Absolutely stunning pickups going spare! Used but by no means abused. These pickups are of the rail/bar type and thus string spacing is of no consequence. That's why I love them. -

Yes! I recall having a long conversation with Dave Meros years ago about recording his bass tone (which is epic by the way) and he said his top tip was to add more drive than you think you need and he talked a bit about the importance of mids too.

Oh yes indeed, what works in an isolated environment (at home for example) is a very different story to what works 'in the mix' either recorded or on stage. I can think of so many examples! You have hit upon one of the best ways to hear the differences by seeking out isolated bass tracks and then to have a go at recreating them. Guitarists should absolutely do the same!

I have two barely used BB2 Generation three cabinets with OFFICIAL Barefaced covers for sale. They are for sale as I would ideally like to purchase the FR versions instead. Ok, looks like only one of those for now, but I need to sell these before I can go anywhere near the FR's. The reason for sale being is that I am loving using my Line 6 Helix for pretty much everything now and it makes sense to go down the FRFR route using an active cabinet rather than extra amplifiers and cables. To be honest, 90% of the time I am using IEMs anyway so these are staying at home in their covers! I have boxes and shipping will of course be extra, to be arranged by yourself. Collection therefore is a much better option and I might be able to deal on selling both at the same time (collected)

Gotta agree here, I put NYXL's on my Shuker 6 string after using up the last of my FlexSteels and slap bass sounded great this weekend.

Indeed it was Lee who put Dingwall on to those smaller frets. Hi sown Lee Sklar Dingwall bass does indeed have Mandolin frets whereas all the other models in the Dingwall range are Banjo sized frets.

Actually just spotted on the website that it is the USB versions that bus power, not the TB versions.. Whilst I am here though, the Clarett is a great, great interface. Mine is use every day and has been used for recording bass on some pro releases. rock solid, dead easy to use and the low latency figures are bonkers good. Love it. I also love the free plug ins that come with the interfaces too including Addictive Keys, which I use every day.

Ooh! - Do I need to change my cable? I am using my existing TB2 cable in to a TB3 adaptor in to the back of my new Mac. Bus Power doesn't seem to work, or are you referring to a USB3 version of Claret?

Thank you so much indeed I also agree that pickups make a huge impact on the tone of an instrument, way more than say, the difference between Ash and Alder as a body wood. So that's a yes from me! Those Yammy's are the rail type ones? I really liked those! Big articulate tone! The Nordstrand rail pickups sound really good too.

I guess I should add that active pickups aren’t ‘high output’ automatically. Passive pickups aren’t low output just because they don’t have batteries. It just happens that EMG pickups are boosted with an internal circuit inside the soap bar. Seymour Duncan’s ASB pickups are actually quite tame an output .. and Dimarzio’s Will Power passive P has a big ‘overwound’ tone and output level.

He he! No, it’s all good! There’s nothing like a good geek out Unfortunately yes it has been tried and tested. The possible solutions just had me moving away from my desired ‘base tone’ so the MS came off my board. Yes I could replace my EMGs.. but I’ve been using them in my basses solidly for about 20 odd years because of their (imho) tonal benefits.. one being a huge output level. Oh and yeah, a small thing with being an EMG Artist now *chuffed!* ok, so why isn’t it an issue? Well, your Nords aren’t active pickups and are likely to have a lower output level in comparison. So you could say that I am in the minority simply because I have that high(er) output than the average bassist. I use that level to drive my... err.. drive pedals! Although you could now argue that it’s less of a requirement if I am plugged directly in to Helix, but EMGs are just superb sounding pickups when set up properly and I don’t wanna change them out.

Or to put it another way, a limitation of the hardware that a Zoom tech said they couldn’t change.

Sadly not as it’s the input to the A/D converters that clips rather than the DSP algorithms. It’s a hardware issue that Zoom know about.
