  1. Having an adjustable HPF with a steep curve is also super useful before a compressor, especially full band versions
  2. Oh and on the subject of using an EQ as an HPF, you’d benefit in this case in using a steep curve of 24dB/Oct as 12 can sometimes roll off too much of what you want to keep if the centre frequency is high.
  3. The best option before spending any cash would be to find out if you are sending excessive sub-sonic frequencies to your speakers in the first place. You can do this relatively cheaply either with your computer or smartphone - you may need an audio interface too in some cases. I use a few free apps on my phone and either a Line6 Sonic Port or for other situations, a calibrated FRFR microphone. Something to think about I guess! Also handy for testing the actual frequency response of a whole bunch of devices and components! Tone stacks to pickups, amp to pedals!
  4. @D'Addario UK Andy is not coming out to play! He's been a very naughty boy!
  5. Actually, I see what I was doing wrong. There's no space in his name, so it should be @alexclaber. There ya go.
  6. Ah, yeah, my post above..
  7. I guess you could use the @D'Addario UK guide for Prosteels or NYXL strings He he! - I have to admit though, I've ProSteels on one of my basses and they really seem to suit it, whereas I have Nickels on another. My Power Jazz Bass Specials really love the FlexSteels so I think it'll be a toss up between ProSteels and NYXL for them next when the sets in my drawer have run out.
  8. Hmm, won't tag Alex.
  9. Also to be noted regarding the tweeter control - As I understand it, most attenuators just turn the horn's output up and down, whereas the BB2's dial actually moves some of those high end frequencies toward the woofer as it dials down the horn's output. AmIRite @Alex Claber?
  10. On the subject of drop tuning to C# or C, I recommend this awesome off the peg set: The 120 is perfect for keeping tension in the tuning which also means you get a good fundamental tone too. http://daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&productid=380&sid=cbd76bef-c14f-45bf-82c1-b89cd0b51eab
  11. @D’AddarioUK D’Addario offer a string tension guide that allows you to select the correct gauge of string when tuning down to maintain the tension you enjoy. Check it out here: http://stringtensionpro.com/
  12. The Bergantino B|Amp has an adjustable HPF! It also has a feedback filter for those playing double bass as well as a full parametric 4 band EQ which in itself would allow for low end roll off too.
  13. I think you've pointed out and maybe made me realise I have a problem! Overwhelmed by GAS!! - The mini board did exist for a short while. But it's demise I blame on my local music shop offering Helix LT for interest free credit. Mini board has since been consigned to the To Do list and I haven't used it since. But so far, LT hasn't had a fair share of really being used yet either. Two projects never happened and really it's overkill for my function band.. hmmm... or maybe it isn't, I just need to spend more time with it ha ha!! My mind wanders and thinks, "well instead of a big board and a little board why don't I just settle on one medium sized board instead?" - Which could have been the B3n, Boss MS or of course now HXFX. Deciding between each as there's at least one pedal I will always keep at the start of my chain. Maybe this isn't a post for the effects forum, but I suspect that my inability to be happy with my gear is due to the short lived fix of new toys... I have zero problems with basses. My Go To bass is spot on. Pedals? oh dear me!
  14. I keep coming back and looking at HX. I absolutely know that I haven't spent enough time with LT yet, but I still wonder if the HX would be a better option for my current gigging needs. Or, albeit a rather lavish option, it would make a rather cool mini rig.
  15. I won't be, long story short. So it's a spare in that respect.
  16. @ped , I'm assuming the tickets bought with the BassChat discount are ok to be resold or transferred? If not then I am more than happy with having my advert withdrawn, but there you have it. One electronic ticket for both days of this year's London Bass Guitar Show. Bank Trans and an email address will be required.
  17. Can't argue with that. It's one of the best drives on the market.. and it's a mixer.. and it's a compressor... and it's a.. etc etc
  18. In response to questions, currently this is PICK UP ONLY, payment by Bank Transfer. Thank you.
  19. Nyargh! I was too slow. 2nd dibs please.
  20. I'd be interested to hear about what models weren't performing as expected and hopefully an idea as to who is making the best of the bunch in terms of a workable solution that can deliver real bass. The discussions so far seem to centre around floor monitors made of ABS plastic with either a 12" or 15" driver and some form of DSP on board. Some possibly suggesting massaged output figures? Given how much we spend on basses and backline (heads and cabinets as a combined investment) what's the next step up?
  21. I was heading over armed with links to post this morning but you've done it for me! Awesome!
  22. I think you just answered your own question It's all about adding colour. Pickups, tonewoods, strings, effects, one amplifier choice over another, etc etc. Actually using an accurate cab sim can do a great job of helping to sit in the mix. Take for example the lovely fridge 8x10 with it's big roll off below 50hz (cuts sub frequencies) and the bump in the midrange (adds warmth). If distortion is the order of the day, then the natural top end roll off (no tweeter version) saves hassling with DSP EQ to make it sound nice FOH rather than if you have ever plugged a guitar distortion direct into a PA, a nasty fizzy sound..
  23. I have the Fender rebadged version of one of these (actually I have two) - which do a rather nice job of creating a simple Cab Sim EQ curve. The curve is supposed to be a 4x12 guitar cabinet but the lows are definitely there as well. http://www.hotroxuk.com/mooer-mdi1-micro-di-box.html?utm_source=GoogleBase&utm_medium=organic&gclid=CjwKCAiA15vTBRAHEiwA7Snfc1Hd8vl3nZaSRcNW7irNUFtEB4FkwDtEwNCrrstnbaJ2UZS84ayFDhoCgocQAvD_BwE
  24. This whole thread reads like something I was asking for 20 years ago and we still haven't really got there! The phrase FRFR hadn't made it into everyday use, but still, I had been banging on about a Bass capable combo that acted like a PA with DSP to control its performance. My gigging gear at the time had to be all manner of rack compressors and EQ's in an attempt to create what we are essentially talking about on this thread. Still, we're moving forward and the RCF's and the QSC's of the world are making our life much easier. Interestingly though, last night I took out my Helix and my set of IEMs only. That also works well.
  25. Holy sh**balls!! Nailed!
