1. If it were me going i'd be making a conscious effort to go see Gary Clarke Jr (a must if you're into blues!), Gogol Bordello, Charles Bradley, J Roddy Walston & The Business and Trombone Shorty. Seems like a pretty diverse festival though bet you could just wonder round and stumble upon something you'd like!
 2. Here's the song with the vocals I'm so gutted i'm not in the country when they play Birmingham!
 3.
To be fair this is not a criticism of 'Pino', he is a great player and deserves all of his success. But, when he has layed down a bass track does anyone put it into dots or does it just stay in his head. In fact are any top flight musicians 'fussy' about transcribing their work accurately, because I would be!
It think it must vary greatly between artists, some do note their lines down and some don't. If you skip to about 3:05 in the video below Billy Sheehan explains what happened when he recorded the bass parts for the winery dogs records. A neat insight and I'd imagine what happened to him happens to a lot of artists out there
 4.
I'm guessing that 'Pino', with his massive talent, can quite confidently 'bluff' his way through any session at the highest level without concerning himself with dots, leaving that to others to worry about. But can you seriously turn up to a studio session with for example David Bowie and not be able to converse with other musicians without a knowledge of 'dots'.
Considering Pino doesn't read music I guess he does "bluff" it, if you hire Pino it's cause you want that Pino sound - his ability to read wouldn't come into it I don't think.
 5. When the riff kicked in I immediately thought of Under the Sky by The Answer, I like it though. Didn't really give the last album much of a listen but I think I'll give this new 'un a go off the back off this song.
 6.
Anyone else done this in their own writing : as time goes on it becomes by definition, harder to find a new tune.
My old guitar player came up with a riff and everyone thought it was brilliant, so we wrote a song with it. He came back the next week and realised he'd inadvertently copied the riff from Jailbird from Primal Scream.. pretty much note for note. Say's he never learnt it and wasn't that much of a Primal Scream fan but the song appeared on a old FIFA football game he used to play as a kid. It was probably the best riff he'd ever "wrote"
 7. This would of been Germany's entry but he backed out as soon as it was announced he'd won the vote for their country. Quite a nice song I think But yeah, for the most part Eurovision is cr*p.
 8.
Might get a tkt for the London one. Bollocks, it's at the hideous Hammersmith Apollo.
I highly recommend you do, regardless of venue. I went to see them at the Glee club in Brum which is a comedy venue so not best suited to this type of stuff but man, they got the place bouncing! Hell, it's worth going just for ML's bass faces!
 9.
Thing is tho where would you fit a guitar in there sound? Stop the octave up bass thing? Then it's not royal blood any more, its a three piece playing standard rock songs, as I'm guessing you would have him just play bass?
But why limit themselves to 2 instruments for the sake of preserving a very one dimensional sound? (IMO of course). I just personally think they've got much more in them than the whole octave, signal split, bi-amping thing ..but what do I know?
 10.
It is very samey, but they do that thing really well, will be interesting to see how they can change it up on a second album
I gotta agree, I think the 2nd album will make or break them. Personally think they should just bite the bullet and get a full time guitar player and/or keys, the extra dynamics will do a world of good for there sound I reckon... much like the synth parts with DFA1979.
 11.
No, it's the other way round I spy with my little eye - either just a mirrorred photo, "because it looked cool in the layout of the website", or they're doing a lefty version too.
Saw a comment on the Talkbass thread saying that the Sire team say a lefty version is coming "very soon". It doesn't specify which models but not to be snuffed at either way!
 12. Are you sure the gig is legit? I've just done a quick search and there's no mention of a Brixton (or any other UK date for that matter) in July anywhere I would trust, It's not even listed on their website which is where it definitely would be listed. "Songkick" and "bandsintown" often throw out phantom gig dates that don't exist.
 13. I use the Bernard Edwards "chucking" method to get more attack if need it, I hate it when I can hear nail noise if I'm playing normally so I religiously keep my nails short-ish... I'm pants with a pick so it's a happy compromise for me
 14. Bruno Mars has tweeted that it is actually Jamareo Artis on bass https://twitter.com/...361978169651200
 15. I'm definitely not hearing any envelope or any other effects on the bass track, just sounds like a clean five string to me. Unless you mean the "do do" bits at the very beginning? That just sounds like backing vocal to me. It's nice that this kinda pop funk is coming back into the charts though, first with Get Lucky and now this!
 16.
There is a London based luthier (can't recall his name of the top of my head) who specialises in pre CBS replicas, who uses hide glue exclusively and vintage trussrods etc (made a replica tele for Wilko Johnson IIRC) who also sticks Fender logos on, as players get him to make high quality replicas so they can retire their genuine vintage instruments from use on the road (for whatever reasons) - is this morally wrong, or just pragmatic and sensible?
Is that Joseph Kaye Guitars? He's definitely built Norman Watt-Roy a bass so possibly the same guy! The thing I like about the relic arguement is that (generally) those opposed to the idea seem to completely undermine the work that goes into producing an old looking instrument... I very much doubt that any builder doing relics professionally simply takes a belt sander to it and it's done in 5 minutes. No doubt it takes a bit of skill to do it nicely and get the feel/sound of an older instrument. The whole argument is nonsense when it boils down to it.. people like different a type of bass to you... big whoop!
 17.
how the hell do you link vids from you tube? ?
You have to remove the 's' from 'https://' in the url... took me a while to figure that out Here's some i'd suggest that fall into the funky catergory!
 18. This gets to me too, though the government is leaving up to the "industry" to govern itself but as you pointed out they're profiting from it so nothing will change and it really is the fans loosing out. Though I did get royal blood tickets recently and there was an explicit warning saying that your name would be printed on the tickets and you wouldn't be let in without some form of ID. Which is some sort of progress, I guess?
 19.
I'd like to see if it if you find it!
Managed to dig it out for you! I think this was the only photo the owner posted (or the only 1 I've seen) but gives you the general idea
 20. I've definitely seen a Jazz bodied Sandberg with a reverse P & MM PU config before, I might have saved the pic of it as I was looking into it myself before I settled on a standard Jazz type. I'll post it if I find it!
 21. I'll definitely be trying before buying, no doubt about it. I just didn't want to travel down to London to find out it's not what it was listed as due to my lack of knowledge etc. More pics will be on the way to me within the next few hours, hopefully it'll play as good as it looks and is the real deal. Thanks to everyone who chipped in!
 22. Thanks guys! I did check that website Chris, seems very similar to me. I've shot the seller an email asking for electronics/pot/neck pocket and date stamp photos so hopefully they'll come within the week!
 23. Sound advice, I'll definitely follow up with the seller! Very much appreciated, thank you!
 24. Evening! I've seen a '72 P (lefty) up for sale and managed to get a few pictures off the seller. As this'll possibly be my first older bass purchase, i'm wondering if there's anything that's stands out as odd to any of you guys. I'm not really that clued up on older basses other than what I've managed to dig up on t'internet but what I've found is as below (it's being sold as all original);

No skunk stripe (only on maple necks I believe?)
F Plate on the neck
Trust rod adjustment at the heel of the neck
Thumb rest below the G string (as opposed to above the E)
Gold outline on the Fender logo
Neck plate is 3XXXXX which seems correct for the period
I'm trying to get pictures sent to me of the pot numbers / neck stamp at the heel but none as yet. Pics below; Some more in my Flickr album (let me know if this links borked for whatever reason!) https://www.flickr.c...57648661455597/ Any help and advice is greatly appreciated as no doubt I've missed something!
