1. No probs Geoff, if it`s still here you are welcome to it. Jez
2. Stanley tool chest with wheels and a carry handle. I used it for all the pa cables and used to sit my amp on it. Good condition. Collect from Paisley. Jez
3. I saw this picture on Talkbass (forgive me I was bored!). This was from a thread about a guy who has owned the Jazz he`s playing for 40 years. Now I know you can`t see the bass but I just think that it`s a cracking photo. Better than playing a sweaty gig down the dog and duck. Jez
4. To Edward H: Regarding the not too complex line. Just had a look through our set list. There are 53 tunes on it from the 60`s to now and we are strictly a pub band, no functions. That`s a lot of music to learn and perfom to a good standard, good enough that your band gets asked back again. Jez
5. As it says, 20 odd editions of bass guitar mag. From 2006 till now. Must collect, just drop me a pm and we can arrange it. If no one wants em by the end of the week, then to the great recycle bin in the sky they go......... Jez
6. Been to that party before. It usually happens when someone new takes over and as the op states, the new guy bumps people off for his mates/bands he has worked with. Whilst it `s a sh*t*y way to treat people, I try and not get too upset about these things. If you let it get to you, it just eats away. There`s always the next gig to look forward to. Jez
7.
No story, just saw an opportunity for a stupid comment.... sorry!
Boooooo, Boooooo!!! Can you not just make one up? Jez
8.
I've only got two now, one fretted and one fretless, and it's actually quite nice. Amazing how much you can squeeze out of a bass when it's your only choice C
Well said the man in the corner with pair of lovely P`s!! I`ve got 4 at the mo and really I only need 2. One main and a spare for gigs. At one point I had 9 but have come to my senses! The only man with more basses than talent.
9. I call my Fenders......... Fred, because my hero Spike Milligan liked the name Fred. Jez
10. Playing a gig a few weeks ago, I noticed this guy staring at the band. I`m saying to meself, he`s a muso, I can tell by his look. He comes up at the break and says that whilst our choice of tunes are quite good, the drummer is crap and the sound from the pa needs more "mids". Now, I have never met this guy, he doesn`t know me. We know the drummer ain`t that good but he`s a great guy and a mate and most of the time he does ok. Rather politley, he was told where to go The last thing you need is some smarta*s telling you something you already know, especially if you don`t know the guy is. Jez
11.
Oh which tracks should we nominate? "Keep it Greasy"?
Nah! "Baby take your teeth out" would be a good shout. Jez
12. I wouldn`t get too hung up on the theory side (although it`s no bad thing) for a pub covers band. What to do is go on as many band websites as possible and check out the material that seems to be the most popular, then familiarise yourself with it. But I reckon you will need a combo of around 200-300 watts. Don`t depend on a covers band having a big enough pa for you to play through. Hopefully someone in the band will be able to help you out transport wise but for a lot of bands, own transport is a must. Best of luck anyway. Jez
13. That`s amazing that you can keep a bass for 45 years. I usually get rid of em after 45 days! I like the pic from 65. How I wish that our drummer used a kit that size. Jez
14. Thanks for the nice comments guys, all pm`s replied too. Jez
15. A flippin heck this one`s dropped quick type bump! Jez
16. Runs and checks out the new ad I have just posted to see if I am guilty of any of the above!!! Jez Ps It is the best bass I have ever owned/played, lol.
17. At the back end of last year, I got this from Guitarguitar in Glasgow. I kept it for a while then traded it with Barnaclebob for his Status T bass. Whilst the T bass has an awsome sound, I couldn`t get on with the looks, so we traded back again. I have come to the conclusion that I prefer Jazz basses, so I am looking to swap this P for a US jazz, an Ibanez or similar, 4 string only or sell for £570. It`s a 08 new model US P, new style case, new Ernie Ball super slinkys and has schaller straplocks. It`s in great condition, just a few small dings (no wood showing) on the bottom edge of the bass where it would rest on your knee. It is one of the best looking P basses I have seen. Some of the pictures make it more yellowish looking than it is, if that makes sense. I would prefer collection from Paisley just outside Glasgow, but am willing to travel and meet up with someone within a reasonable distance. Not into posting. Any questions, gives a shout. If you require larger or more photos, pm me your e mail address and I`ll send em along. Jez
18. Cheers Doddy, good to hear. Serious Jazz gas...............Again! Jez
19. I have seen a few posts about the P bass Mexican version but has anyone got the Jazz version? Is the active circut any good? I know the score with Fender`s quality control but just wondering if the bass is up too much? Cheers, Jez
20. Wayne Dub Junkie is the man to ask about G&L``s. Jez
21. You have to be carefull when buying the Dead as there are many versions of the Dead. American beauty is, imo, their best album and the most accessable along with Workingmans dead which came out just before. From 67 to 69 they were physcadelic/jazzy/bluesyish. From late 69, they were more like a country rock band. When they came back in 76, they made some right dodgy albums. I really only like the stuff from 70 to 74, especially when they had 1 drummer as opposed to 2. Dicks picks 1 from December 73 and DP12 from June 74 and DP24 from March 74 (the wall of sound test) being my faves. Some fantastic guitar work going on. As Nas states, be warned that when buying form the Dicks picks series of live albums that some of them have bum notes and dodgy vocals. As they used to say, the train frequentley left the track. By the way Nas, I bloody hate dark star and have never listened to a version of it all the way through! And I don`t really care for Phil Lesh as a bass player, far too busy. Jez
22.

Those new Ikea chairs dont look very comfortable. Jez
23. Good of you to start this thread Nas. As "the only deadhead in the village", I need some help to spread the word!! Deadhead joke: What do deadheads say when they run out of weed? What is that goddam awful music! Jez
24. Aye, the Wall of sound did work but as already stated, the cost of building it and the transport and set up cost almost bankrupted the band! They constructed it due to being unhappy with the sound quality that was available with the pa systems that were used at that time.It was devised partly by Stanley Owsley who was best known for producing some of the finest LSD of the 60`s. Says a lot. Amongst deadheads, the year of the wall, 74, (sorry Nas, the first time it was used was at the Cow palace on the 23rd of March 1974 and it was broken up after the farwell gigs in mid October) is regarded as some of their best work. Even though it looks like a super loud system, it wasn`t really. There was other band that were louder, the wall was build for sound quality, so the person at the back of the hall could hear as well as the guy at the front. The band took a break in late 74 and when they resumed touring, they had moved to a much smaller set up which apparently, sounded just as good. The Guild bass was know as "the godfather" and there was very little left of the orignal bass. The pickups were by Alembic and were 2 low impedance trapezoid pickups with external hum canceling coils and one that was a quad pickup (one for each string). Yes I am a deadhead but I`m gettin help for it Jez
