizzard who was on holiday the day they recorded "I wish it could be Christmas everyday"
This could be a winner
 17. I announced becoming an endorser of a company's product after waiting weeks for it's delivery, only to find on the day of arrival, the company dropped the complete product line and the name stamped on my goods. The goods were 'made to fit and thus weren't returnable'. They've never acknowledged my artist position either especially as I was essentially advertising a design they could no longer be seen to be using. So close yet so, so far.
 18. Dennis Gasser once told me to stop looking like Chris Astley. I actually took that as a compliment, as Gasser is awesome and Xentrix were my fave band at the time, not that I actually went out my way to remotely look Chris. Probably spent more time trying to play like Macca (Not Sir Paul)
 19.
Had my Hotrod signed by Jack Bruce....errr that's about it
On the day of setting out to Jack's house to interview him, he had to cancel due to poor health. Very sadly, we never got to make that trip to meet him.
 20. Ok, obscure only: Captain Sensible told me he was going to ask me to join his band. When I asked why he didn't, he said he didn't think I'd want to. David Ellefson has played my Shuker 7 string. Glenn Hughes once asked me for amplifier advice. We once did a better rendition of 'Iron Maiden' that Paul Di'anno, our headline really wasn't happy and got angry with the audience. Who promptly left and joined us in the other bar.
 21. Buy something like the Behringer XR or X mixers. We use the XR18 in our band. It has a built in multichannel interface. job done. We've just spent a day recording live tracks and even just using 16 tracks, the results have been stunning. (But then, I am very lucky to be in a band whose musicians really know their gear and get it right first take, but that's another story!!) The thing is, we turned up with the mixer and a Laptop, recorded the whole band in to Logic! The great thing I suppose is that most of the time we don't need the interface, but it's great knowing that we can just hook up and record at a moments notice without any extra cables. The XR18 also deals with all of our IEM routings too. Life is very easy with it around.
 22.
I didn't like the Lomenzo at all, but I really like my EBS. Even for low drive.
I really like my BSSDD. Really. I like it that much, I'm contemplating adding it to the Helix LT lol..
 23.
Behringer P2 officially announced! http://www.music-gro...ems/P2/p/P0CH4#
A Jaw Dropping copy from Behringer! Wow... http://fischer-amps.de/en/in-ear-monitoring/in-ear-stick-new.html Even the shell mechanism is the same! Well, put it this way, I do own the Fischer and it is an amazing product, but I suspect whatever the price point of this, Behringer's sales will be through the roof having such a huge market share already.
 24.
Jailbreak your ios or wait till a new jailbreak comes out from pangu. Then download it for free. Depends how goody goody you are really. My opinion is apple are greedy gits who deserve it.
I think Ed means OSX, the desktop OS rather than IOS the Mobile one.
