  1. Nice one @Clarky
  2. Indeed - Oliver Postgate was responsible for so many great Children's TV programmes, and they were all done on a very minimal budget I believe his wife knitted all the Clangers! And the "studio" in which it was recorded was an old shed... painted with a tin of paint he "liberated" from the BBC set creating department That piece of intro music is so evocative.... It just took me back, as soon as I heard it Good luck sourcing the music. Cheers
  3. I double-up in one of my bands - switching between playing bass guitar and upright. Not for each & every gig, but from time to time. There are occasions when I haven't done this for a while (depending on which band I'm playing with and other factors) and when I double up again, I really enjoy it! Keep at playing the upright, and keep switching between the two - even if you only play your upright a little... just keep your hand in. You will get used to switching, as long as you keep practicing on both. It just takes a bit of time. I must admit, I don't play my upright half as much as I'd like But that's just due to other issues, like work, family life, much needed DIY around the house etc etc. and for the most part, other bands don't really "need" me to play upright I also like to switch between playing different bass guitars - just so I'm used to playing basses with different string spacing and differing diameter and radii of neck Plus of course, this helps me justify owning way too many! Many years back, I could only afford to own one bass, and whenever I picked up a differing model, I struggled a bit, trying to get used to different necks, different spacing, different action heights, string gauges, controls etc etc I'd say it's definitely good for you, as a player, to be able to switch. But most of all - best of luck with your new venture into the world of upright - you won't look back I would recommend taking both along to a rehearsal one day. Make it a rehearsal that isn't too "pressured" - i.e. one which isn't a vital one just before a gig Start off by playing your usual BG, and then switch to upright, informing your band that you quiet fancy having a "dabble" at upright for a few songs
  4. Definitely no clicking with my EVO1 head. Hopefully, they'll sort it for you asap
  5. Hi there @fangio, Yes, I'm a big fan of the Fender Roadworn series, and that Jazz in Fiesta Red looks lovely I've fitted a KioGon Stacked control wiring loom to mine, and I must admit I like the added ability to tweak the tone of each pickup separately Re the Flea Jazz pickups - having owned both, I must say, I really liked the pickups in the Flea. That said, the Flea has a stacked control plate - which was what made me want to try that on my RW Jazz Let us know what pickup(s) you opt for, and what your findings are
  6. Really nice colour. Looks fab with the Tort plate. And I think that combo works well with the maple board too Happy NBD
  7. Not tried one of these. I did try a Squier version, but couldn't really judge it too well, as the shop I tried it in (in Bristol) hadn't set the bass up very well at all The action was terribly high. In fairness, they said it had just arrived.... I do like the look of this bass - lovely colour & grain I must say. And yes, you're right - Fender seem to be damned for trying to make something "different", while at the same time, damned for making something "un-Fender-like". So it seems they can't win. Wouldn't mind trying one of these myself, to give me something else, with different tonal options. But I must resist - as I've already got too many basses! Happy NBD - enjoy, and let us know what you think once you've played it more and gigged it
  8. I bought myself one of these a couple of months back, and I must say, I'm really pleased with it I bought mine because I need two separately controlled channels, as I often double up, playing bass guitar and swapping over to EUB or acoustic DB I really like the sounds I get from it, and each bass I've put through it and every cab combination I use - I get a decent sound. I'm not sure which amp models the 12 pre-set sounds are based on, but they're a great feature, and there's quite an array of tones & sounds. I just play around until I get the "tone" I'm looking for, which varies depending on which bass I'm playing and which cab(s) I'm using. The only real down-side to the amp IMHO, is that during a typical gig - where it tends to be dark. I can't see which control is which. You can easily see which channel is which, but can't tell which is the "Mid" or "high" control? and hmmm..... is that the "Master" dial, or the Headphone level control? Of course, Over time I'm sure I will just know which is which instinctively. other than that, I really really like this amp. It has been my favourite head, and it helped me get the sound I want for Bass guitar, and / or upright and swapping between the two is simple Happy NAD - let us know what you think after some rehearsals & gigs
  9. Hello from that South Wales DMP I think you might need a 50 Watt amp for your world tour! Welcome to BC
  10. So @Clarky - you get yourself a nice vintage, lightweight bass - to help with your back & shoulders..... Then decide you have to use a big, heavy, shoulder & back-killing-rig to play it though..... lol
  11. My first half decent bass was a Musicmaster, in that colour Looks a nice bass Clarky - enjoy PS. I know how it feels - I am forever having to sell something, as a consequence of having already spent money on something else bass-related
  12. My oh my - it looked fab with the original pickguard - and I did think it would be improved with a Tort replacement.... And it really does look even better than I'd have thought. When I first saw a pic of this model, I wasn't sure about the dark wood neck and headstock But the colour of the body, and especially with that new pickguard, it looks stunning I's so envious! lol

    Storage

Hmmm, looks great But you must have either thrown all your clothes out.... Or thrown them into a pile on the floor... Where your bass stand used to be
  14. Well, that's different. Really nice look to the grain on the surface. Nice colour too
  15. Hello @drabjabb - je suis un Gallios Welcome to BassChat. Nice basses. I like Markbass gear too
  16. Yes, it's a lovely colour - nice
  17. Temporarily dropping the price of this bass to £450. Something else has turned up which is tempting me... If that sells, this bass will go back up to £475. EDIT: Also, I may now consider a couple of trades against this bass MIJ Fender Precision, or Earlier (Chinese) Squier Classic Vibe 70's P bass, or Squier CV Jazz (pref in White)
  18. Sorry, I can't add anything to this, other than I'm now also intrigued! lol I do seem to remember seeing brands that looked like, and were cheaper than DiMarzio's, back in the 80's Hope someone can help
  19. Thinking about it, the OP says he has a P bass with Flats, and another with rounds Surely this is proof that we all need 2 of each type of bass - one strung with flats, one with rounds?
  20. Yes, I well recall that. I've often heard people say "bass strings never break, surely!"But those Rotos definitely used to break all too regularly... I've been a slow convert to Flats, as I never liked the feel of them - much preferring rounds. I also found Flats seemed to be much higher tension, until I discovered TI flats Playing upright also helped me convert to liking Flats, as Upright strings tend to be more akin to them (in many cases) - but don't get me started there, as there are so many variants in upright strings I still don't like flats which are very high tension, and on some basses TI's just don't feel quite right. I've never tried half rounds - perhaps that's another thread again? lol
  21. Cracking basses the Roadworn series. I had one in Sunburst - superb bass that was But they look even better in Fiesta Red GLWTS
  22. Sold - again, that was quick! Thanks BC
  23. Must admit, I really like Pink, and for some reason, especially on a Fender. I had one of the Roadworn Flea Jazz basses, and I liked it - but the Pink was a bit too faded, and not Pink enough for me lol I think you're right - a decent Tort scratch plate will look even better (especially if it's quite a reddy-brown colour) Please don't post any pics when it's fitted though @grayn ...... Because I will want your bass! lol
